Ive never seen anyone with a personalized plate on a bike. are they too 'riff-raff' or just plain un-cool

Ps. What a rip! $504 for a plate whether its for a bike (only one given) or a cage (obviously two)

I was going to vote for the limp wristed option, but I have an iridium visor. So I couldn't possibly comment.

But I vote Bykey Cops is the best personal plate I've seen on a bike. It's on his profile.

Personalised plates are dumb.

Unless they're on summat special, like a rare or classic vehicle, or maybe for advertising purposes on a commercial vehicle.

And - as has been said before on here more than once - they make it easier for people to remember your rego when you do summat stupid or naughty.

Hmmmm - just trying to work out what you mean here. If it's blatantly obvious that you're saying if it's 'riff raff' then it's the ultimate in cool, then please forgive me for I have had a hard night shift and very little sleep today.

had given serious thought about this actually.. Not sure if it's a cool thing or not, but I've seen a few that have bought some, and Quasi has that on his bike, altho he's not around to chat about it.. Also seen MI DUC, NO CAR, YW8 and a few humorous others..

I thought about getting BGJCE for mine, and then if I really really wanted, there's BUGJCE for the cage too.. Or may be something to do with it's colour, like 13BAL (for those pool players out there), or F66OO (for those web guys) and thought of a couple of others, but can't remember..

I think you should add to the poll, or do another - Personal Plate - wankish, or coolio?

Plus, one benefit to a plate, more money to ACC, so when you bin it, you can get bumped up to the SuperSuit room in ER*

Hell, if you've got the money burnin a hole, go for it

*all fake, but the mula helps them tho, which in turn helps us one day

A while back, before I had even thought about racing, I always wanted to get a R1 road bike with the plate "THE 1". Thought it would have been pretty cool.

Also seen MI DUC...

The yellow Monster?

I regularly pass him on the NW motorway in the mornings and evenings.

He used to filter with reasonable gusto, but then one day I saw him up on the motorway shoulder receiving a finger-waggling from a bike cop.

Now he just sits in traffic.

Yeah thats a point. I spose it only applies if your regularly in a position to be caught by your rego.
My bike too underpowered for anyone to get really annoyed enough to actually remember it. all I do is filter.

Not really, but I have an un-presented birthday present from January that I am trying to find something cool and relevant,

Originally I was going to build a shed for the bike. keep it away from the rain and the thieves etc. but now im too lazy and just leave it on the driveway

Well after being behind the bar, serving things like a 'concrete mixer' and an 'abortion' while also being asked for "a slow screw against a wall", a "quick fuck" and a "screaming/multiple orgasm". I'm thinking a 'G & R' will seem a bit tame *shrug*

It's not a matter of tame.

It's a matter of putting raspberry syrup in Guinness, and the presumable (to me, at the time) insanity of anyone who'd want to.

When I'm Emperor, personalised plates will be but one of the many things away with I shall do!

A registration plate exists for one purpose: to clearly and unambiguously identify the vehicle to which it is attached. Many personalised plates run counter to this purpose, particularly those crafted by sad fucks whose first (and possibly even their second or third) choice of plate has been already "taken".

A registration plate should not be kerned or have spaces inserted. L33t should not be allowed. Get over yourself, it's not that clever. And people who think they're putting their business name or something that has a "marketing" advantage have generally either been sold a pup or don't understand anything about the principles of branded identity.

When I was working as a claims handler, we had a funny one. Of course in the industry we could log onto a LTSA website and type in the rego and get details on the vehicle/ registered owner etc. anyway. for a joke someone typed in "STOLEN' and youd think it was too funny to be true but the registration plate was recorded on the LTSA site as 'Vehicle reported stolen'

why only 5 letters for bikes!!!! I am gusseing the size thing, but would it be illegal to use a 6 digit plate on a bike?? Motu??
Six-digit plates for bikes must only be a couple of years away. All of the Ws are nearly used up. And once 99ZZZ has been issued, that's the end of the possible five-digit sequences (don't forget that five-digit plates are also used for trailers, tractors and some roadworking machinery).

aren't trailers and may be some other vehicles have their regs' as XXX99 as the oposite to bikes having 99XXX.. Can't really think of an alternative.. may be 999XX..?

Also 99ZZZ is taken ;)

I don't think it's a physical thing, that we're not allowed 6 digits. I think that's just an attempt to keep things in a bit more of an order. Kinda logical, but then, kinda not..

All for the personalized plates for bikes IF it fits the attitude of the rider and look of the bike. When I start building choppers I have a few ideas for those Such as 'drag on' if it hasnt been taken by then. Think it already is actually. Ohwell I have others.

Mine is "MATHU", when it was on my car it used to read "MATH U" which made it a little more obvious for some. My wife has ANITA T on our car. I also have NITOR and IM MAT in storage ready for the glorious day that I get a 2nd bike.

The only downside to having a p/plate on your vehicle is getting remembered whenever you do dumb shit. Other than that its fine. I got a major telling off by a customer at Motomart one time. I was in a hurry to get to Hutt hospital from the CBD and apparently I changed lanes a wee bit close to the a car. The driver freaked out, hit the brakes and nearly caused a major pileup. This guy rememered the plate and let me know what he thought about me when he saw me in there a month or so later.

Personalised plates are dumb.

Unless they're on summat special, like a rare or classic vehicle, or maybe for advertising purposes on a commercial vehicle.

And - as has been said before on here more than once - they make it easier for people to remember your rego when you do summat stupid or naughty.

http://www.landtransport.govt.nz/vehicle-ownership/registration.html about half way down Replace a plate for $8.80 I know they are running a business, and that there is the additional paperwork of changing plate details, but the raw product cost $8.80 retail. Nice profit margin there.

What sluts me off is that even with PPlates, you're limited to 5 characters for motorbikes.

Back when I had my '54 Zundapp and '66 Puch scooters, I wanted to have pplates for them (yeah, like I could really afford that)

I used to call the Puch "The Beast" and the Zundapp "the Dragon" (it was green and it blew out a lot of smoke (pre-mix blue-smoke))

Wanted to have their names in German (native language of their respective countries of origin) but when it came to the Zundapp neither DRACHE nor the English word DRAGON would be allowed as they were one character more than that allowed for a motorcycle

WTF does it matter if a PPlate on a bike is 6 chars rather than 5? It's a custom plate - we're already breaking the "number, number, letter, letter, letter" format.

If I had a decent bike that I deemed worthy of a pplate, I'd get one but it'd have to have some sort of meaning.

I think adding a PPlate to your bike/car is just another way to add a bit of your personality to it, much the same as we do when we bolt on bits. A set of aftermarket mufflers for instance. Sure they add to the performance, make a lot more noise etc... but is also changing it from the norm.

When I had my TL for instance I spent a lot of time personalising it. Putting a PPlate on it was just a progression from that. The plus is that you can take your plate with you if you wish when you change bikes.

Wolf

Unless, of course, you've picked one that references the vehicle like "82BMW" or some such - then the plus is that you can add the price of the plate (and any mark-up you wish) to the price of the bike when you sell it.

Trailers, tractors and road working machinery all have five-digit or fewer plates. They're gone-burgers. Once 99ZZZ is issued (somebody says it's already gone, probably as a PP), that's it. Six-digit plates for bikes too.
