I've always had good success with kero for things like tar and general rood spooge, but melted plastic/leather (?) might be a bit of a challenge. Maybe heat it up with a hair dryer and try wipe it off with various solvents?

On the only bike I have with chrome I just scape off the melted stuff with a razor blade then use autosol polish. But this bike has real chrome an inch thick....

Hi. I would highly recommend you use "Autosol Metal Polish". You can get it from super cheap and it is in a tube like toothpaste. It will last a long time and is cheap to buy. I use it. Try it. What more can I say.

Try a Steelo soap pad. Remember not to rub too hard and in line with the length of the muffler, rather than round and round. Otherwise try lots of saliva and enthusiasm.

I'd heat the pipes up (as in ride it!) then use a rag with a bit of kero on it to wipe off as much as possible. Note take care here as obviously the kero is flammable.
Then try a bit of De-solv-it (available from your supermarket) to get off the remaining crap, and finally polish with Autosol to a mirror shine, then smile.

i use a product called 'brite n shine" or something similar. it comes in a fluro yellow tin and is a cotton wool type product. get it from supercheap... costs between 9 and 20 bucks i think... been that long since i bought any! lasts forever if you keep the lid on it. even bits that are black can still be used to clean chrome.
id run the bike stationary for a while and then scrape as much off as possible... i use my finger nail as i dont want to scratch anything. use the cotton wool stuff to remove whatevers left. it does take elbow grease. it removes chain grease off the rear rim pretty much instantly.
*note: the cleaner can be used everywhere except for paint [not sure why, but i was always told to keep it off paint] even cleans mirrors and the dried bugs off the front.

Check this thread - there is a product mentioned in there that has been used to clean chrome.

I use a Pacer product called Glass Cleaner Polish (http://www.pacer.co.nz/shop/product_info.php?products_id=583&CS=210935faf73e155cb3ec7cd0991c8b56) combined with a very fine metal scourer. This is what the professional car groomers use (I was one) and it always did the trick, including removing melted on scum or rust.

Myth busters says that cleaning with pepsi and aluminium foil works better than a 'leading brand' chrome cleaner.. Who knows. Good luck.:niceone:

Possibly some kind of displacement reaction using the high reactivity of aluminium to remove corrosion?

This stuff is the shiz: http://www.blue-job.com/
If your happy to wait a few days for it to turn up in the mail, requires a bit of elbow grease but seemingly gets anything off chrome without any damage to the finish.

I use a water blaster on fan spray, spray my pipes to get easy to get off stuff then use warm water with armorall wax and shine and scrub with a sponge pad with a soft scourer on 1 side, then spray off that, dry, then use autosol, although although autosol burns on exhaust headers

Fine grade steel wool works well too, particularly when combined with kerosene and Elbow Grease(TM).

Elbow Grease(TM).
Aye, they don't make that like they used to.
But you try telling the young people that these days..... (best read in Yorkshire accent)

According to this, yes: http://www.instructables.com/id/Chrome-Polishing,-Mythbusters-Style/
I'd imagine any 'Cola' product would work, though I'd guess that the diet stuff is nastier (read more effective) as it has a lot more unpronouncable chemicals in it. :)
