Auckland enjoys hottest day ever on record.
A MetService weather station at Whenuapai Air Base has recorded the hottest temperature reading ever in Auckland.
Temperatures peaked at 32.4 degrees Celsius during the 3pm hour, equalling the previous high recorded in the Auckland Domain in February 1872 - 137 years ago.
Niwa climate expert Jim Salinger said today's reading was the highest since official Niwa records began in September 1868.
Auckland's previous temperature high this year was 28.2 degrees, on the North Shore earlier this month.
Weather analyst Philip Duncan says the extra hot weather was due to a sudden clearance of cloud in the skies along with a gusty northwest wind.
He says WeatherWatch.co.nz's thermometer in west Auckland recorded 34 degrees, fuelled by the hot northwester.
Mr Duncan says although humidity is lower today, the intense heat and sunnier skies means it feels much hotter - and a humidex reading of 38 was recorded.
South Island weather analyst Richard Green says far from Auckland's high, Christchurch is having its second coldest day of the summer. It was 12.8 degrees around 6pm and still raining.
Mr Salinger warned temperatures would be much cooler in Auckland with the arrival of wetter conditions during Friday and over the weekend.

32.4???
That all.
Its been 46 & 47 several times at my place in the last few weeks, out country, on my hill.
Even got a top class thermo to double check it against my fixed one.
I sometimes wonder if they take the temps in the wrong place instead of not the 'real' areas of the town/city etc.

It's good to know I wasn't just suffering because I'm new here!
It was a bit hotter than that in London a few summers ago, but much drier. Loving it today, I have my fan on in work just to feel a bit cold for a change! :D

Yea, but Dooly, you would have got your 46/47 with sunshine. The image I saw on the TV last night of Sweatsville looked hot, but I didn't see any sun.
What was it really like Sweatsvillers?

Hawkes Bay regularly has temp in the 30's. AFAIK, Dooly's recorded 47 deg was in the shade at his place! It can often be 35 in the shade of my favourite tree at our place.
At 32 deg, we are just thinking about removing our jerseys....

You don't get the humidity so much there though do ya ?
Sat here yesterday looking out at tropical rain, sweating like a rapist, thinking somethings missing here !

Not normally, but this last week has been farken horrible. Temps in the 30's, dropping to low 20's overnight and humidity of 90% or higher! Extremely energy sapping.....

I was out and about yesterday. On the bicycle, even. Glad to know that the txt I sent saying that the weather felt like southern China wasn't unjustified!
I wouldn't call it unpleasant, though. Just hot. It's fine and dandy if you stay hydrated and aren't in fancy clothes that you don't want to sweat into.
But there was a lot of sweating going on.
I wonder why the 'official' temperature readings are always so low. They seem to be a good five degrees below what you'll see on an actual thermometer at the time.

Hottest I've ever felt tbh, in NZ, anyway.
Humidity and sweat city.
First time ever we shut the place up and turned AC on cold, which pisses me off as I like the place open.

Nice day - I thought about undoing my leathers a bit at one stage, but didn't need to.
