Hey guys

As many of you will know the third round of the national series didn’t quite go as we planned last weekend. I am not going to do a full race report, like usual, because I have to dictate this to Rachelle.

During the second race at Ruapuna I was fourth and chasing very hard for third. I had passed Sam Smith the previous lap and was having the best race of the season to date, was pushing hard trying to reduce the gap to Dennis Charlett in third place. I was aware that Sam was still close behind me and wanted to put some distance between us too. I made a mistake on the fastest corner of the track (pot-hole) and was high-sided in front of the bike at the top of third gear. The bike chased me through the gravel and ran me over. I have sustained only two broken bones but both of these injuries have been described as shattered or ‘mushed’ by doctors examining the xrays. They also relate to both shoulders, meaning I have little to no use of either arm for the next month or two. Life with no arms is already frustrating on just day three (for Rachelle and I). I have a six-inch deep and two-inch diameter hole in my armpit where the footpeg pierced as the bike ran over me.

I have discharged myself from Christchurch Hospital and am flying home to Wellington tomorrow with the intent of healing properly before taking to a bike again.

Thank you for all of your support, but unless a miracle occurs, that will be the end of the 2009 National series for us. :(

Cheers
Jay

Jay, glad you are able to mend you wild man! Hope you can make it to the Peter Goddard seminar re suspension setup and tyre interaction. Looks like those Continentals are making really good inroads, even with your peculiar style and setup!

Again, get well soon dude. I feel very sorry for you, unfortunately, you will get used to very long hours in hospital waiting rooms.

Although not as important as you, I hope the bike isn't too bad. Broken bones suck more than a broken bike, but broken bikes still really suck!

OUCH!!
Sounds nasty man.
Just dont rush to recovery dude. Sometimes it does pay to take it easy. Its hard I know, but well worth it in the end. And your body will thankyou for it in the future.
Good luck for a fast recovery.

Mate, no use of either arm, if Rach is prepared to wipe your stinkin arse, MARRY THAT GIRL!!!

You can come watch the war pig go back together, PROPERLY, with all this time on your hands, so the next guy to buy an old bike off you, isn't more tempted to assasanate you.

Heal up quick bro, see ya when you get back to Wellywood.

He doesn't need to marry me... I'd settle for just a hug right now. Looks like it will be a while before I get one. :(

I feel for you man, BOTH arms! sheesh! Don't rush back to the bike, aching joints for the next 40 years may not be worth it. Hope your recovery goes well.

It is you! I can't believe it.

Jay I watched in awe for three days, each time you came into turn 1 at the end of the main straight sideways, I ain't seen that before!

By day two I made sure I had my video camera. I've never seen a bike drift into a corner like that consistently over any meet with my own eyes, apart from them motards boys.
It bit you once, I saw that, but by the next lap you fought back and hammered it even harder, that's skill right their!

You started off the meet just drifting the rear, the other bloke I was with on flag with was impressed as well, hey it's not everyday you get to see stuff like that, it impressed the hell out of me.

What we did notice was your exit speed though, man you were on the gas and away from there like a bat out of hell heading for castrol, watching others follow you through that corner was interesting, seeing you get the jump on them most of the time too and ever so slightly the distance got greater. Hats off to you dude, that's some impressive stuff!

But wait there's more....
By the end of day 2 you had the whole god dam bike drifting into turn 1 on some laps (no shit folks), fark me I couldn't believe it!
You were going that god dam fast the vid footage I got is crap, I just couldn't keep up!

We gave the TV crew by us the heads up, hell I hope he managed to get a good shot.

Big ups to you Jay, u rock dude! I hope like hell you get back on the track soon.

Fuck Jay, gutted. Never mind the National's, Drew's gonna be unbearable if he wins the Cliffhanger this year. You can't hold a beer, can't ride a bike and you can't have a wank.

Does life get any worse?

Thanks for all the support guys. Sorry I won't be there to entertain you in the last two rounds. Since all the enquiries have been about the bike, not my health ;) it was ready to go again after five minutes... I protected it well as it rode me into the gravel.

Hey jay, all the best for your recovery mate. And hey - not to worry, 'mushed' and 'shattered'... just loose terms! (Mind you I was a bit worried too when the specialist cranked his head to the side and said 'oh f**k' when first examining Jases x-rays... I was hoping more for a 'well thats an easy fix...') Two broken legs was bad enough, but I think both arms outa action is definately worse! Hang in there Rachelle I feel for ya!

Thanks. Jay is recovering quite well (and hasn't had his arm amputated as the rumour apparently was). Soon he'll be good enough not to need a babysitter and I'll be able to go back to work. This is a huge relief as we're getting pretty sick of each other. :)

Great news to her that Jay wont be having his arm amputated as that would have been devastating for him to accept. I was hoping to catch up with you Jay at the Nationals as I got told you were there but never set eyes on you so wasn't too sure where abouts you were. I hope you enjoyed the racing even thou we all know you would have loved to have been out there more than spectating. Hope all is going well with you and your recovery and I hope to catch up with you soon for a chat. Takecare and cheers for now. Skip.

Just to clarify... there was never any danger of Jay losing his arm. We were approached by a couple of people at Manfeild who were surprised to see us there given that Jay (apparently) had his arm amputated. We're not sure where that story started but it seems to have been plucked from thin air.

Jay has a couple of broken bones, but all limbs are still attached. The only danger he's facing is that a shoulder joint may have to be replaced.

Thanks again for all your thoughts and well wishes.

Amazing how stupid rumours like that start up especially when they aren't even close to being true. I guess if you believe everything you hear then some people would believe anything that was said to them.
I hope Jay enjoyed his day at Manfeild even thou we all know where he would have preferred to have been whilst there, and I hope his healing process is going well.

Someone told me that they were going to reattach his severed head back on a slight angle to give him a better sight angle for backing it in to a corner when hes all better. Are you telling me its all made up ???? :dodge:

I also got told that Andrew is selling the bike !! :(
I hope a new ones on the horizon.

Get well soon Jay , enjoy the pies while you can mate
