The Auckland Champs are back again, the Pukekohe Motorcycle Club are hosting the Annual Auckland Motocross champs at Mr Motorcycles Raceway in Harrisville on the outskirts of Pukekohe.

The famous Doug Smith prepared race track has undergone more changes making for a technical and challenging track, with more of the back section in use and the new roller section the track will provide challenges for even the most talented riders.

Saturday hosts the juniors and vets competition, Leading the charge in the 13-16 years class will be NZ fastest junior woman Courtney Duncan on here # 4 CR85, the boys will have to watch themselves as Courtney nearly took out the Auckland title, only a last race mistake let the title slip by, with the form she has shown this year it will again be up to the boys to keep up, Chasing hard will be Hamilton Suzuki rider Dane Russell and Helensville Kawasaki Evan Hood’s, both these boys have good local knowledge and will be at the pointy end of the field.

The 11-12 years 85cc Class will be hard not to back current NZ champ Brandon Tipane on his KTM85, Brandon has been nearly untouchable in this class, but with kids form all around the North Island Brandon will have to be on his game,

The 125 Classes will be always good to watch as the guys wring the necks out of the, watch for local Clevedon’s Joel Doeksen on the Doeksen Racing Space frame KTM125, Also a rider that could be one to watch on the hard pack Harrisville is New Plymouths Campbell King on his CRF150, the little four stroke may be smaller in size than the 125’s he has to compete against but he will still be one to watch.

Vets also compete on Saturday and it will be not one to miss, Darryll King continues his preparation for the world vets champs taking on Local Club Sponsor and club hotshot Craig Brown on his Mr Motorcycles KX450F, and watch Puke Club Life member Tony ‘Yoda’ Cooksley, he punts his # 2 Yamaha YZ250 2 stroke better than most guy half his age.

Sunday brings out the Big guns with Team Honda bringing the big guns in, Timaru Justin McDonald’s, Tauranga national number 2 Peter Broxholme and fresh from dominating the Valley Champs Luke Burkhart, Team Yamaha has its big guns with the King Brothers Darryll and Damian ready to do battle, National # 4 Nick Saunders will be there on his Location Holmes Team West Kawasaki, with Brad Groombridge running 2 classes on his Team Green Fly Racing KX F’s. KTM is well represented with Black Gillard back on the orange beasts in the 250 class, and Mason Phillips and current NZ Junior champ Ethan Martins flying the flag as well, Don’t discount Matt Prumm on the KTM125 as well.

Racing starts at 10 both days, late entries will be available,

More info and full class lists available on www.pukemx.com

Will be signposted from the Bombay Motorway off ramp, gate fee $10 both days.

Excellent post there Scott....

Any of you contemplating a day at the races...GO!! This is a very well run event at a spectacular track. If you only go to one MX this year, make it this one.......

Hmmmmm.. Junior world champs at Taupo might fit that description too.......

Yep Phil was telling me bout this at thunder last Fri. Harrisville is one of the best NZ mx tracks IMO (not that I've riden loads of them), well groomed and well run so if i'm not working this weekend I'll be there for sure. Wanna see DK rocking the 2T's haha

Sounds pretty interesting.

Could form up a posse? What do you guys reckon? Sat/Sun ? Which day? I kinda like watching the lites, but the 450s etc would be wicked to watch given the riders involved.

I'm probably the only guy in the civilised world who's dumb enough to want to get out of working on stage at Topgear Live, so I can take the kids and camera to Harrisville on Sunday.... :weird:
