View Full Version : Planning of a pootle.

Well for a little while now I have had this *itch* to go for a certain pootle. Well, 2 of them really...a smaller one first followed by a more extensive one.
I am starting the planning stages and hoping that you guys might be able to start looking at some material to help me plan the trip(s). The smaller one, I plan to go to somewhere in Asia such as Thailand or Vietnam (maybe right across the lot) or even from the top to the bottom of India and buy a small local motorcycle and travel from one end to another.

The second one, I am planning to be probably a 5 - 10 year goal, and it would be something not too different to what Ewn McGregor and Charlie Boorman did, when they went from London to New York or perhaps John O'Groats to South Africa.

I would like to do the smaller one in the next year or two and depending on the success of it, to start planning a much more extensive trip.

So to start the brainstorming on the logistics involved, what are some things I shoudl be considering and planning about? Hoping that with many minds thinking away,I can start planning and covering bases.

This is probably going to take a lot of planning, so I am prepared to make this up to a 10 year plan, but really would like to get a small adventure going in the next 2 years.

Some things I can think of just sitting here:

Visa's
Insurances
Routes
Places to stop on the way and some challenges / tasks to complete
Bikes
A person or 2 to come with for company
First Aid course
Costs
Areas that would just be too unsafe to travel through via a small underpowered motorcycle

You neglected to include money on your list. With the Kiwi dollar evaporating in value every day, epic journeys in places foreign are going to become increasingly expensive.

As for the best routes? Take your wife.

Haha yeah, hoping to keep the first trip somewhat low in cost by going to somewhere such as Thailand/India etc. and really doing it on the cheap. Very much for an 'experience'. Second trip will indeed be costly.

As for your second comment: Cheeky Bastard
