So I have a CBR 600, I am considering a few minor additions. Now I read the articles and magazines erc, but lets face it, they are trying to sell a product, I figured you guys out there are the ones who have been there done that.
Of course a good thorough once over from the shop to make sure carbs are balanced etc etc etc before I go to modify, but am thinking of things like a muffler ( a nice throaty sound without being too obnoxious would be nice). Im not interested in trying to build a speed demon death machine with 300 rwhp or anything, but Id like to know what relatively easy mods I can perform without spending a ton of cash or risking a blown engine. I also want to know what effects the mods will have (eg, will a muffler require the carbs to be rejetted and balanced etc?) and do you guys think these mods were worthwhile or noticeable on your bike? sorry, I know this thread has likely been done to death, but Im askin anyway!!!

im going down a tooth in the front sprocket and up a couple in the back. very cheap and should change the characteristics of the bike a fair bit.

Not sure of the age of your bike but if its getting on a bit money spent on suspension, swingarm bearings etc will be worthwhile.

its a 1991 vintage, but in immaculate condition, got it due to a matrimonial . . . . . last owner was not happy to be saying goodbye, Im quite sure he would have rathered I paid him half as much and took his mrs! hahahaha.
The sprockets sound interesting, thatll slow your acceleration down at the botton end but increase top speed right?
Anybody recommend any brand or type of muffler? I want a throaty burble, not obnoxious, dont want to annoy everybody!

I'd modify the meatbomb atop the bike, spend the money on advanced training, track days, and maybe some one on one tuition with some of the mentors here...

Then I'd do the gearing, put a nice Yoshi on it, then I'd do the ECU upgrade, and then mess with fueling forever, then I'd put Yoshi cam adjusters in, then I'd fuck around some more, then I'd really go to town... Oh, right, then I'd realise that I'd gone to far and start to detune it and wish I hadn't the spent the money, so I could have blown it on a weekend in Vegas that I couldn't tell my wife (if had one) about. :)

The gearing is a great idea. And get a suspension set up. Get some nice brake lines, and make sure you have nice pads and you've given the calipers a clean.

sell it. Buy a thou. Scare yourself shitless. Trade the thou on a sensible bike.

Yuo have singlehandedly kept the economy going.

Buy smaller wheels and you can sit on 140K/h all day w/o getting a ticket. ;)

Great bike! I loved mine when I owned it.

Pipe and good air filter is all you'll need, breathe better and nicer sound! Nothing wrong with the performance of those motors.

As suggested by others spending your dosh on suspension will be money well spent especially if it still has the original rear shock in it. I think i replaced mine at about 50,000kms (should have done it before then really)

Standard gearing is fine on those, I wouldn't bother changing that.

Oh, and buy a spare regulator/rectifier bound to blow some time! I went through 2 on mine (80,000 miles)

great, any advice on brand of shock to look for, and what sort of price range should I be expecting?

I loved mine heaps. My 2 cents add a scorpion can, they sound like sex on a stick and if you do the intake it gives you a bit more grunt (not much but noticeable).
