American Honda has announced in an official press release that Honda Red Bull Racing rider Ben Townley¹s return to competition will be delayed due to rehabilitation complications.

This come after New Zealand's HH Media reported that Townley would take a two year break from racing to work on recovering from his injuries. Townley vermenttly attaced the news scoop on the Transword MX website the following day saying, “There’s a guy out there who started posting releases all over the Internet, and has everyone up in arms. I can’t believe that idiot did that without even verifying anything with me, and it is all ridiculously premature."
“I will say that among the misinformation in what he wrote there is a bit of truth,” added Townley. “I have been struggling to regain full fitness following my injuries and I will need to take some time off, but I will issue an official press release in one or two days’ time, and only then will it be official. I need to work out some details with some sponsors first.” Honda Red Bull Racing team manager Erik Kehoe stated, “Ben has been training on his CRF450R for about a month and continues to have difficulty with his shoulder. He is working with Red Bull’s elite athlete training staff and will be meeting with several shoulder specialists to identify the cause of the problem and choose the best course of action to expedite his recovery. Our goal is to make sure he is 100 percent before he returns to racing.”
