Well after my 125 seized on me at ruapuna 9 weeks ago I did a real good number on my wrist. Had to have an operation where the doctors insert some stainless wires to hold it all together. So today was the day I got it all removed, I was fully conscious during the whole procedure. All I had was an injection to numb the skin. See below...

The surgeons hand was shaking a bit, I hope he doesn't do vasectomies
Look forward to seeing you in action again.

No he's an orthopedic specialist, so only bones! It was just done in his rooms at the local hospital, no special precautions taken. A lot more blood came out than I thought, was looking away most of the time though!!

Does it feel weird to have your arm back?

Really weak aye and real restricted movement!

To be honest I am quite happy with the state of it. I have not too bad a grip already and can make a fist. I have maybe 10% wrist movement which is mostly hinderd by the 3 big cuts. When they heal up hopefully I will have enough to ride :)

I love how much effort they have to use to get it out. Bleargh.

Reminds me off getting my wisdom teeth out. I was heavily sedated so couldn't feel anything, but remember the yanking and twisting while they're trying to get leverage on one of the big suckers!

Yes it was very similar to pulling teeth. I was slightly anxious when I saw he was using a pair of long nose pliers that are just run of the mill from mitre 10 or some such. Would quite happily have been knocked out for it.

When I did the break and the manipulated the bones back into place (I broke it in 6 places) it was really uncomfortable. I could feel all the bones crunching around but didn't hurt at all. One thing that is very vivid was that they had the radio on in the background, Iron Maiden - Run to the hills, a song that will always bring back those memories!

Eww I had the mini version of that taking a couple pins out when I did my scaphoid in the wrist.

Same deal, at the specialists practice he just says oh we'll just whip them out now in the nurses room out the back. Whaa?? Made sure I looked the other way, wishing I hadn't just chowed some MC'd. Quite glad I didn't get a video myself looking at that.

He could only pull one of mine under local, second one was too far in (despite his tugging attempts with those bloody pliers  ) so I got knocked out for the last. :sweatdrop

Oh mate I couldn't watch that, had some stitches put in last week & suggested they had a mirror on the roof, but it's weirder when it's someone else.

Hope the hand gets back to full mobility dude.

Its well on its way, just been at physio and have approx 15 degrees one way and about 70 the other. Need to get that 15 to about 30 and I'll be sweet to ride at Manfeild. Might see ya there??
