View Full Version : Latte riders?

Being a soft cock and having pulled out of the Wobblington ride next weekend I feel an urge to go somewhere anyway...probably north (cause it's been a bit ignored really) and on sunday the 15th.
Update: the important bit is meet at the Shell Westgate petrol station ready to go at 9.00am.
For those prone to getting lost thats take the North western Motorway to the end (at Massey?) turn left and approx 1km down the road on the left is the Shell petrol station.
I'm on a black KTM990, if you need a contact number send me a PM.
Depart via back roads to Wellsford.
Wellsford towards Mangawhai (or Kaipara)
9.00 till 3ish aimless wandering and general hilarity (no falling off ok?)
Lunch is somewhere in here?
3ish till later, find a pub and tell some lies (puhoi or around matakana depending on where we're coming from)
Back roads to nw motorway and home for 6ish.
Gravel as much as possible and maybe up or down Muriwai beach if the tides are right, anyones welcome as long as you are self sufficient...ie. have a map and can read it!
Cheers
Iain

Damn!
Have been meaning to lean on you about just this sort of day and north of town as I haven't done much gravel up that way. However, I'm gonna be at a concert in a vineyard that day.

We're going to need to get our social calendars better organised mate!
If it's any help, I have the possibility of rides on these dates:
28 feb / 1 mar
7/8 mar
21/22 mar.
I have to check if I'm allowed out to play on these dates tho, my higher authority hasn't signed off on these yet.

It comes out at Kaipara flats, turn right to got to Dome Valley.....
Good ride, recommend it...

Certainly one of the best in that area, it's a pity there is so much seal around now that it is hard to string a ride together without lots of boring bits. Thanks for the reminder tho.
Pukekohe classic's for me on Sunday.

There's obviously a tear in the time space continium around your place...this weekend 6/7/8 for the classics. You'll have to think of a better excuse now, however that was a 6 /10 for inventiveness.

Umm... I may have it all wrong - I often do, but I thought Classics at Puke was this weekend and Crisis is talking about the 15th.
Please sort me out if I have this screwed up as I intend getting to the classics for the Sunday at least.
Edit: Just checked and it appears that I have it right for once. Also, that it pays to read the whole thread before posting. Doh!

So any willing accomplices (or otherwise) and helpful suggestions.......
Cunning plan goes something like this.
8.00am meet at Riverhead,
8.01 depart via back roads to Wellsford. (note the punctuality)
8.15 Wellsford towards Mangawhai (or Kaipara)
8.30 till 3ish aimless wandering and general hilarity (no falling off ok?)

Is yor date firm at this stage? I'm going to go with the Blast From the Past ride on the 15th - my bike fits in and I don't have to get up early. But my riding will fit in better with this ride....although I'll have to get up real early or stay overnight in Jafaland.

The 15th is the only date I have free so thats firm, with the amount of interest from the southern riders I was thinking of say 9 or 9.30 start and meeting at the gas station at the top of the north western motorway to make it "findable", any coments?
Plan is: north towards wellsford, detour via kaipara flats & kaipara flats road to Okahukura peninsula (southern Kaipara harbour), to Port Albert then over to mangawai heads...lunch?
Follow east coast down towards pakiri, to wellsford, HW 16 then backroads to Puhoi (pub) then either motorway south of backroads back to north western motorway.
Fairly adjustable if time runs short but gives a reasonable chance of gravel roads and odd places to end up in.
Feedback about the start time please!

I'm still in.
Saw john, the new scrambler dude, and if it fits his w/end, he is in too.
Saw another sthern scrambler rider outside the shop today. (Graham on line here i think).
Talked for a bit, then split.
We are taking over, resistance is useless, join the collective. Seven of Nine is Hot.
Edit. Got a txt from john. He's in. Woot! Matt black scrambler joins the convoy.
(now to drag a few other Whaka Too nanna's along. Dino..............?
Maybe Huntly Shell could be a meet point for Waikato boys n girls, say 7ish?

Fatty is ready to roll.:headbang:
Crusty Demons Tour manager came into work yesterday looking for various help, so I offered to do a double backflip off the ramp to entertain the crowd, but since I couldn't guarantee a clean landing, he politely said my services wouldn't be needed:rolleyes:
Get that sunshine sorted Ian, I'm on Scorpians, and mud and slush isn't there best friends.:(

The thought of fatty launching off a ramp is truly terrifying.....there is a fairly long & high wharf at Port Albert you could have a practice on tomorrow tho...I'll bring a camera! :niceone:
Sunshine is on order but I could use some physical proof of it soon please???? You will be ok on the scorpions as it's all gravel roads and as long as we get a couple of hours of no rain this will dry out well.

Sounds interesting, all those northern gravel roads are calling!
Thanks guys, it was a good day out, about 500kms for me so you waikato boys must have racked up a bit.....anyone got any pics?
I carefully forgot to take any as I was too busy doing battle with Pete, the last bit home on Krippner got "interesting" in a couple of places.

1. We can go even further north if you like, Ian. We could base a weekend at my place at Russell.
2. Yeah, I looked in my mirror at you too long and looked back at the road to see the corner a helluva lot closer than I thought. I think your near-oops was much the same when I was following you.
3. Me, too, with the camera, which was in my bag the whole time. I always forget to take pics. My camera does 5000km/pic, I think.
4. A good, fun, ride, and great company. Thanks, guys.
PS I have done a real latte ride, you know: www.advrider.com/forums/showthread.php?t=355891

No, no, no, no, mine was "lets not close the throttle and try applying the brakes" then "why the fuck is this thing not slowing down, followed by, where's that corner gone then?" Clearly not my finest moment.

You can, and at a choice of waterfront places, too.
Without even leaving Russell, so you won't have to clean the dirt off your tyres, either.
