Just got a new Virago 250 which of course has no tacho. I'm wondering what the maximum RPM should be during the first 1000k whilst running in. I've noticed that there is quite a bit of vibration above certain speeds such as 35k's in 2nd 50 in 3rd or 60 in 4th, is this normal ? Can anyone relate those speeds to RPM for me it sounds low but is hard to tell without a tacho.
thanks

Don't give it full throttle and you will be fine, listen to the engine too if it sounds like its struggling a bit ride in a higher gear.
Have fun and the rest will come in time.

this is an excellent recipe to glaze the bores
if the engine sounds like its struggling it probably is - change down a gear

I don't think it is related to load, I just seems to be getting vibration above certain RPM - (ie 35 in 2nd) 35K's in 2 I'm guessing is about 4000RPM can anyone with a virago confirm ? It's the same down hill or up. It almost seems like the timing is too far retarded as it seems to pull abit too easy at low revs but doesn;t like it higher up. Perhaps all the Virago's are the same - I was hoping someone who had one could confirm ! cheers

As an engine builder all I can say is don't labour it, roll the throttle on rather than grabbing great handfuls and if in doubt, increase the revs. Run it in slow, it'll end up slow.
