hey guys and gals, just wondering if its ok/safe to use silicone spray lube on oring chains, or chains at all really. Cos I bought a can cos i ran out of oil for my paintball gear and I know a few people that use it on their paintball markers/guns cos the silicone doesnt attack our precious orings like petroelium(sp?) based lubes/oils do and figured I could use it on my chain. Though Id rather have some feedback before I use it.
Cheers

Silicone spray will be 5/8 of fuck-all better than nothing. Buy some proper chain lube. The favourites around here seem to be Maxima Chain Wax and Bel Ray Ultra clean. Motul and Silkolene also make popular stuff.

Yeah, WD40 is fine on o-ring chains, but provides little lubrication. It's very good for cleaning them though, as it's mostly kerosene. When my chain's getting noisy/dirty, I hose it down with WD40, wipe it, then followup the next day or two with Spectro Chainwax.
CRC556 isn't as good though - different solvents.

Got a can of Silkolene from the bike shop recently. Big can, $24.95 so it's gonna last a very long time with me lubing the chain every two weeks.
Guys there say it's the best stuff and they use it in the shop. Price is pretty reasonable too.
It's non flick and suitable for o-ring chains :niceone:

good for waterproof leathers.. if you need to use it for something that is...
spray it on, let it sit in the sun... spray more on, sit in the sun a bit more... you get the idea.

cheers for the advice, ive got an oring chain at home waiting to go on my zzr but Im waiting for some more cash so i can replace the sprokets at the same time. And yes I do intend to get some decent chain lube when i put the new chain on. :niceone: just gotta get round to buying the stuff.
Was just mainly interested to see wether it was alright cos it does say it can be used on chains. Otherwise Im happy to use it on paintball markers. :2guns:
Cheers
