I've just sold the GN and I'm going to look at a Honda Xelvis, apparently a VT250FN in diguise. It looks a little rough cosmeticly but ok otherwise. I know little about bikes and would appreciate any feedback.

I'd do a search here for Xelvis -- I remember a thread last year maybe, I think it was generally agreed that they're awesome and don't have the crankshaft problems of the earlier VT250 models. Pretty rare though -- grey import?

Na, there is no real problem with spares.
All the consumables are made by after market manufacturers.
Almost everything else is common to other Hondas.
If all else fails, Japan is always there..... Parts are only a plane trip away.
You won't brake any land speed records on the Xelvis, but a really great bike to ride.

Well, I've sold the GN so quickly need another bike and anything else will seem like shit off a shovel after that. Still, she will remain fondly in my memory

Really?
You will be over it in a matter of days ;)
Seriously though, I'm confident you will love the Xelvis.

Got to the bike shop and found the Xelvis had been sold just before I got there. Eventually after trying another couple I settled on a low K's Suzuki Katana 250. Feel a bit like a jockey on it but goes rather well I thought, but then after the GN I suppose it would. Got an after market muffler so sounds nice too. Never too old to be a kid 'eh.

Shame you didn't get the Honda......
Not to worry, the Katana will serve you well. Looks like you are destined to own Suzukis forever ;)
