View Full Version : What bike gives you trouser feelings?

EatOrBeEaten

You know, the one bike that makes you go all irrational, that you'd love to have, the bike that gives you...trouser feelings.

For me, it's gotta be a Ducati 916. They've made better, but it came out when I was 11 and very impressionable and I'd still give up my first-born sprog for one.

The Hayabusa was a contender for a while, but they're too quiet for me ;)

This was mine.

The FXDWG Dyna Wide Glide.

I used to keep a HD catalogue in my bottom drawer and take it out late at night when I knew me mum wasn't going to snap me (moidasickles is evil and dangerous things, y'know) and this was the one I knew I'd have when I grew up.

Course, I haven't grown up yet.

I look at all these beauties of old and see them as i do a tasty young lass wandering across a crowded mall... All good and well to admire, but a tempestuous mistress should you sling a leg over. Such is the price of character and breeding i suppose.

I can appreciate the beauty, form, and function of most bikes to a greater or lesser extent. But at heart i know i am far too practical a lad. I want to be able to sling a leg over and fire her up, have her go all day, take what i can throw at her, and have her begging for more. (We are still talking about bikes, right?) My future baby will have a practical base, but i shall make her stir my loins in any way i see fit. When i'm done, chances are she will look nothing like her humble beginnings, and stir my loins with a simple glance ;)

I'm a lost cause - I don't get horny over bits of metal I'm afraid. I enjoy the ride more than the bike itself. If it can reach 160kph and handles reasonably well I'm happy.

For as long as I can remember, I have had a poster of the 916, beautiful bike, status helped by all the success in racing etc. Yet I wouldn't own one... not quite sure why, but I don't collect bikes, and will only have 1 or 2, so they have to tick all the boxes.

KTM 990SM
Wot e said... Yes, I have one, but for now, its definitely the bike that gives me the trouser feelings. Rather expensive... but owning your dream bikes is quite satisfying :wari:

Now, I also have to decide whether I'm going to take a race prepped KTM RC8 for a spin. Been offered, but its sorta like a black hole... you know you're going to be sucked in, and its not a good thing, but you sorta can't help yourself :weird:

I've ridden my dream bike, both the original 1340cc version and the Twin Cam 88 (the later model was nicer, of course).

Oddly enough, it was everything I expected it to be, and I loved every moment of it. Aren't fulfilled dreams generally supposed to have more ambiguous and ironic results?

Aren't fulfilled dreams generally supposed to have more ambiguous and ironic results? One would at least expect it to not live up to the fevered imaginings of a callow youth. Anticipation seems to be the best part of longing fulfilled.

There's something wrong with me - I'm now in a position to test-ride almost any of my former dream bikes, yet I can't be bothered.

i stand corrected. Was thinkin of this earlier and remembered the feeling that stirred when i first saw / read about the MT-01.
1700cc of V-twin BALLS in an upright beastie, the best of both worlds in my opinion
I think this excerpt of a review (http://www.motorbikestoday.com/reviews/Articles/yam_mt01_test.htm) sums it up nicely

# The bike has a slightly disturbing tendency to make the rider produce bizarre whooping noises while going for the most dubious overtaking opportunities available in the certain knowledge that, regardless of the gear the machine is in, it will make the gap with time to spare.
# It sounds disturbingly like a large, powerful outboard motor, spitting farting and burbling on the over-run. At low speed the sound pressure, even with earplugs in, is slightly uncomfortable as you crack the throttle open and your ears pop from the sudden vacuum.
# It’s huge. Until you get on it, when it shrinks. Ooh err.
# It has the comfiest seat ever made. And that’s official.
# It has fantastic brakes.
# It handles like a sportsbike and doesn’t weave around high speed sweepers even with the throttle pinned to the stop. Though the back does start to slide.
# Small children point and stare when you coast by, and start crying if you accelerate. If you roll off the throttle they get blown over by the back-blast.
# Cats and other small mammals explode if they enter the exclusion zone around the exhaust area.
# I think I rather like it…

Honda LEAD with a race prepped XR500 engine and a big, big COBY exhaust... I don't care how, it'll just happen ok?
ZX 14 in white w/ black rims.
Any race prepped 250cc 2-stroke.
1125CR in white with blue trim.

1x Noise machine, check.
1x Daily ridden, check.
1x Track bike, check.
1x Weekend bike, check.

Yeah but it had a Honda Rune in it which means no precedent was set (cept maybe for a scatter gun approach)

The Terblanche penned 749/999's suprisingly enough. When they first arrived on the scene it was quite a disappointment, looking back it that was only in comparison to the Tamburini designed bikes

Then I'd be happy.

Then after the various incarnations the 998r in black still makes the hairs on my neck stand up, its beautiful, regardless of reliability, wrist pain and not being suited to the road, if the motorcycling heavens parted and motorcycle jesus asked what I wanted out of all ever made it would be that
