Heya guys and gals,
I don't post too much but I am a serial lurker. Time has come to announce something I hope you will find interesting:
The first episode of our web tv series "RIDE" is now online. The first episode is a scooter related one (mods feel free to move to scoot section if you must) but entertaining to everyone... or I sure hope so. Next one will be a more motorcycle biased segment.
Check it out here: in High Res
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jbN7ZQT32CE&fmt=22
There is also a low res version for you 56kers out there.
Figure it is also as good a time as any to let you know about our fledgling sister site to www.thescooterreview.com unsurprisingly enough called www.themotorcyclereview.com please check it out but cut us a bit of slack it only went live a couple months ago so there are only a dozen or so reviews up and the layout is still in a state of flux. Comments welcome and appreciated hope you like it.

Good take on things. Almost feels a bit like Ketzal is trying to be a bit like Jeremy Clarkson, but ends up half way between Clarkson and the Hampster, but with really dry humour - kind of hard to take serious! Atleast you guys are getting out there and doing it!
Get 'white trash' out there doing some reviews for you, he's the man around here. Also choppa knows his way around a race track pretty well, he'd be worth talking too.

Great vid. I was not expecting something so professionally done in all ways - editing, music, acting. The presenter is excellent. Overall, for a first effort I'd give a top rating.
One problem I have with the video is the content: so little technical info was given about the scooter or other scooters. Sure, they are not complicated machines but what about maintenance, servicing costs, etc? Also some legal/rules should have been covered: Was it legal to pass on the left? (probably as it is not a motorcycle) Do you need a license (not for a 50cc). Would you get a parking ticket where the scooter was parked? What are the disadvantages of a scooter (bad weather for a start). What protective gear is needed?
Yes I know it was less than 10 minutes long and only a 'promo' video, but what I am saying is I hope in the future you don't 'dumb us down' and rather give some technical and legal information, along with comparing the motorcycle/scooter with others of the same type.
When your show is up and running at full length (30 minutes?), include a section on viewer input - read emails or play audio or even video clips sent in by viewers. If you post here on KB what the topic of the next video will be, I'm sure you would get interesting comments.
Congrats on a great start.

Thanks for the initial impressions guys, Im glad you all found the production professional. We do have a bit of history of this kind of stuff with 6 years producing the High Octane series of DVD's (biggest seller of it's type globally... boy racer stuff haha) and One full length feature film under our belts.
The presenting is essentially the same style as on the high octane stuff as it was a successful style. I am glad you mention Top Gear because this is obviously along a similar vein... targeted at normal humans as entertainment along with supplying some info on the way. This is why there is less of the tech stuff, it is available on the parent websites (the scooter/motorcycle review) and isn't very interesting to the broadest range of viewers. We want this to be to 2 wheels what Top Gear is for cars, motorcycle content that is accessible and digestible by the general public. I hope we can get that balance.
Have to be careful quoting laws, regulations etc re parking, passing, licensing as we have a very global user base and these all vary greatly country to country.
This episode of RIDE is not a promo, we are a web based entity and will always aim to promote our product via that medium. You may at some stage see the series on the boobtube but that is purely secondary. For now most of the segments will be between 6 and 15minutes long currently with a maximum of 10mins simply because youtube is the easiest hosting mechanism and 10 is currently their max number.
Keep the input coming, will take it all on board and try and make the next ep even better:Punk:

Ketzal Sterling, man you're looking old.
Ideas - old versus new - GSXR1000 K1/2 Vs K8 - this would be good to see just how far things haven't progressed.
600 group test - the 600 is the benchmark sports bike, and this years range of choices are pretty neat.
R1 big bang - the sound would be neat.

I thought it was excellent. Well done on a great start. The motorcycling world is a rich vein of largely untapped material and if you can keep it accessible to Joe Public with factual but entertaining presentation and retain some of what the dedicated biker wants to you should go far with this. I look forward to the next instalment. Good luck...

dont have access to utube at work, will look at home, but are you going to do a track review like on topgear? were we can see excatly whats what.
- if you do interviews maybe you can get the guest to do a lap on a mini bike - would be funny as.

Haha yeah we will definately be doing at least a couple of track battles, obviously a supersport 1000cc one along with a 600cc one most likely. Then you never know what weird and wonderful stuff we will come up with... Unicycle racing perhaps... or mobility scooters... who can tell... we are a bit odd!

Great start guys well done,
Im a fan of the old High Octane series and its a very similar sort of humor.
Just a point though , you say that the average communter would save $6k+ through having a scooter. Many peoples commute would be on a motorway and wouldnt be able 2 do this on a scooter (of that size anyway).
But thats just being picky.
Good effort, cant wait to tune into the next one!

Nice work, but it would be nicer if you wouldn't resize SD video up to 720p and waste my cap.

Needs some skids and some jumps oi
Del Fuego
10th February 2009, 19:21
Haha plenty of skids and jumps etc available already, we are trying to bring something to the market that is a little different...
However, no telling when we will start seeing how far you can fire a busa out of a cannon or some such, the more budget we put together the more stuff we can blow up... I miss blowing things up... soon:ar15:

Is there a fair bit of cost involved? If you want to do bike reviews I'm sure you'll be able to find willing people on here. Heck, im sure they'll even abuse their own bikes for you if you ask nicely :2thumbsup

Yeah they do cost a bit to produce. The advantage is that we end up with a good quality product, editing, camera rental, locations etc, etc all cost money and it adds up. We are pretty good at doing everything on a shoestring but the more excitement we want the more it costs...
Explosions are expensive, as are Western Australian desert crossings on sports bikes as are even non ridiculous but interesting stories...
But as is always the case the more we do the more likely businesses are to get involved. As with all things it is a slow progression but we are getting there.

Verrry nice short.
Although some of your statistics are pushing it a little bit...
$360 per year running costs for a scooter? That's far too cheap.
A little bit too optimistic about the whole riding a scooter thing I thought... as much as I'd like to see more people do it.
It's interesting you've made the video more international, but can you at least write "Litres" instead of "Liters"? :bleh:

haha, yeah well the bulk of our traffic comes from the US so you will see quite a bit of their odd spelling... it irks me too but you will quite often find different variations of spelling through the site... Colour/color etc
Obviously we try to give a balanced viewpoint on the pro's and cons of both forms of transport, however we are in the two wheel market so always a bit more fair in that direction. Those figures are pretty much right on the money for the yearly costs for a moped, traveling average sorts of kms.
glad you liked it though

Couldn't be bothered wasting bandwidth to watch a scooter review. :zzzz:
