Fatalities!
If motorcyclists are 1% of total crashes then we would conclude motorcycles are safe.

What are you trying to say.
Dont take your statistic out of context.

He's not trying to say anything, as such. We all know the consequences of a motorcycle accident are potentially far more serious than an equivalent crash in a car.
Thanks for posting that SPMan. Isn't it interesting that with 'smooth' barriers in France, deaths have been halved??

Here's another article about the report, with a more detailed summary of its main points

http://www.ma.org.au/Content/MA/RideProgram/RidersRights/Road_Enviro_News.htm

The original PDF is supposed to be here

http://www.eurorap.org/library/pdfs/20081202_Bikers.PDF

but I'm getting timeouts when I try to download it (the EuroRAP site is down).

Here is the original, in case others have timeouts

Might be worth sending this to Mr Joyce I think.

EDIT Garrggh. It's too big. I'll have to split it up.

(In the absence of other info) I'd have thought that at 16% of all road fatalities and only 1% of all road accidents, motorcycles would appear (statistically speaking) to be (a tad) harder to survive a crash on

- a useful, but no doubt hard to establish (with any confidence) figure might be the % of bike accidents that are fatal ...

especially as a big % don't get reported cos no one got hurt and no one wanted a ticket
