Well done to that young fella:clap:................gonna be a lot of orders for the GSXR450's coming soon.
Taken from NZSBK.co.nz
Terry Fitzgerald led from flagdrop but Glen Williams went into the lead in the esses on lap 1. Terry repassed in the sweeper to lead for a few laps. Glen Skachill rode really well in third place. Skachill went into second on lap 2, then into the lead. What thrilling racing. Fantastic dicing with Skachill/Williams and Fitzgerald.
Pro Twins - Geoff Booth led from Sam Love for a couple of laps, then Sam Love took the lead. Geoff passed Sam again on lap 4, a very good race in this class. Sam took the win, with Geoff second.
Jason Easton retired on lap 4.
Glen Skachill broke the lap record twice, on lap 5 at 1.12:183 then in lap 6 at 1:12:059
Glen Williams clinched the F3 championship title (again) with his second place.

Great stuff Sketchy. Looks like you and Ozzy have a good partnership going. Will be great to see how you go at Puke as I reacon the bike has really good top end speed.
Lost count of how many times you broke the lap record. But its just a whisker over 12 secs now for an F3 bike! Incredible.

[ OFF TOPIC -sorry]
F3 is under protest - nothing to do with Sketchy but they just ignored F3 at Prizegiving. They read out who came where and that was it. None of them got to thank their sponsors, supporters, the club - nothing. If the protest holds (and I don't think it will) he will have won ALL THREE races. As I say - I don't think the protest will hold. But shit, they could of at least let the guys thank everyone in front of their follow racers.
Also Glen was picked for drug testing so it was hard for him to mingle after winning as well.
On top of all that (!) when they interviewed him after a 600 race (which he did straight after the F3 races) they cut him off as he was about to thank everybody. Yes, an MNZ 'official' did the interview.
Great going MNZ - biggest day of his life and they do this.

Pricks. But I think Glenn knows that the congrats from his friends and fellow racers mean much more than that shit. Still, he earned the right to stand up and speak, and it sucks that he was denied that.

Glen you are truely 1 very TALENTED rider and your performance on the weekend proved that not only to me but also to Ozzy and to all those who were there watching you race that you have what it takes when it comes to being their on top. You were spectacular to watch out there and I wish you all the very best with your racing for this year and look forward to seeing you back out there racing in our VMCC Actrix Winter Series. WELL DONE GLEN.:first::clap:

It sure was exciting to watch!
A real shame that he was "denied" his moment of glory by MNZ.
We got to mingle with some of the racers on Saturday night. Glen was one of them. I was most impressed with his "off track" behaviour too...a really nice young guy, modest, humble, friendly and easy to talk to.
All the best Glen.

Congrats as well to Avalon with 125 lap record.

it is very awsoem to watch the way you ride you carry a humendous ammount of corner speed but also how far you crank the thing over and it looks so smooth and not out of line at all consistently.
You suit riding the 450 more than the 600 maybe its because you are running an older 600 but the 450 you looked much more impressive and comfertable almost like you used to on a 125

I can't see their point - they want to be competitive on a 20 year old bike. I'm sorry, that'll never happen anymore. Ozzy27 has said he can convert any 600 into a 450 for about $1k...

Excellent, cue $30,000 R4.5's and GSXR450's in F3. Just what that fucked up class needs. Have you heard there's a recession on the cards?
Congrats to Sketchy and Ozzie tho for the sheer riding skills and innovation tho.
Competitive racing on 20 year old 400's? Well the Aussies make a damn good job (http://www.400racing.com/)of it.

Dunno if any of you lot can remember this far back but this exact same conversation was had about 20 years ago when F3 race winners were on methanol powered GPZ500 twins and lo n behold out came the first of the ZXR400's.
With great wailing a knashing of teeth the guys on their suzuki mpulse 400's claiming the ZXR would END F3 as a class

Yip,I can remember that far back.Tony Mcmurdo won the first F3 championship on an 85 GSXR400 switching too a GPZ 500 for the last round at Manfeild too hold out a late challenge from Mike McCutcheon (GPZ500)before going on too win a string of Championships,The following year Mike Webb and Ernie Cudby turned up with a ZXR400 and FZR400 each and the three of them blitzed the feild. In those days the feilds were 30-40 strong and anybody with an Impulse would have been 20th back and anybody who thought they were gonna win a championship on 1 had their head in a very dark place.MNZ are not the people f#*king F3,Its the people with F3 bikes that dont turn up and ride them that are the culprits.Oh and yes the SV is dead as a championship winner if Ozzy decides too develop the 450 further.Think about it for a second,Newly built bike (less than 5 meetings) versus the two most developed SVs in the country with the 2 most experienced riders on them and its winning already (thanks in no small part to Glens riding). It was faster in a straight line and a far better handling bike than anybody could ever hope too make an SV (ask Glen W).Once its fully sorted anybody with an SV will be an also ran but then isnt that what everybody wanted too happen???Ring Ozzy now too get your order in pronto cause I know other people already have.

Mate then again dya remember the 250 proddy days-same time
Feilds so big we had A and B grade.
Dya think that would fill the grids back up??
A grade for the 650 twins and the fast 450's and B grade for the 400's
Or is there another reason people arent trning up to give it a go?

One word Frosty.DEDICATION,Back in those days you went racing and everything you had went into it,No flash vehicles, fancy leathers and helmets only the distributor backed riders had the good stuff and the rest of us made do with whatever we could get and you tried your hardest too beat them anyway just too prove a point(with limited success in my case)1990 National points race at Manfeild I finished 4th Behind Dave Cole,Glen Williams (the real one not the ginga imposter)and Ken Roberts with a fastest lap of 1.17.2 on a standard RGV 250L.That would have netted me 6th in the formula 3 race at manfeild last year against 80+ horsepower SVs and ZXRs and its not that I was that good as a rider but you just had too go that fast or you were nowhere,To get there you worked 80-100 hour weeks,No socialising outside of prizegivings,Nothing else mattered you lived for the next race meeting and NOTHING else.A classic example for me is Kris Shirriffs,Arguably the most talented member of the family on a roadrace bike,So why doesnt he race anymore?Because he wants too do other things with his life and he understands you cant do both,The guys still seriously fast on a bike but cant do it properly so doesnt bother. To put it simply,When you go to the supermarket too buy your groceries if you only take a $100.00 you know youre only gonna get $100.00 worth of groceries. So why would you think youre gonna win a $30,000.00 Championship with a $2000.00 pile of shit.Remember you only get out of life what you put in and weve all got 2 arms and 2 legs etc and if we apply ourselves like Glen,Terry and Ozzy do the same results are achievable with DEDICATION

Or is there another reason people arent trning up to give it a go?We don't have a problem filling the F3 field during the Actrix VMCC Winter Series, but we do run F3 and Protwin together. The way I see it - personal view - is that everybody wants to win on whatever they have. This leads to various classes being created to cater for different types of bikes.
Now we have people wanting new classes so their out-dated bikes can be competitive. I'm afraid some people will have to upgrade their bikes or just race as also-rans. Bike handling has moved on. The bike you race with has to also.
It is also worth remembering that Glen Skachill is a very good rider and that the Ozzy 450R suited his riding style.
I would be interested to see what would happen if someone else does the same thing to their also-run 600 production bike and entered F3. Will they still be an also-ran or a winner?

All you younger guys and newer members of this fraternity really really really need to read closely what Billy has written here.
Everything goes in cycles in this life and the arguements being raised about the class falling apart and all that because you can no longer win on your old 400s have been heard over and over again.
The laptimes run in 1989 and 1990 on bog standard 250 Proddy bikes (e.g. Wayne Picard 1:16:00 at old Manfeild, not as fast as it is now, in 1989 on NSR250) show that lap times have not moved a huge amount in the class (given that 250 bikes now run in F3).
But machines and machine development all move on and with more testing and experience Glen Sketchy would have the Ozzy bike in the 1:11's (and maybe the Moto Academy RS250 also with some better tuning).
The machines that McMurdo, Spargo, Cudby, Webb, McCutcheon and co built back in the day were things to behold and when Mike and Ernie imported the first ZXRs and FZRs everyone else who was not a front runner bitched about it cos their old shitters were now uncompetitive.
Ahhh, such is motorsport ay?
Just consider carefully where your skill, dedication and budget allow you to be then be happy with that, or do something constructive to change it.
Don't bitch here about not being able to win cos someone built a faster bike than yours.
Are you going to bitch next about banning riders that are faster than you too?
A last comment regarding what Skunk says. He is right, but recently in MX they were giving trophies to riders down to 20th place or something like that.
Do we want to do this?
Setting up a myriad of classes sets up the same situation where excellence, dedication, effort and talent are all diluted to make winning almost meaningless. Not to mention having only limited time at any given race meeting. Do we want to gravitiate to this situation?
Really, that is what trackdays are for, not race meetings.
Enjoy.

hey actually I made a suggestion a few years back.
we actually have a race class thats been created for all these old bikes.
Pre89 senior/junior. so we arent creating anything new
When the class was created it was for 15 year old bikes now of course its for 20 year old bikes.
Why not rejig that class?
Call it 15 plus.
Senior/junior. junior being up to 598cc senior being 600cc plus
Rolling year model birthday being january first of each year.
Then all the older bikes have a place to play with no complaints.

 Yeah right. Someone will always complain. But I like the Pre 89 and Pre 82 classes as they are. What we need is to define the next 'big step' point in motorcycle performance. What year after 89 did that happen? 98 maybe?
Set up a pre 98 class within Pre 89/82.

i do happen to remeber during the southern rounds of nationals people bitching about the size of the f3 field. is this gonna help????maybe, maybe not.
im not gonna get into another argument on all this but how many proper f3 bikes are there now?? not many!! (i can think of maybe 6) why??? what made the fields so sizeable back in the day???
