I've had a few issues with my riding of late and I really needed this weekend to figure out where I'm at:blink:
I've changed tyres since i rode at Wanganui and had Dr Bob do his magic on my rear shock so was hoping for some quality time with my wee 'Onda.
Won't bore ya with the test day, but I had a glorious moment of thinking I'd done a 1:08.4, I couldn't believe it and I'm thinking after my race times it must have been a glitch with the timer.......but I was ecstatic for a fleeting moment:innocent:
Ok Race day.
Bad bad sleep with my heart jumping out of my chest as I had pretty good expectations in F1.
Its not until after qualifying that I finally stop hearing my pulse in my ears. The bike just felt fantastic and I knew I went pretty well.
Pole Position.........................:Punk:
Race 1.
This was a first for me but the nerves had settled knowing my starts had improved. The flag dropped and Paul on the Kwaka 600 got a blinder and I followed him into Turn 1, I sat in 2nd until the middle straight and got him into Higgins........1st place Yay. Lap 2 I look down and my bloody fuel light is on............FARK!!!! Being the lazy prick I am I've never worked out any fuel levels( just throw about that much in ) so I've no idea how far i can go, theres still 6 laps more. I've got a wee gap now so I'm short shifting into 6th where ever I can to save gas, I was shitting myself it'd run out and spent more time looking back than forward:shit:
I manage to maintain a gap and take the win:wari:
I'll just add here that on the Saturday I was asked to lead some mates around and show some lines etc..............well me being the complete child I am, any chance I got ahead enough I'm doing wheelies down the straights, in fact did my best ever standup the length of the middle straight:yes:
We come in and buggar me if the MNZ steward that disqualified Frenchy last year at a race gave me a warning and told me to be good on race day..............I bet Rossi never got told off:shutup:
Race 2.
Not as good a start but am 3rd into T1 behind my first ever race nemesis BJ on the other 42..........he's a good bastard really.
I sit there and have him down the middle straight and nearly got inside Paul going into Higgins, but had to wait for the back straight........job done, plenty of gas........go hard!!
Put head down to seal the deal, push a little too hard on lap 3 coming out of Dunlop and the front lets go in protest but regrips after my biggest front end slide so I settle down a tad.
Another race win, I'm back into the 1:10's.........STOKED!!!!!!!!!!
The front end felt so good with the new Swedish kit I found I was coasting into the apex's when using my old braking markers, so that'll be next times homework to help get into the 9's.
Gotta say I was loving the new Metzeler rubber, and thanks to Ericksen Honda for sorting me out.:Punk:
Was an awesome weekend catching up with the usual bunch of mad fookers and meeting even more like minded crazies.
Am really pumped for Paeroa now...........can't wait:yes:
