It's moments like these you need minties......
Top notch effort from that cop to not be curled over in a heap on the ground laughing his head off - I would have been incapable of anything seeing that in person, i'd be on the ground crying!!!!

Lamp post spoils cuffed prisoners' dash for freedom
It was less than a great escape.
Two prisoners who fled a courthouse handcuffed together foiled their own getaway when they ran around opposite sides of a light pole, slammed into each other and fell to the ground.
Jailers nabbed them as they struggled to their feet.
Their escapade on Wednesday was captured by a CCTV camera at Hastings District Court. (http://www.nzherald.co.nz/nz/news/video.cfm?c_id=1&gal_objectid=10554248&gallery_id=104286)
The footage shows the two men trying to make a break for it - but apparently forgetting they were joined at the wrist.
Hastings police Senior Sergeant Dave Greig said one inmate, Regan Reti, 20, had just been sent to prison for more than two years after being convicted of assault.
The other inmate, Tiranara White, 21, was in custody for allegedly stealing a car and violating parole.
"As they were being led from the Hastings police cells ... they made a bolt for freedom," Mr Greig said.
"They fell over and were sprayed with pepper spray. But they got up and ran out of the court on to the street, across the road to a carpark. That's where they met the pole - it was all over, Rover".
The pair were back in court yesterday, facing fresh charges of escaping from custody.
Police said Reti, who pleaded guilty to the charge, had a month added to his prison term. White did not enter a plea. He will remain in police custody while a psychiatric evaluation is carried out.
Footage of the event shown on One News was billed as "one of the worst escape attempts ever seen".

He will remain in police custody while a psychiatric evaluation is carried out.
Presumably this evaluation will be to check whether he has ANY brain at all in there.....? :weird:

Only a month added to his 2 year prison term!
Worth attempting a runner then if that's the only deterent.

Much like the guys who escaped from Mt Eden prison about a year ago. By tying sheets together and climbing out the window.
One could be excused for thinking that possibility may have crossed the prison gaurds minds at some point.
Next escape will be a file in a cake, bet ya.

Prison's gotta be the best place for them I reckon. With shining brains like that I don't much fancy their chances in the real world.

Nah, I am pretty sure that would just result in additional expenses as the prison system pays for a new tooth for Mr. Convict.

Sadly, with human rights and all, this episode could spell the end of handcuffs for prisoners as they could serously hurt their little handy-wands!

Haahaha, saw it on the news - in fact I thought the clip was showing it on a pommy news channel. Reminded me of the time Clive whatshisname (Clive James i think) showed a clip from NZ Crimewatch about a stolen Mk 1 cortina (and gave us absolute a**eholes over it. Really made us look like a bit of an international joke, just like those plonkers.
p.s. the Benny Hill theme music is called "Yakkety Sax", cool piece to play!
