View Full Version : The Scoot, up for sale...

I've logged back into KB after a few weeks of sorting my shit out, and I've had quite a few questions about the fact that I have Scoot up for sale on tardeme.

I've been aware for a while that 1000cc of happy endings and the general road conditions here aren't the best combination; when I'm off the bike I plan my rides with restraint, but the reality is that once on the bike, things become, well, less restrained.

I love riding, but I needed to make some changes.

I have an older 1000cc bike (CBX), and I'm going to be using that to do the commute, and with a lot of help from some good bastards on this site (Cajun and MotoGirl, VTec, Glen H), I've managed to build a GSXR600 K5 on the smallest budget ever seen in motorsport. In other words, I'm taking it off the streets.

I think for each of us, there's a moment, or a point where you have to decouple from activies - for me the moment has come as I've realised that riding on the street is just plain stressful, and that track time is more fun (and I enjoy it so much more).

Riding with the GSXRTrace's, Toto's, and GIJoes has been good, it has reasserted a baseline of normalcy (this will only make sense to the people on this site with litre bikes or bigger). Your frame of reference is never the same; the jump from a 600 to a thou is bigger than most people realise, and it's in the way that larger capacity bikes pull at speeds where the 600 has already run out. When that becomes your baseline, then you've got to either step back, or take up base jumping (where you throw the chute ahead of yourself and catch it in mid-air for that little extra rush...).

There's also an element of not being able to afford to live with three bikes, pay the mortgage, and achieve paying for solid food...

So, there you go.

How are you doing? Yeah, time out is good, reflection is good for the soul. I went a changed some stuff that's been bugging me for a while, got back into the gym and cycling again (lost 7kg so far, and feel better for it), and started addressing some stuff as well (baggage).

Thanks for your kindness mate.

Theres nothing wrong with not being able to handle a proper 1000cc bike, but you should just come out straight and say it :Pokey:

I've used that justification for not using the CBX for almost 10 years now...

Yeah, I'm hading over my man card as I write this. 400 kilometers out of a bike tire, I guess that's a warning sign of not being able to cope with the power...

She's a pretty old thing. Has one or two small mod's (just can't help myself). She purrs (where Scoot howls).

Edit - what's an a100?

Dont go there . Its a two smoker. If you have trouble containing the hoon instinct on a four stroke, a two smoker would be way too much for you to handle. Especially an A100, real hoon material them.

400 kilometers out of a bike tire

Add a zero to that and I'd believe you, at the moment it just sounds like you're trying to out do skidmark in the 'it's really possible' stakes. Or have you been running shinkos?

And that Sidmark comment... Low!

Nothing like those figures. (Maybe in another 20 years).

But I know that Mike knows that I know his bike is worth way more than that to him.

cbx on sale for roughly 25 recently, not in the best of nick so I assumed a fully restored one was worth a bit more. You're from that era so you will know best :msn-wink:. *Ill know what the price is in 20 years, you probably wont:msn-wink:*

Nope, I'm exaggerating. A week of riding into work, one SH16, and a couple of other little loops. The tire has splits running transversely across the carcass. It's fucked.

I haven't got more than 2000 k's out of a rear since I've owned her. Shall I send photos? Who the hell gets 4000 k's out of a 190 on the rear of a GSXR1000?

Hi James, lets ride this weekend!

Umm, not even close to being proud, more ashamed for all the right reasons, hence getting rid of her out of my life. I'm too old to brag about stuff, and if I was going to brag I'd brag about something good and meaningful.

It's academic what it's worth, I've been worried about dropping it, plus cleaning between the fins is a bitch. Mine is mint, and it's had lots of thoughtful work done on it - it has lots of history to me. It's never going to be for sale, even if I was about to lose the house, at least I'd have my bike...

I'm with you, but I couldn't bear the thought of all that ash going into my combustion chambers (plus have you ever tried balancing carbs on a CBX?). Instead, she's getting buried with me. Is that sort of similar to self control. I mean, hey, I have lots of self control, but my right hand has a mind of it's own. I was going to get it amputated, it gets me in sorts of trouble, but if I followed that rule I wouldn't have a dick either...

If its got two wheels, a motor and you can ride it - of course! The hornet swarm is but an excuse for two wheeled souls to get together. Variety is the spice of life innit?
