Hi guys,
can I get some advice on the Suzuki repairers in Auckland City, It seems to me that Colemans Suzuki seem to have a monopoly in central, has anyone had any good/bad experiences with these guys. Id love to hear some previous customers comments.

Also are there any other repairers people have had good service from?

At the moment I have to wait 2 weeks to get my bike looked, Is this normal?

Cheers

Instead of opennig a new thread I just hijacked my own dead one :)

Colemans are good. You can trust their workshop guys. Plenty of others here will chime in to the same effect, I'm sure.

Two weeks wait for a booking is about normal, particularly in summer.

Mt Eden Motorcycles is the other place of repute for spanering in and around central Auckland.

I can vouch for their speedy emails, and reliability with sending parts via courier. Been in once and was impressed considering it's size.

Bought my first bike from Colemans 26 years ago and used their service department on numerous occasions. Never had a problem. There are other Suzuki shops in Auckland but I can't really vouch for them.

These days 2 weeks seems standard. They seem to be pretty busy these days. Thats got to be a fair indication of their reputation.

Im glad Colemans come across as good.

I dropped my bike off on sat, wont get it back until this weekend (they cant see it till Fri) hoping that it doesnt come to too much (ive been quoted worst case scenario $700 or $800)

They seem pretty smart when I went in and asked about helmets. I never would have guessed that helmets should be replaced after 4-5 years. apparently due to sun damage?

Don't tell my Mrs that. I told her I'll get years out of a $1600 Aria.

From what I've been told, yeh it's about right. If used every day around 5yrs. If only used weekends and when not in use stored in it's nice little bag, a little longer.

Now you mention it though.... I heard that from a salesman as well.

Yes, over time, the plastic shell will fatigue and the foam will lose its elasticity. Give it long enough and you might as well just be riding in a beanie, which is why you should replace your helmet at the manufacturer-recommended intervals, regardless of whether you've taken it down the road yet or not.

Obviously you should replace it immediately if you crash it. Ahem. Like we all do...

Mirrored visors are ghey.

Also, they start looking pants pretty quick when the coating gets chipped off. Just buy a plain old tinted visor for daytime riding, they're cheaper and it'll do you much better.

Tinted visors give off a 'don't f*** with me' message, whereas iridium ones scream 'f*** me now, big boy!'

Colemans are pretty much the best :niceone: Just ask how many thousands Two Smoker (or Chris) has spent on his RG150 and other bikes there....

Highly recommend them.... as well as Wellington Motorcycles....

My iridium was roughly the same price as a tinted and is in its second year of near daily abuse and only has one major mark from when I put the pro-grip in and dropped it!

I wondered why I was always getting f***ed by big boys. Thanks for sorting that for me.

Just my 2 cents but I think it might be worth while to consider a slightly bigger helmet budget?? Body parts are pretty hard to replace, especially grey matter! Places like motomail offer interest free hiore-purchase. Just don't wanna see a fellow biker on the wrong end of an accident and the only thing that could have saved him/her is a better lid?!?

I was sortof under the assumption that a helmet is a helmet. If they wernt designed survive a serious impact then the wouldnt be sold. would they?

are Iridium visors those ones that look like an oil patch? all shiny and multi-colored?
I suppose the one ive got at the moment is Iridium, but its a bit scratched now. the whole helmet is at least 11 years old.

I like the mirror effect so that no one can see my face when im riding.

 makes me feel cool

specially when you give other riders the little nod ;)

Wait whats the difference between iridium and tinted?

Ohhhhhh.
I disagree. Id rather have that blue iridium than a crappy grey half tint.
I spose that dark tinted one is pretty cool If I had to have one.

Is there law about how much tint you can have on your visor?

Yes.
There are also mirrored ones, which have a shiny coating applied, like on my AGV, which is dark-tinted AND mirrored.

Not yet - there is in the UK, so it's probably only a matter of time before some bureaucrat dreams up a law against tinted/mirrored visors to justify his drab, boring, grey-suited, grey-faced existence.

Agreed. (Just me chiming in!)

I also saw the guys at Red Baron for general tuning/servicing stuff and all my experinces with them have been good too.

I can personally recomend everyone at Colemans, I bought my GZ250 from there and they are really good guys who take care of you, they are not there to take the piss and just make money out of you, these guys are bikers too and understand everyone from l plate riders (like me) to experienced hardcore bikers.

Yesterday I went in there because my brakes were making a funny noise, I asked Mike in services just to check them for me and he told me that I had no brake pads left (that would explain the noise  ), so they quickyl replaced them for me as I couldn't ride with no brakes, it took them 20 mins and I think cut into their lunch time, but the end result was that they are good guys who take care of you.

Piss Take.

A locally-agreed-upon convention to be used when unwonted seriousness and hurt feelings threaten.

Particularly amongst all the limp-wristed iridium visor wearers... :kick:
