Well the Southland Bikers Social group has got a few of us together and Summer is just around the corner (I feel it in my bones!). Looks worthwhile to head out for a ride on Sunday 1st February - who else is keen?
Options for the ride are as follows:
1/ "Go West" Invercargill - Riverton - Tuatapere - Manapouri - Te Anau - Otautau - Invercargill. (or a variation on that theme through the back roads)
2/ "Go East" Invercargill - Gorge road - Fortrose - Tokanui - Papatowai - Owaka - Balclutha - Clinton - Mataura - Hedgehope - Invercargill.
Whaddya think?
If you have another idea I'm all ears - just click the "I have a cunning plan" option...I have also made the poll public so if someone from Waikato f'rinstance posts an opinion we can take it out later :Pokey:

Okay, I'll start the ball rolling!
Seeing as how I'm not actually in Invers I would say "Go East", purely from a selfish point of view. You fullas could pick me up on the way through.
You do realise it's the Woodstock Rally weekend?
Might even have the jug on.

I rarely get a pass for more'n three hours at a time so rallies are out anyway for me. If no one else turns up I'll go myself. Couple of conversations offline have hinted that 1st Feb would be a good day for a run though.

You will never own a half decent house in Auckland...
And Nz Min wage is still Min wages in Invercargill....So wouldnt most people better off down there ? ?

I was thinking about 11:00am..early enough to get out and late enough to be respectable for a Sunday.

Hi there McJim. You were travelling in front of my family the other day apparently! The kids recognised the number plate.
I'd be keen for the Caitlins trip, this time without a pack on my back and tent strapped to the bike, might be quite nice.
Either way, weather/wind permitting, would be nice to get out.

Were they in a people carrier between Wyndham and Fortrose? Or was it around Invercargill town?

I'm up for a ride either Saturday or Sunday - weather depending. The Antarctic Angels used to meet outside the Post Office (now the Quest building) on Dee Street so that could be the easiest spot for everyone. Patched up of course.
Morning is best because our weather usually deteriorates in the afternoon. 10:30am too early?
My only reservation is that going through the Catlins might be a bit too far for some if they just want a short ride. Anyone thinking that, could turn off near Waikawa and head for Mokoreta, Wyndham etc after we'd had a stop and a chat.
Apart from that I'm interested in finding a circuit outside Invercargill which would be fun for an hours ride. Plenty of roads here but lots of straights. We need some corners and a good road surface. The Old Dunedin Road from Dacre is one to explore http://maps.google.co.nz/maps?hl=en&tab=wl Must be others too. Any suggestions?

There's about 20km of gravel through the Waikawa Valley and back towards Mokoreta. Some might not like that.

I've arranged with some other riders (not on KB) to meet up too.
Basically I'll be at BP on the corner of Racecourse Road and Tay Street - diagonally opposite the cemetry on SH1 at 11:00am on Sunday 1st Feb. Weather permitting we'll head out East since that was the option attracting the most REAL votes :Pokey:
to summarise for those that don't like wordy posts.

Sounds good to me. Family were on their way to Bluff, you turned off towards Tiwaii.
Sunday sounds good, respectable time. Short cut through gravel could be fun! See how we go.

Not if you are a former Antarctic Angel, patched up, and waiting outside the CPO on your Bonnie......
Otherwise - YES. :Punk:

Go to settings in your Profile and you can have 20 or 40 posts on the one page. Think I have 40. For me, most threads only go to two pages.

Alternatively if you have as many people on ignore as I have then the threads can be pretty short too!

Didn't sort itself out enough for me! I think I may have to toughen up to this Southern weather or I'm never going to get out. Tried texting you McJim to let you know I wasn't coming. Did you get it? Hope you all had a nice ride. Has chickadee still got her bike?

Aha - you will have sent a text to the Newspaper Sales & Marketing manager at the Southland Times! I have sent a friendship request to you - accept that and you will get to see all my contact details.
It was a good ride - a bit blowy on the more exposed sections but enjoyable for all that. Good to meet you all. We should sort some regular rides out.

It was good to see you all and meet some new faces.
Unfortunately, in my rush to get ready to come with you I forgot my wallet, hence couldn't get petrol in 'clutha, so had to come home via the shortcut, (being prepared for sealing).
Good ride, but.

Most enjoyable and interesting. Four Ducatis, two Yamahas (for a while) and two Hondas. It was a good trip even if the team did inadvertently split near Kaka Point  and the cup of coffee with Daffyd was much appreciated. Thanks to McJim, Mrmoveitnz, Sparky.Scott, LDB and daughter, and Honda VTX.
Maybe see some of you at the Vincent Rally.

I bet he/she is wondering who you were going to meet!! Te he.
Speaking of Vincent, is there anyone I can follow up on Friday? Prefer to go direct rather than via Milton as I see Dafyd maybe going.

Ok ok I'l just move to the other pc. Will load them here and on the group page.
Clair - I'll be leaving from Arrowtown so can't help but just head up there. The site is about 5km north of Alexandra, to your right. Signposted. Popular rally and you'll enjoy it. Take some spare food - last year the queues for food were diabolical. I'll pm my cell number.

Well we are going via Milton Roxbourgh Alex, and plain on leaving Dunedin around midday (ish) but since you don't want to go that way

Still deciding which way to head up. Think I'll just get on the bike on Friday and go! Got a wee cooker this time. Something extra for each rally so far. Will have to stop before I need a trailer! Will watch out for Daffyd around Roxburgh. Anyone else who knows me, give me a shout or wave. Otherwise see you all there.:2thumbsup

Had a terrible time trying to upload, Murphys Law was very active. One image changed file type to .bmp when I edited it, then that image disappeared, KB refused to upload any images, then the server went down, then I discovered that one image was 14MB :crybaby:
Some likely lads and a lass.......
Dang can't even get the embedding right. :angry2:
