Performance boosts for TRX850

Other than suspension work does anyone know A) what HP the trx850 puts out and B) how to extract MORE from one ?
I know the generic stuff of course just wonder if anyone has specifically got one hummin.

Better breathing. It's peak piston speed is pretty much at the limit for the metallurgy of the day.

They run rich, so setting carbs up nicely coupled with a better air filter and either removing the last baffle from the stock pipes or some nice after market pipes will get you close to 80HP.

You get better results in point to point speed by sorting the suspension. The front needs Gold Valve emulators and springs and the rear generally needs a heavier spring unless you are in the 60-70kg weight range.

Stick with the stock tyre sizes (120/60 front and 160/60 rear) and it turns quickly and holds a line beautifully. You can get on the gas very early with no dramas.

The TRX IMHO is a very underrated bike. Like the Deuce meister says they're a nimble machine with good punchy if not overtly powerfull engine. A well ridden SV650 is more than a match but that's not the point.

80hp would be just nice for rapid traversing of mountain passes without the rate of tyrewear you get with a 600 of 1000 IL4. The sport bikes wouldn't be that much quicker (if at all) and the low stress engine makes for a more relaxing ride. Any work to get more power would detract from the engines civility and as James said you have to spend moon beams.

I really regret not attempting to buy the one I nearly wrote off, I really enjoyed riding it, oh well one day:rolleyes:

Stock power was enough to scare me shitless the first time I tried to see how fast it would go away from the traffic lights! Front wheel came up and I near filled my pants. Anything more than 35hp is just decadence :)

The TDM900s make a bit more stonk, don't they? You could just drop one in?

Or just buy one the TDM (make sure you get the factory replacement CDI though) slightly more practical than the TRX. Nice ride position. A bit unconventional looks wise, eye of the beholder and all that.

The TDM is a brilliant bike, but a sorted TRX will see it off on a hill road.

The single best performance mod you can make is making sure the throttle cables have no slack. The TRX has Throttle Position Sensors and any slack at all turns the throttle into a switch, rather like modern Euro 3 compliant fuel injection. Closed throttle to just cracked is fine if there's no slack. Any slack at all and it will lurch from throttle off to any small throttle setting.

It's so free revving that you have to be careful or you're on the limiter before you know it.

I'll second that. The XTZ750 motor (a 360 degree crank vs the 270 of the TRX motor) will hit 10k rpm easy as pie if your not watching. They have miles of over rev and just keep pulling. The XTZ motor is most productive in the 5k range though.

Maybe have a look on some of the euro XTZ sites (http://www.xtz750.com) cause they love to put hopped up TRX motors in them. The TDM900 motor is a little different and wont fit as easily but will fit. I suspect the same applies to putting a TDM900 into a TRX. I've seen figures of 105hp for a fully worked TRX850.

You're dead right there. Don't laugh, everybody, but I found it somewhat similar to a vastly scaled-up 250RS lump in the way it revs and produces power. So much so that the lower redline caught me out. It's not the sort of engine that's happy to be lugged, either.

Cant be a racebike there aint a class for it.But it feels like a SV to ride just much much nicer in the handling department.I want a bike thats actually MINE not a for sale shop bike.
It already has a free breathing airbox and lugs nfrom 2k without farting and coughing. stock mufflers so I wonder if M4 still have an old performance exhaust.

The end caps are held on by allen head bolts.

Take these off. Get a hacksaw and cut through the weld that holds the last baffle on.

Better breathing and a much better sound.

When the ZX9R bit the Roo, there was a very nice TRX in the local shop - after market pipes, suspension mods, etc.... for a great price - they sold it 2 hrs before I got there....bastards!

Hi Frosty.Pretty muchagree with these comments.Do the pipes,chain adjustment is critical ,combine with throttle and tps adj and you have a very user friendly weapon.Do emulators ,drill:air box,definitely respond to 1 down on front:2thumbsup
