Was thinking about it - possibly doing the first day on the CRF  which would be a real challenge! But think I'll play with my bucket at the have a go day instead. I need the track time... You sorted with somewhare to stay? Got a spare room here and we're 10 minutes from Hamptons Honda. Cheers.

I'm doing some road miles on the XT for a change and a number of friends are are on their GS800's, so some Adv bikes coming along. I'm really doing a
TT1000 as I can only make the Sunday... but should be good.

Thanks Stu,

Will definitely be packing the old Rukka "spacesuit" in case of the rains. I've found out tonight that I'm on the Northern loop on Sunday, so Picton etc which should be good. Looking forward to the road miles with the new Airoh adventure helmet that I recently picked up - with visor :Punk:, so no goggles in the rain which is nice...

Guess what bike finished the TT2000 and all the clip-on's first? Not a fancy dandy thinly disguised road racing machine but a humble adventure bike! Well done RedKLR650. Awesome effort mate  :2thumbsup

Cheers Tim, but to be fair I was only 1st equal :second:as there was a Suzuki rocketship piloted by track racer :scooter:Dennis Cullen of Chch beside me for the whole trip, so I had a good coach on the twisties :psst:

......and it's not so much speed, but quick and infrequent fuel stops, a 23 litre tank being an advantage on such rides.....:ride:

Sadly the guy that was doing the trip with me from Timaru lost his lisence for doing 150 around the bottom of Lake Pukaki on Saturday morning. The 6 officers :Police:based at Omarama for the weekend ( inclluding 3x mufti's ) didn't help things either.....

The IRC GP110 rear tire performed fantastic :scooter:, using the whole tread width on roads like Queen Charlotte drive between Picton and Havelock, and the only issue I had all weekend reliability wise was a blown indicator fuse ( I guess Kawasaki didn't expect a KLR to be passing much ):oi-grr:

A great weekend, and thankfully, good weather for the whole trip.....

Good on 'ya!
We saw a few of 'yas in Reefton when we were filling up.
Some were only focussed on the next bit and others were just buzzing about the whole trip. Or maybe he just was on a trip :D

I actually have quite a good handle on my South Island geography..... unlike the North Island, where the first time I took the bike north headed for Dorkland, I ended up in Wanganui !!! ??? by mistake ( missed the turn in bulls..... and it was dark )

I filled at Reefton at 4.40pm, what time were you through ? ( There may have been others before us that hadn't done the clipon legs - see www.tt2000.org (http://www.tt2000.org) )

And I was more knackered than buzzing by Reefton....... :zzzz:

I think we left Reefton about 5, were filling up about 4 though. There was a guy on a black Kawasaki with his daughter on the back who was fizzing and a couple of others, Mr black Kawasaki was doing the clipons too

Back at the Reefton Mobil at 5pm and left at 5:45pm.
There was a dude with his daughter? on the back of a sportbike who was buzzing and said he'd done the clipon's? (as Jatz the flying fingers has just said...)

You certainly earned some points for the KLR in the Tiresome DR/KLR Thread. It can certainly go, you passed me and Grant (XT600 & GS800) round Cheviot and we'd been circulating through up to that point :2thumbsup I'd never done the Picton to Havelock road and yes the K270 now looks well worn on the edges!
Definitely get a two day pass from the Boss next year as the Southern Route also looked good and also a screen for the front as 1200k's of windblast is interesting..:buggerd:
Well done for getting the award.
Cheers Bish

ps It looks like XT's (not mine!) can certainly hustle from this Youtube vid!

Me thinks the 640 would have showed up the sprotsbikes too :-) :love:Ahem, it does at times. The DR-Z250 has also given the 600 & 1000 bikes the hurry-up along Qn Charlotte Dr on occasion. :devil2: Sometimes a scalpel (however blunt) is more effective than an axe! :msn-wink:

Will have to give this run a blast next year.

I'll follow you then Werewolf. Can't decide weather to take the DR or the Triumph.
Trumpy would be fasterer but DR has more adjustment in sitting/standing to stretch legs (try standing on the triumph and it's gunna get messy)

Well done BTW redKLR, good effort

Thanks Bish, it was good to catch up on Sunday after the ride, I must admit to feeling a bit jaded by the time I got back to Timaru that night ( 1438 kms total on day 2 after 1297 kms the day before was starting to take it's toll..... )

Anyway, I thought you might like to see this video I shot on the KLR about 18 months ago.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DZwHNaAgiH0

The guy following on the GSX1000 is Mark, the same guy that got the 150km ticket on the TT2000 at Lake Pukaki on Saturday morning, ( :Police: Instant loss of lisence and $630 fine ) and before you yell about our travelling distance, we do ride together a lot, and that is probably our most travelled piece of road, the twisties between Geraldine and Fairlie.....

We were close drafting so I could get some good footage of Mark, when at around 39 seconds into the video, I cranked it over just a tad too far, and BAM ! :Punk:the sidestand tripoded the bike, kicked up a few sparks and gave the rear wheel a wee nudge sideways......

Mark pulled back quickly and couldn't stop laughing....

But as you can see, those IRC110GP's grip pretty well

Shot with a wee Oregon scientific Action Cam strapped to my leg.... <_<

Your thoughts ?

OK on seal, OK on gravel but just wish they were a little softer compound.

Stu - you certainly gave the stand a good clunk :2thumbsup the IRC do work well - I had several sets of their TR8's on my 18" wheel in the UK and they did the biz off-road and on... nearly as grippy as a Pirelli trials tyre (MT43) but lasted about 3x as long!

Good cam - you'll have to get some more adv footage with it...

But sorry, I didn't even take a camera on this trip, hardly had the time for a leak  let alone shots of the scenery...... :eek5:

But there seems to have been a bit of interest in this, so I will be posting a full ride report in the next few days :angry2:

Have you sent back the yellow anorak yet ;-)

Trumpy would be fasterer but DR has more adjustment in sitting/standing to stretch legs (try standing on the triumph and it's gunna get messy)If it was all sealed roads, I would take the Trophy no hesitation. It just cruises along so nicely, standing to stretch is no problem, but for me it was v.comfortable. Did several Grand Challenges, Southern Cross rallies and similar rides on it.:niceone:
