Hi guys,
Just curious where all the bikers have been or going to this weekend. Just did a morning trip from AKLD to Warkworth (and back) to try the new toll road and saw heaps of fellow bikers out in both directions. Meet a nice couple up in a Warkworth cafe too.
Unfortunately we couldn't do a longer trip as expecting visitors but hope everyone got out in the nice weather and let her rip.

I got up early and when for a run to Akaroa then back to Little River for a long black (coffee ya perverts!) and a piece of ginger slice.
I timed it well as I missed the road train of cars and cars towing boats over the hill :2thumbsup
I did notice 2 speed camera vans parked up on the highway. I have to say I wonder about the point of this - a long weekend, heaps of traffic going that way and they put 2 speed cameras up. Mufti ones too (vans). If the point is to slow people down a marked police car in plain sight works extremely well. Most people getting a speed camera ticket will not know until it arrives in the post.

vtec and I had an excellent pushbike cruise yesterday which took in the Movenpick shop in Mission Bay. It's Always Better With Icecream (tm).
And I got the learn. There's a lot to be said for working as a bicycle courier; those guys are strong motherfuckers.

Stayed the fuck well-away from the VERY heavy presence of bacon on the roads out west (1@bike, 5@cars, 1@ MSV on the motorway).
So I went to the Auckland war memorial museum. Haven't been there in years... OK "decades"...
Air conditioned as well.

You have experience with bicycle couriers?
In that I used to know a few who were part of CourierDJs and various squats in East London, yes. Mad bunch of dudes they were too, with their fixed-gear bikes and tales of speeding (in both senses of the word) through the City.
Probably not the experience you were alluding to though :P

Wasn't alluding to anything in particular, just wondering how you knew of bicycle courier matters.

Out thru Halswell then thru Gebbies pass back to Chch. Observed stupid passing shit still happening ... once by a group of about twenty non-Jap bikes negotiating their way around a ute with oncoming traffic and then on Gebbies by a Jap sprots bike hurtling past another bike on the apex of a left-hander. A few minutes later we rounded a corner to find a bike lying on the road with it's owner deposited in the grass against a fence and not moving a heck of a lot. The skidmark suggests he misjudged the downhill left hander, locked it up and dumped it. Nice hole in the petrol tank meant it wasn't going much further that day (not that he was in any condition to ride anyway). Due to this particular biker's circumstances I'll not say anything more about what transpired. After about half an hour at the road side and after the cops arrived we moved on at an even more sedate pace than usual and back home for a quiet de-brief.
I am in a state of disquiet.

Cor - good effort!
I finally got out today, thought I'd do an easy ride around the mountain (Raetihi, Waiouru, Rangipo, National Park and home) but also decided to take a side trip up the Tukino road, having been up as far as the 2WD car park in a bus a couple of weeks ago. I nearly made it to the Round the mountain track, but chickened out and spent a very long time getting back down!
Great day for a ride, but only saw about four other bikes. Saw heaps on Thursday gassing up at Raetihi on their way to Puke.

Since Ive bought an adventure bike, I went adventuring. Not really: just a little trial run to test my new shocks (Ohlins: O for Oarsome) and see what the beastie goes like on shingle.
Answer: better than the Hornet thats for sure. It is a great big lump of a thing, and I am a tiny wee man, so if it starts to go, I will be bailing out, but my trip to Diamond Harbour- Purau- Pigeon Bay then back to town via Devauchelle passed without real incident.
I do live in a very nice part of the world.

Out to the Whangamomona Pub and back Saturday morning. My mate needed to exchange some T-shirts he purchased on the Chateau to Plateau so what better excuse to ride in for a coffee at Whanga.
Popular place as always, we met 10 or so bikes that had stayed at the pub heading for Stratford as we headed in and a few more than that headed in for lunch as we headed out. Warm day again but too early in the day for us to suffer melting tar this time.

Was a mint day indeed, Traffic was alittle heavy heading from Levin to Wgtn,
Passing lane on forest lakes road was closed but in true Balzy style we zipped across and had the whole lane to ourselves much to the disgust of the poor cagers who were trapped in it, LOL,(points and laughs at cagers)
Must say a fair few of them did move over as we came through paecock, Made it home in one piece but are pretty buggered and will sleep well tonight
