Now if all you Harley sneerers would like to ride with 1000 bikes, which I really enjoy, you can join along at the rear of procession with the other non Harley riders to enjoy the crowds and general good time .
The Thunder Ride is on Sat morning departing from Events Centre.
Sorry, Ernie can't make it this year

Why in hell would anyone want to ride with wankers/tossers/tuggers/pretenders like that anyway?

Because just like with anything there are only a very small percentage that think like that and they are probably newbies to harleys themselves. They get a little over zealous like people new to religion and KiwiBiker.

Why do they join those studded and tasselled groups anyway ? Isn't "freedom" all about individuality? Or is someone going to say "freedom is about making your own choices, even if that involves riding in conformist groups with oppressive rules. "

Don't get me wrong, I like some HD models. It's just the "religion" that goes with them that irks me.
... or have I got it wrong about H.O.G. ?

I think you have got it wrong!
Its a perception given by a few who are one eyed, and have ridden nothing else.
There are posers in every one make club / group that can't see beyond their front fender, but thank goodness the larger majority ride for the freedom & adrenalin it gives us. :2thumbsup

Becuase they is knob-ends.:done:

Though I'd be the last person to have any insight into the HD marketing cult . I haven't worn a Harley shirt since the day I saw a group of instant bikers all dressed up in the full generic biker costume stutting around like peacocks..., Johnny Rebs and Bandanna's included.

I use my bike to ride away from large groups of people and built up areas, Not to congregate in large groups in built up areas.

The bikers I know (some current HOG members) refer to the more commonly observed HOG members as 'RUBS' or 'Squeakies'. Rich Urban Bikers or Squeakies in reference to their shiny new leathers. My mates have little to do with them and only remain members for the annual pissup, discount on parts (as small as it may be) and the contact with like-minded HOG members who don't do tassles and studs. There are quite a few sub-groups under the HOG umbrella and some good folk among those groups, many ride big k's annually too, often overseas. Squeakies they ain't.

The Harley-Davidson Motorcycle is the World's Most Traveled Motor Vehicle

In a historic world first, Kay and Peter Forwood’s Harley-Davidson motorcycle has traveled to more countries than any other motor vehicle in the world.

Their Harley-Davidson motorcycle - a 1994 Electra Glide Classic (vehicle number 1HD1DJL14RY502784), has ventured through every internationally recognised country of the world. Many machines have circumnavigated the globe as aeroplanes, boats, cars and motorcycles and a few individual machines have visited more than half the world's countries, but only this Harley-Davidson has been to every internationally recognised country.

The World's Most Traveled Motorcycle has visited over 357 countries, states, territories, isolated parcels, islands, atolls and disputed territories.

The Electra Glide Classic was purchased new in 1994 and it has now been ridden a total of 515,000 km both in Australia and around the world. 490,000 km were recorded outside of Australia on the motorcycles journey across the world.

Kay and Peter’s journey spans some 12 years, beginning in Australia on the 3rd of February 1996 and still continues today. Details of the journey around the world are meticulously recorded at http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/forwood/ The Web site profiles their journey with descriptions, images and maps of all 357 countries, states or territories they visited. For the Harley-Davidson enthusiast it is a site that records a unique couple who truly “Live the Dream”.

Sitting here at work (on State Highway 1) and even with my earphones in listening to rock music I can still hear the constant rumble of bikes cruising through on their way to Welly.

I hope the group of about 50 bikes that headed south through Levin a couple of hours ago made it to Wellington all right. The other half rang to say about two minutes after they passed his work, sirens went off and police and fire headed south. No accident report has come through from the police, so hopefully they weren't involved with whatever it was.

What are they going to do all weekend though? It's RAINING!!!

I always wondered about those tassles... so they're kind of a sign for the other mincers... makes sense.

I was standing in a bank queue in Waikanae watching them all roar through the lights on SH1. Very impressive. Then the lights changed and some grizzled old buffoon decide he would use his bike to block the traffic that now had the green light and the Hardleys just kept roaring through. Wound up with a B train straddling the main trunk line... how the driver managed to resist the urge to just smear the silly old prick all through the intersection bewilders me.

Great PR coup for motorcycling though. :spanking:

Many are staying at the Bay Plaza Hotel up the road from me - guess they won't be going far lol, may mean they have to put on wet weather gear and that would hide all their useless gucci gear. The tassles really do my head in lol.

I doubt I could lower myself to get dressed up in their gear for a joke and try and act the dumb blonde, giggle and flutter my eyelashes - fk I can't do that normally - alot of MONEY would have to change hands lol.

Easy the best entertaining rally I have attended, met lots of friends from all round NZ and the US. Beer at $ 3.00 a can was enjoyed by all , get annoyed at other bike rallies paying to much. Another patch to put on the jacket with all the others but still not into the secret handshakes.

No doubt about it; beaten, yes, and I have to admit that with decades of drag racing under my belt some wins and losses have come about by a lot less than one 100th of a second. Yes, beaten, and I would never make the claim that HD's can beat Buells. Totally different animals.
