Hello; I'm calling from Canada. I've been thinking about moving to NZ from Can. The winters are too long and I hate not being able to ride for 5 months at a time. We have some crazy speed laws here as well. If your caught doing 50km over the speed limit ( including passing a car) your bike is towed & impounded for a week (at your cost) and you will loose your licence for a year. Please tell me you have no such law.
How are the other drivers and riders down there. The drivers are pretty good here. I'm luck to have even one close a year. Are sport bikes common there or is it the H-D & H-D wanabie???
I have a million questions...I'll see what kind of responces I get.

Welcome to the forum.

Here in NZ, if you're caught exceeding the speed limit by 40kph or more, your driver's licence is instantly suspended for 28 days.

And if you're caught riding on a suspended licence or while disqualified from holding one, your vehicle is immediately impounded for 28 days.

But neither of the above is anywhere near as harsh as what you describe in Canada, and there are still significant portions of the roading network (often the best bits, too) that the Highway Patrol does not cover.

Not to mention regular and cheap trackdays at each of the North Island's three (soon to be four, with WSB coming to the new one from 2010 onwards) racetracks and very friendly and accessible club-level racing.

In terms of what you'll find out there... plenty of sprotbikes, plenty of cruisers, plenty of adventure riding types who like falling off in mud and gravel. Never any hassle finding people to ride with no matter what your preference.
