I went around Dunedin trying to find an L plate a few weeks back and got told nobody stocks the damn things. 6 different places.
I ended up printing one off the net ( and colouring the L black ) and cello taping the thing to a piece of plastic and screwing it underneath my license plate.
However I should have laminated it as the cellotape is leaking and the ink is running:Oops: Thank you Dunedin weather!
Does ANYONE have an L plate I could procure that actually is alright or know to get one?

One of the $2 shop ones. Holepunch 2 holes through it & attach somehow, depending on bike.

Post shops, Whitcoulls or Pak'N Save have them as well generally...not sure about for Dunedin though.
Good luck.

Surprising is'nt it?! I went to all the shops at westgate in auckland and could'nt find one, including the AA- I needed it to sit my restricted at the time, so I did the same and taped it to my bag, the tester just laughed and said it was "certainly visible enough!", lol, screwed it up 20 mins later.....
Funny though is'nt it? I thought they would have been easy to source but apparently not....

I just got a set of those plastic ones that have velcro-pads and are supposed to sit in the window of a car from the AA. Got a Screw and stuck a hole in it, then used the bolt that holds my number plate on to keep it there...so far, so good...

Have you tried your local AA they should have them seeing that they are the 1's who have all the info you need to get your licence and are a licencing agent. Also try your local Service stations. Goodluck I am sure you will find 1 eventually.

not necessarily. i travelled a good 20-30thousand k on my l plate, travelling at all speeds. i got seen by heaps of cops, including one who overtook while i was travelling at 100k and never got pulled up once. and yes, l plate was visible the entire time.

Your avatar with the malamute is seriously cool, I can kinda imagine one riding a bike at full speed chasing tabbys into trees

The AA L Plates are great :) They are very flimsey and go well bolted onto the rego plate of the bike

She's not a malamute, she's a Sibe-Bord (Siberian Husky/Border Collie cross). And yes, if she could ride a motorcycle, she would definitely chase cats ...and bunnies, and birds, and hot air balloons....

Got mine from AA, but PakNSave had them at half the price.
Fix them to your bike? crikey, I thought you just had to stuff it in the inside pocket of your jacket. Just in case your fixed one "blows off".
Maybe there should be a place the recycles the damn things, you only have them for 6 months and in most cases you have to buy them in pairs.

Just got mine from the AA. They only sold them in pairs though, for cars. Although at $10, I just brought the pair and gave the other one to a mate =)

My daughter is about to start riding- someone told her she needs front and back L plates on a bike- I'm pretty sure they are wrong, but just want to make sure. Rear L plate only, right?

Yup rear only. Front and back is a UK thing.

That's strange.
I see them everwhere in Wellington. Even at the local BP next to the practice scratchy test.

Thanks- guess someone gave her bad advice. Rear only was what I thought, too (got my licence pre L-plate days..).

I got mine from the 2 dollar shop. I got 2x for 2.50. They have double sided sticky tape on em, which is good and very very adhesive. It has stayed on sofar, and I'm doin expressway commute.
