Does anyone have a motorcycle breakdown provider which they can recommend?

I called state insurance and they don't provide breakdown cover for motorcycles, the AA do but they will only provide a contribution towards the costs i.e. in Auckland that is $40. I expect that if I need a trailer to take the bike to the shop it is going to cost a lot more than $40.

Any recommendations?

I know swann offers it, not sure on the particulars, but they arrange a truck to pick it up etc. I do believe there are limits on how much, and you get 1 a year free or something (up to a dollar limit for it)?

If you join AA and get AA Plus, then they will cover motorcycles as well as cars, pick up and transport it, help with accomodation etc to get home. But it is unlikely their mechanics can help on side of road, unless it is something easy like running out of gas.

In all honesty... get a few numbers off KB that you can ring should it happen. There's people up and down the country willing to help - it's been done time and time again with great success.

If it happens, ring someone from KB, have them post a "HELP NEEDED" thread... problem sorted. Not quite as fast at the others but I personally am banking on it - and with quite some confidence I hasten to say!

Yes, he's called "my husband" but his service is very exclusive unfortunately.

Seriously though, look at another insurer that does provide it, or get to know some KBers if you think it's going to be something likely to occur.

I just called the AA to sign up to AA-Plus for $122, and they say they cover motorcycles and tow to the nearest service center, etc... BUT they "cannot guarantee the bike will be transported in an upright position." !!
That's a direct quote from the sales-person's spiel.
WTF?!

The AA would just engage their lowing towing firm. I would be surprised if their were many towies that couldn't strap your bike down onto the dexk.

I have never had or heard of a comprehensive motorcycle insurance policy that does NOT provide a recovery service.

Perhaps I should read the small print to check I am covered.
