What's this? A man who doesn't subscribe to the belief that Valentines day is a total load of crap and that it isn't just a made up day to line the pockets of retailers. Don't tell me also that you believe it is a symbolic day dedicated to celebrating your love and spoiling your special one :niceone: Hope you and Gabby have a great day too :sunny:

Actually, it's not!

Wikipedia tells me (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Valentine%27s_day) that Geoffrey Chaucer, in 1382, was the first to associate the day of St Valentine (which may or may not have been 14 February at that point) with romantic love.

So, while the greeting card industry may have capitalised on the day and had a hand in establishing it in its modern form since the mid nineteenth century, it does have a reasonably weighty history.

I learn something every day.

And, given the above, I think I might have to arrange a little something at short notice.

I knew of that history.

I've just been rather bored lately with comments I have heard from men who clearly would prefer that girls subscribe to the belief that it is a total crock, in order to assure that their women will not be too upset and shitty with them because they choose to make no effort on this day.

Happy Valentine's Day to all the lovers, the would-be lovers, and the lovers who can't be with their soulmates today. If there is no-one else to do something to make you feel spesh, then do something for yourselves, ok?

My son giggling on our bed this morning as he pulled tissue after tissue out of the box, and my hubby and I looking on in adoration was a perfect start to the day for me.

My girl is still in the garage :(

If I was in a relationship I'd be a bit O_o if my partner got me a present for Valentine's or did something for me. It's not embittered cynicism, but I like to spring surprises and nice stuff on my other half, rather than have a proscribed day for it!

By surprise I don't just mean :buggerd: ;)

No, I just spent the years before I discovered females memorising it.

No, I just spent the years before I discovered females memorising it.

That explains a lot. But if you memorised a dictionary I really do not want to know what you did with a thesaurus.

... if you memorised a dictionary I really do not want to know what you did with a thesaurus.

Time were tough back then, ye know. I used tae dream o' havin' a thesaurus. Because we were poor. My old Dad used to say to me, "Vocabulary doesn't buy you 'appiness, son".

:2thumbsup Great night was had.....:( Shame about the $45 parking ticket at the viaduct for being 10 mins late back to the car..... Those parking wardens (Wilsons) are not nice on a night like that.

I hope you all had a good night.

Our thoughts are out to those loved ones had passed away.
