Yesterday I left work early to go to a job interview. When I went out to my bike the back tyre was flat. :( I rode carefully to the nearest petrol station (in Wairau Road, Glenfield) but as soon as I put air in I could hear it hissing out again! I went inside the station to use the phone book so I could call and explain to the interviewer why I couldn't get there (interview was downtown.) By now I was feeling a bit hot & flustered and not sure what to do next.

There were two customers waiting at the counter in the petrol station, one of whom asked me if I'd managed to pump up my tyre ok. I explained about the puncture. The lovely man then offered to deliver me and my bike to Cycle Treads! He was a biker, but he was in his work van. By the time I had finished making my phone call, he had already loaded my bike into his van and was tying it down! :sunny:

What a wonderful outcome. Instead of being stranded with a flat tyre, I enjoyed the company of a very pleasant and helpful man, and was delivered right to the door. He even pushed the bike up the ramp for me! :D

Ladies please note: chivalry is alive and well and driving a white van in Glenfield!

I just love to read stories with a happy ending.

PS>Good luck with the interview when you finally get there.

Got to hear you got looked after
Note: When a wire spoked wheel has a puncture, it is the inner tube that has gone flat. Riding on that will tear the valve, because the tyre moves on the rim and drags the tube with it. Except for the valve, of course.

Thanks MIXONE. The interviewer was off work on Friday so I said I'll call him tomorrow to reschedule. It's actually contract work rather than an actual 'job' but it's a contract I really, really want! And it kind of involves motorbikes (in a slightly obscure round-about way). I'll let you know how it goes.

Nah, I'd already had a long screw that day so I wasn't interested.

The one in my tyre of course! What were you thinking?! :eek5:

Aha. Thanks for that tip, MSTRS. I was more afraid of wrecking the actual tyre. The replacement tube cost $25 + $15 labour so it wasn't too bad - a new tyre would have cost a lot more. I suppose I should have sat tight at work and called a towie? Although that would probably have cost as much as a new tyre! :pinch:

Ha, yes I thought it was quite ironic. White vans are usually out to kill me, but this time my knight in shining armour was driving one! :D
