View Full Version : Our cunning plan...

BrenChch and I had a talk yesterday and come up with a cunning plan.
Instead of a BOB, lets try and get a road race sectacular up and running, along the lines of Taupo. We know it wont be easy but waddayathink? We discussed.....
1. who has the passion to get this going? (Brens got some ideas)
2. what classes? Buckets, moderns, classic's (all classes combined), streetstock, Go karts (for something different)?
3. good food
4. trade displays ($200 to display for the weekend and that goes towards prize money for a class, for the weekend)
5. mobile dyno
6. Friday pratice
7. website with online entry
8. how much $100-150 including Friday practice?
9. get the local Motels on side with good rates (Yaldhurst, Templeton)
10. Free racing if you bring a flaggie
11. what do we call it?
12. what date (later this year when the days a longer and its warmer)?
13. BOB would be raced for, over the weekend in sprint races not and enduro?
Any good ideas are welcome. Would this get you norf island lot down?

It would be a lot harder to get going down here, the NI has the advantage of population base to fill up the fields
There may also be the problem of getting a good date to run it that isn't to close to the main season doesn't clash with club rounds etc or you're unlikey to get NI crew (with the exception of buckets) travelling
I'd look April/May far enough away from the National and most club rounds haven't started yet, but it should still be ok weather wise
Senior 600-1000
Junior up to 600
Streetstock
Buckets
past classic/classic
Karts
I think you'd find the Kart guys would be keen as they get little road racing anyway
What track would buckets run? full track? that'd count me out as would not running an enduro
You'd have to approach the bike shops and see if there is any interest in having trade stall and the motels to see if they'd offer a better rate
I'd also talk to Scrivy and Chris about the event they run and get some input

Oopppps forgot BEARs
What track were you thinking of, B track or full track?
If it was B track, drop senior and invite Motards

Hey sounds cool. I had every intention of coming to the BOB again this year but would be keen on this either way. Only suggestion, any way we can have no sleet and snow this year? :dodge: Love the free entry if you bring a flaggy idea!! We could definitely see if any of the Kart guys here would be keen on the trip.

Our cunning plan...... Buddha, you should have put this in the general 'racing' forum as its a meet aimed at all classes not just buckets a F1 rider aint likely to look in buckets, see if you can get it moved then start a thread in buckets pointing guys to the main thread... gezzzzzzzzzz, you got a lot to learn pressie :apint:
I think you'd find the Kart guys would be keen as they get little road racing anyway
Na forget them 4 wheeled things its a 'bike' meet, get motard involved I did a lot of work with them last year and they would be keen as to participate, and they take up less pit room... or not!
PS: besides Im one that dosent like seeing tards and road bikes mixed.

if there is a dyno why not have a dyno shoot out
most hp from a bucket :shit:

That would actually be very interesting AND useful.
You should try and arrange that even if it is a standard BOB.

I'd stick with the BoB as an endurance race as they are few and far between. Nearly every meeting has sprint races. I don't think I'd be as keen on 'just another bucket meeting' as I am for the point of difference that is the BoB - endurance.

Somehow Ruapuna in Autumn doesn't have the same appeal as Taupo at Xmas. :cold:
Have you guys talked to Red about his Britten festival event he ran? That should've/could've turned into something similiar to Taupo, sadly it seemed to lack support of any big sponsors to get on board.
Werent Motorcycling Canty running Karts at some of the club events?
I'd rather see less classes and maybe split the buckets up, A grade, B grade, and F5, along with Streetstock, Classics/Cams and maybe Motards.
Or do you see this as a separate event from Battle of Buckets, running BOB at a later event?

I'm with the Skunkinator on this one.
A one hour endurance race with one rider has a unique element about it that inspires me to travel down.
Something like Taupo RRS is awesome, but I can do that in the North Island.
The flag marshal idea is a great one :niceone:

No dates been set.......I was thinking more like spring? As we know the track is more avaliable in winter and we do have some nice winter days.......some shitters too.

IMHO, contact the car club or whoever it was you sorted last years meet with... try for sunday 5th april as the 4th is the MCC F4/cams/retard meeting a perfect time for the north Islanders to come.
Now that will be to early for your cunning plan, BUT try for a BOB meet like last year on that date.

Not sure about the hessitation amongst some of you in relation to Motards, if you want a successful event why would you exclude them?
they are a very exciting class to watch and the punters like watching them also.

Just as long as they don't get put in with the buckets.... I hate those motard "look out for my leg as I back my bike into your bike" bastards!! (I don't hate them, I just don't like them in with the buckets):calm:

That would be stooopid as the buckets are alot slower, we arent allowed to back it in or have our foot out when its a mixed class....... apparently........ backing in however is allowed on a sportsbike in a sportsbike race (go figure) and generally the knee on the deck is out more than a leg beside the front wheel, but we aint allowed to do that either (go figure)
Anyway getting off topic
If they do have motards they need to be in their own class, and if they are on the short track dont go giving them 6 laps of that little track when others get 6 laps of the big track ffs, we get 5 mins other get twice that for the same entry fee. if the small track twice the laps please or it shall be boycotted :msn-wink:

As far as our meet goes Q, we are promoting retards and to have their own class.
leg out and backing in as far as Im concerned is no issue HOWEVER the different lines they take when Im on a F3/F2 bike is dangerous, lets face it we take different lines.
I was planning on shearing the track this BOB with the retards, as we did with streetstock last year... I aint dealing with them again, BUT I handed presidentship over to Buddha last month so its his call now.

the only problem with motars is they suddenly turn sideways and slow down
right bang smack in frount of you as you enter a corner
and i have never seen any sportsbike enter corners with there leg infrount of the handlebars sideways to the track on full lock AND SURVIVE
yes they do back the bikes in but not as much as a motard
my hat goes off to the motards and they should have there own race as they are much more fun to watch
and I have seen Buckets do the oval WITH MOTARDS and keep up (Edit at Mt Wellington) and I have never seen a motard do 200k there either
go mister Morgan go
wheely's and all

Ya reckon??
Lines? Ive seen sportsbikes take different lines, Ive seen motards take different lines, dont think everyone does the same line ever in any class.
I can take any line I choose as the Motard is very agile, however I dont think Im taking a different line to when I raced a sportsbike to be honest,
You guys are basically talking up the general crap most sportsbike riders talk about Motards.....leg out, stop mid corner, different lines....I say Bollocks to it, any race on any bike in any class you have to adapt to the above issues all the time anyway and regulary
(I know I sound like a grumpy bastad Im not meaning to lol)
But a seperate Motard class would be great, I think you would get better numbers as far as entries are concerned as Motards like riding with other motards anyway......same as sportsbikes like riding with sportsbikes.
oh and do buckets go over 200kmph ??

oh and do buckets go over 200kmph ?? The "Kreidler Zigarre" (1965) a 50 cm³, record: 210,634 km/h 23.10.1965 it can be considered as a bucket as this bike was not a GP racer.

You Motard guys should have your own race. as your special and you deserve it.
I will enjoy the after race function with you, :woohoo: but I don't want to ride in the same race with you! :angry2: <--you) because you frighten me! :baby: <--me) with your riding behavior.
As an aside, Not 200kmph but my Bucket will keep up with any 125 air cooled Motard. :bleh:

Motards are generaly ridden in a different style to sports bikes
I'm not complaining you old fart:dodge: but you remeber whats it's like to try and overtake or get overtaken by a newbe
they pull past you and jam the brakes on in the corner
