View Full Version : Awesome Nationals Weekend.

Well what an AWESOME weekend I had. Got to Feilding around 7pm Friday night with just over an hours drive up from Waikanae. Went straight to the Raceway Motel where I was staying for the weekend and unloaded the car went out and got some tucker then had a couple of quiet drinks then turned in for the night around 10.30 wanting to get a good night sleep knowing I had a fairly busy next 2 days in front of me.
Got to the track at 6.50 am where I went straight to the sign on office waiting for sign on to start which did 10 minutes later.
Once sign on was finished and riders briefing was over it was into the Practice sessions which all classes had 20 minutes of.
The weather was kind to us for the whole weekend without seeing any sign of rain for the 2 days which was fantastic for the EXCELLENT racing that was watched by those who turned up.
I can truely say I dont think there would have been too many spectators who went away for the Nationals feeling disappointed with the racing as it was Spectacular to watch especially the 2 races of the Superbikes on the Sunday which could have been any of 4 riders who were out there competing for that 1st place position.
I would like to take this opportunity to Congratulate all the riders who entered the Nationals and also to the Vic Club members who got out there and gave it their best shot you did the Club proud.
I look forward to seeing all of you back out there in our VMCC Actrix Winter Series for 2009 with the 1st round being at Taupo on May 16th
WELL DONE GUYS.:clap::first:

Yeah I would have to say I was very dissapointed with the lack of support from the local riders to boost the class numbers

I have heard quiet a few stories as to why some guys didnt enter and its purely because ot tuff times many are going thru and for many who have lost their jobs and also have been cut back working hours. Most of our entries were from guys who seemed to have a few sponsors against their names and for those of you who do make sure you hold onto them as they are purely worth their weight in gold for your to persue your love for racing.
Please be understandable to those who weren't out there and yet would have loved to have been if money had of allowed them to be as we all know how much of an expense it is to alot of us and not all of you out there are in the same boat.

It was spectacular racing and if The VMCC run another one we will need to figure out how to get more entries in all classes.
From the organisational point of view there are a couple of things we could do better, but the crew of volunteers couldn't have been any better. Pit-lane, dummy-grid, flag marshals, clerk of course and the others in the control tower, gate keepers and ticket sellers, over-night security.... I hope I haven't missed anyone, but YOU'RE ALL FUCKING AWESOME.:first:

I pity those who got stuck at the gates - a few more volunteers and it would have been a couple of hours each.
Thanks to everyone who entered, helped or came through the gate. You all made it a great event.

It's not common just to Manfeild but I am dissapointed that after clubs like VMCC put on (from what I've heard) a very good series for their members (and others) during the year and then these same people wont support the club by entering the National event or helping out at it
From the organisational point of view there are a couple of things we could do better,
The one thing I would like to see would be sign in and scrutineering on the Friday
but the crew of volunteers couldn't have been any better
A very well run event, I was suprised how early we finished on the Sunday

From someone who was out on the track - thanks guys. Awesome event. Clear directions and the pit calls could be heard (we just couldn't tell if Skip was saying 'first' call or 'third' call :bleh:)
And thanks to all the riders too - none of the fast guys were pissed off cos we were out there, and most of the comments we had we along the lines of "good on yer for getting out there". So people - there's no excuse for next year - get you're arse in gear

Thanks Skip for all your hard work and organising this event since November last year. I must admit it was nice to just go in and do my job in the office and not had all the organising to do.
The racing was awesome, the atmosphere was great and it was great to see so many familiar faces again.

Bloody awesome weekends racing alright,Some of the best superbike action you will see anywhere in the world and anybody who wasnt there missed out on something special.Racing was excellent in all classes and the rider conduct was impeccable. It was bloody impressive too see guys like Sloan,Eddy,Rhys and Peter Tanner duking it out in their own little Privateers race and having a ball.Good on yas for getting out there and giving it a shot and the same too all the guys in the other classes who gave it a shot knowing they had no show of winning,You will all be richer for the experience and you all added too the spectacle of the meeting

I really enjoyed the weekends racing. I was fortunate enough to be part of one of the best racing battles I have ever had! (as well as dropping 2 seconds of my last year lap time!)
A group of four of us in race 2, I think everyone had at least one go in the front of the group, and there was at least one pass on everylap, it was hell for leather! It wasn't like we were going slow either lol!! Full credit to Jamie Galway, John Ross and Adam Chambers for the clean agressive racing that made my weekend awesome! I am honestly sooooo looking forward to Puke!
BRING IT ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !:laugh::Punk:
EDIT: ALso, talking after the meeting to my pit crew (ie ma and pa!) we all agreed what a well run smooth meeting it was, full credit to all involved!

How about this !!!
While I was on the gate a bunch of bikers turn up on Sunday about 11:00am look at the entry prices, have a bit of a discussion and then decide they didn't want to come in and rode off !!
I couldn't believe that anyone who actually rode a bike would get that close and then decide $20 was to much to pay.
A few people tried to bluff their way in, (which I guess is always worth a crack at any event, I managed to get into see Alice Cooper for free :) ) but most people didn't seem to mind paying the $20.
I only had 2 people complain (both grumpy old men)
One that nobody had TOLD him the programs where on sale at the ticket office (even though it was on the board along with the prices) and he had to walk back and buy one.
I said "walking is good for you", but he had no sense of humor and had a big rant about how every one was after his dollar but they didn't all get it. If I hadn't been the friendly face of motorcycling in NZ I would have told him to take his $20 back and fuck off.
The other was pissed off that I asked to see his pass when he came back into the venue after going to his car "this is the third time I have been asked" I said "I guess it is because you are so handsome I didn't recognise you" but he had no sense of humor either and just grumped off.
The girls on the ticket booth were great, running to the bikes with tickets and change so the riders didn't have to get off their bikes.
We had a great BBQ and a few beers on Saturday night, it was pretty good fun. We could do with a few more helpers next time so that we could see more of the racing.
So Kiwi Bikers -- If you are not in a team racing or crewing next year volunteer -
free entry, free beer and BBQ , a warm glow from accolades at the prize giving (maybe from booze or the sun I'm not 100% sure) and all for a couple of hours work if enough people put their hand up.
Oh.. you get petrol money as well and because my van is so ecumenical I had a bit left over for coffee's and hot dogs :)

Would have loved to have been there racing but this season was always a no go for the Nationals for us as we were committed for family reasons to a holiday back in Europe.
While I had planned to do Manfield there's only so much money in a season budget and when an entry for Paeroa was possible we decided to go there instead.
Will join the National grid at Pukekohe as are a few other first timers for the series and then hopefully do a full season including the South Island next term.

I'd say what an outstanding level of spectators!
I've not seen Manfeilds stands so full at a bike meeting since the World Supers back in 91. Fucken outstanding effort to all who made the effort to go and watch.

Yes the stands were full, but there were stands where the pit garages are now back in the superbike days.
Thanks to all the volunteers, Wharfy on the gate & the tireless Skippy.
I had a fantastic weekend swinging on sidecar #28 for Tracey Anderson in place of Kellie, the regular swinger who was doing jet sprinting on the weekend.
Scrivy was our pit bitch & clearly was getting too much adrenaline watching us (or maybe that was from something else) & became a pain in the arse,
so we will take an extra sidecar for him next time.
