Calling all kwaka owners!
I'v got gthe new kwaka ninja 2008 model and she handles like a dream. However, as with every bike, she has her little gliches. She makes an odd whining noise wen she's been parked for a while, similar to a cat's meow. First time i heard it, i actually thought there was a cat stuck under there! :eek5: When i took her for servicing and asked about it, they told me that it's a gliche with the model and that the sound is it releasing pressure from the gas tank.
What i wanna know is if anybody has encountered this problem before, and if so what u'v done about it. As cute as it is, it is a waste of gas that i work hard for! :argh:

My 600 does it too. I was under the impression it was just pressure inside the gas tank venting out. I have never found any gas actually escaping anywhere. It happens more so when the tank is full than when it is near empty.

My mates 08 does it too. It's not releasing gas, just pressure from the vacuum builds up when burning petrol/petrol changes temperature.
Thought his bike was giving me a warning about something when I took it for a demo spin...

Yep my 08 600 does it too! So now I now.And I thought it was just slowly releasing its breath from all the dodgy cornering I do!!

My '08 250 does it, too. Thought it must be the tank, usually happens when I pick it up and hear the petrol swirling around.

LOL ok so now we know we aren't alone, having coversations with our kwaka's. But have you guys tried anything to get rid of it? It's not exactly annoying, but it does draw strange looks sometimes :p

apparently this kind of whine is standard to all late model Kawasakis, or so they tell me

Never experienced it myself but then I only usually fill up before a long ride so it doesn't sit for long. Must try it though:whistle:

Mate's 08 ninja 250 also meows and was told the same thing.. don't think any fuel is escaping though....
If anything, it could be mistaken for a very modern anti-theft alarm!

my 08 650 does it, we should park em all up together and see if they have a conversation.

i do believe it is the gas evaporating
leave yours out in thew sun on a hot day and see what happens
when kunoichi left hers out in the sun it went of and didnt stop (how much air can it suck in)
simple physics heat makes things expand and fuel has a very low vapor point
ie gas is evaporating and the resulting pressure increase is escaping.

You could try widening the pressure release hole in the cap?
It might be a fancy valves so I don't know.

Use the search, it's not a gliche, Kawasakis meow, and that's the way we like them.

Yeah, I went for a ride with someone who had the '08 Ninja, and when we stopped his was doing the same thing, as they all do.
Like others have said, when you ride the fuel level drops, creating a vacuum in the tank, which equalizes, then when you stop, some of the heat from the engine transfers into the fuel in the tank, which causes some to evaporate and expand, which causes pressure inside the tank, and the noise is the excess pressure venting slowly, to equalize again.
Like when you take a drink from a disposable coffee cup that has a plastic lid with too small a hole, and it squeals every time you take a sip.
If it really bugs you, you could just open and close the fuel lid, which will temporarily stop it doing that, because the pressure will instantly equalize.
It's not a big deal though.

Hell, if we meet up on a ride one day and I turn the Buell off, you'll freak out at the sound coming from the cooling fan. It's LOUD! (but necessary).
Standing joke: "Look out, she's going to blow!"
All part of the charm.

Being black mine does it alot, first thing in the morning till last thing at night some days, life wouldn't be the same without it singing away in the background. Anyway, a remedy with pictures here: http://www.kawiforums.com/showthread.php?t=107901

Thanks for all the info guys. Atleast now i can provide an explanation as to why my bike is meowing at passers by. (as u can imagine, wen i got that dreaded question, the best i could do was 'i ran over a cat' joke...not particularly funny either). LOL, it would be interesting to meet up and have a chorus of bikes chittering to each other! :D
