View Full Version : Jay Lawrence update

Hi all
Thought I'd better update you all on Jay's condition after his 'wee' crash yesterday. After waiting 10 hours in the Emergency Department we know that Jay's left collarbone is broken, as is his right shoulder. The shoulder is causing him the most discomfort at the moment.
He had surgery this morning to clean and sew up a gaping hole under his left arm where the footpeg stabbed him (we know it was the footpeg because of the lovely pattern it left on entry).
Give Jay or I a text to check how he is feeling if you want to come visit... as you can imagine he's pretty tired and uncomfortable and isn't always up to having visitors. We'll be in Christchurch for most of this week it seems.
Thanks for all the thoughts and well wishes.
Rachelle
PS - Does anyone have a link to news footage of the crash (we hear it was on TV One news) because Jay is keen to see it after hearing people's descriptions. :)

Great to hear that it's all healable. Have been waiting to see some news from an informed source. If the bike isn't too damaged can I borrow it for the CliffHanger? I like the sound of " King Clivoris ". Just until he's back on his wheels you understand.

He was starved for nearly 30 hours because of the impending operation so hospital food tasted pretty amazing when he finally got it. I must admit... in the same 30 hours I'd only eaten three breath-mints I happened to find in the bottom of my handbag, so I was pretty starving too! Kinda just forgot to eat.
Jay is exhausted but in good spirits, considering. I can't print all these well-wishes but will relay them (in general) until he can get on here himself. Although I will have to type for him because he can't do anything. At all. Not even scratch his nose.
I'm fairly gutted that they won't let me stay with him but am also relieved to be in a bed tonight instead of a hospital chair.
Will update again soon.

It was very nasty. I can still see the whole thing in my head in slow motion...although I don't want to.
Once we're back home Jay would be keen for some Welly visitors although you'll have to excuse the state of our house as I suspect I'll be too busy with other things (see my previous post) to do the vacuuming.

Hey, at this stage I'll do anything to make Jay feel better. I don't want to make it sound like it's worse than it is but he is pretty miserable. Especially when it took them so long to realise his other arm was broken and they kept rolling him on to it.

Yeah gotta love hospitals for that aye
When I had my crash on the 250 I went in for my broken arm they keep making me walk around despite the pain my foot was giving me "walk this way sir, if you could please stand here for 3 hours sir"
After xrays they kindly pointed out a few broken bones in my foot and suggested I must not put weight on the foot

jay was riding like a weapon upto and through pothole, most spectators were tuned into him as the commentaters were pointing it out everytime he was heading through here,Jay put on another spectacular show through here too! thems the breaks i guess and good luck with your recovery man.

27th January 2009, 20:40
Just like to say all the best on your recovery Jay, it certainly was a spectacular crash at pothole. The thing that concerned me from where I was spectating at the front straight, was as Jay was laying in agony by the bike, it took what seem like ages before paramedics got to him. Not before a spectator jumped the fence to assist Jay. Well done to that person but you have to wonder what took the officials so long to act.

Thanks mate now I have clear understanding of the situation. not blaming the marshalls. they do a fantastic job.:niceone:
gav
27th January 2009, 23:01
Yeah, sorry if it read that I had a crack at the marshalls, not the case at all, just the area where Jay crashed is a bit exposed and away from any close at hand help. It seems to be one point of the track where access to a fallen rider takes a little longer than you'd like.
Anyway hope Jay makes a speedy recovery, it was a scary looking crash!

Hi all
Have just checked myself out of Chch hospital. Am pretty sore but have some good friends to look after me for the night and a plane to welly booked for tomorrow morning.
Will get home in my own bed and try and regain use of at least one of my arms. Rachelle is typing this for me.
Quick update is... both arms are wankered through smashed bones in bad places and one leg is almost no good at all through bruising and soreness at this point. Also have a ruddy great hole in my armpit... deodourant stings a bit! Will talk to you all in Wellington when I learn how to type again.
Enforced holiday... yay...
Cheers

Bloody lucky you're so young mate. Four to six weeks you'll be champing at the bit.
Have a couple of lazy weeks and enjoy the break.
Then go hard again. Plenty of time to tear up the race track again.
