Hi
Am going to get my full mid 09 and hopefully my dream bike later this year. Rather than joining Ulysses I was wondering if there were any other lady bikers in the Nelson region who like taking weekend rides or anyone who knows of a women's group in the area?
Cheers

Cool, also had contact from another lady who uses this site who lives in Nelson so we'll soon be having our own rallies eh!!! Short notice but if you're free this Fri, 27th a few of us are going to Picton and back round via Blenheim and the lakes. Meeting up with 3 riders in Havelock - be 5 of us maybe to Picton, then 2 or 3 back home. The other 2 are heading over to Wlg.

OK I've tried to firm this up now! Weather permitting - I'm not a rain fan either..
Mot riders meet at Hot Mamas 10am on Sun, Nelson riders meet Three Brothers corner 10am.
All meet at the Naked Bun, Mapua 10.30am. From there we'll go inland to Dovedale etc.. and stop for coffee at the Monterey Cafe, Orinoco Valley Rd. Ride to the end of the West Bank Rd and come back up it to get to Mot. For more details txt 021 120 4722 or just join us at those meeting points.
Hope to make this a regular event - monthly? This first group ride will be a start to see what others want out of a ride. Reckon we should set it for a certain Sun each month (1st, 3rd etc) and take it in turns to plan out a route. Be good to discuss. See you Sunday!

6th March 2009, 10:22
Just to clarify - 3 Brothers Corner, that would be at the dairy by the main round-about where to you turn right to head towards Mot when riding out of Richmond?
If there is anyone coming from Nelson central or thereabout and want to redevous before heading to richmond just message me.
vwgrrl
6th March 2009, 10:32
Yup that's right and there'll be 2 others meeting you there, that I know of. Mary & Clancy. I've sent them an email. There's one other woman I've sent the notice to but she works long hours and I'm not sure if she's free. I'd say that if there aren't more than 3 of you by 10.05 then get going!

Will be nice to have you in the neighbourhood Monie!
Wot do you gals think of doing the Tapawera / Glenhope circuit on the Sun, 5th of April for our next sprint?
As I doubt there are many places to eat unless we choose another cafe redevous point, maybe a pot-luck picnic at Hope Saddle lookout?

By the looks on the online AA mapping the Tadmore valley Road and Tadmore Glenhope roads are completely sealed so we would do them and highway 6/61 loop.
Jackies bike is too nice to have rocks thrown at it so we best stick to tarseal.
Am sure you, Topo and whoever else is keen could do a short trip via dry weather gravel one other weekend perhaps?

Sorry to be the one to bear bad news but part of Pigeon Valley & Dovedale Roads are gravel too, as it was part of the DK1000 too! Let me have a think and I will see if I can come up with any roads that are sealed :) Will have a think tonight better get back on with some work:shit:

I've been thinking . . . . :shit: my brain hurts now!
May be a trip up to St. Arnaud we would all meet at Kohatu Junction (by the old pub) then up Valley Road to Golden Downs (and for the adventurous types  there is a gravel road on the otherside of the river to Valley Road which could be taken if wanted) then on to Kerrs Hill Road on to Korere Top House Road and on to St. Arnaud for lunch/drink then back either via Kawateri Jucntion or back up Korere Top House Road and continue on that road until you get back on to Kohatu Kawatiri Highway and then either go our separate ways at Kohatu or continue on to Wakefield for a drink?
So how is that for an idea?:done:

Damn fine idea -was going to ask about Korere Tophouse Road meself re: gravel and steepness etc and was also just planning thoughts on petrol provisions for my completely tiny-tanked bike - but I'm all for it.
I'd prob like to come back via Kawatiri junction though - like the curves around Glenhope etc.
Sorry you had to hurt your brain.
Can't say I'm doin all that well at planning these things
Thanks for the help, Ms SUPER Topo !!

Don't worry my bike only has a tiny tank too, only 11 litres but it can do 200kms on that (that is including reserve :)), I think if you fuel up at Wakefield then again at St Arnaud you should be all good to get you back to Wakefield again :) Korere Tophouse road is fine, if you like the Glenhope then you will be fine :D

Yea it was a good ride and nice to meet you all. See there's been a lot of discussion since I last came on here (is there a way of being notified by email when there are postings on here?). The 5th is fine with me.. gives my leg time to heal! I haven't looked at a map to check exactly which roads you're talking about but when I came from the West Coast to St Arnaud in Jan that road was lovely. Might be one of the ones you're talking about which would be great. Look forward to the final decision. Will then post it out to others not on PC etc. Looking forward to it.. wish summer wasn't ending :-(

I am trying to be more of an active participant here! 5th April sounds good, as does the routing.. I have sent a txt out to the gals I know to tell them to put it in their diary with details to be confirmed nearer the time. Jill can't make it (again, and she's very disappointed!), Jackie, Kylie, Mary & Clancy have pencilled it in and I haven't heard back from the other 3 I txt.
Would like to do the Picton/Blenheim loop sometime, I hear it's a nice one.
And thanks, I did subscribe to the thread but I see that you only get one notification and no more after that until the next time you log in.. which I why I didn't see all those posts. That's OK. Will just try to log in more. On dial up it's a bit of chore being on the internet!
Oh and Ali (Burtha) - can you please post the details on the calendar when you're definite about the date? You never know, someone might see it who didn't see all this waffle :-) Cheers and have a great w/end.

Yes, we should do the Blenheim / Picton loop - but I know I will need to upgrade my bike before i could do it - and I will need to get my full at beginning of May first. Suspense is killing me here!

May I suggest you chose a spot to meet up after Richmond to keep it simple? There are 2 from Nelson and possibly 2 from Richmond apart from you. How about somewhere after the 3 Brothers Corner - can't remember what's just after the roundabout there on the way out to Kohatu but I'm sure you know???? BTW what does PM mean?!!!

Yea nice idea, my only reservation is the gravel road to the Naked Possum! Some of us care about our belts!! It was about 7kms if I remember rightly, or a bit more.. was there not long ago and thought.. mm.. would be a nice ride but.. instead of Naked Possum we could always just go over the hill and as far as Collingwood? Or even all the way to the Spit? There's a cafe there after all. I'm good for most w/ends. Jackie & I are thinking of a ride this Sat if anyone's keen? No concrete plans yet as she may be working. Opps I forget you guys can't ride on gravel :) and it's only about 1 - 1.5kms from the seal to the Possum. The Mussel Inn (in Onekaka) have great food and beverages too or the Pengiun (in Pohara) has good food :) If you are worried about gravel then you wouldn't want to go to the spit as it is gravel up to the Paddle Crab cafe there too!! But there is the Old School house cafe in Pakawa, which is good. So there are some ideas for you ladies ladies :wari:
I won't be out riding again until the 23rd as I have to go back to Christchurch on the 15th. Hope you and Jackie had a good :scooter: this weekend.

OK I'll have to fess up now, the 10th will be out for me as I'll probably be hungover! There's a women's dance on the Sat night and I doubt I'll be 'well enough' to go for a ride the next day, even if I curtailed my drinking (hey this is a once a year event ya know, the dance I mean!) I would still be tired from a lateish night so unless anyone's happy to move it to the Sat (9th) then I'll bid you a great ride and catch you next time. And yeah I forgot about the last gravel bit to the Spit. Like you say, Pakawau or Collingwood would be good stops to make. I suggest you regroup in Takaka before you head on to wherever you decide upon.
Or you could go towards Pohara, stop at the Penguin or something then ride along to the end where the road to Totaranui starts. Nice and curvy so a good ride and o so purdy.
Saw Sandy yesterday and she was asking when the next ride is. As long as she has a week's notice she can do either Sat or Sun generally she says.
See you at the run tomorrow - should be a good turnout. Speaking of which shall we try to hook up and ride together? I'm going over with Jackie's brother (Jackie's working) and anyone else from the Mot side? Leave Mot say 10.30? Who's going from this way? Mrs Jatz? Ms Topo? It's a great ride and obviously a good cause. Maybe I'll do a txt around.

I will definately want to meet up with ppl before the heli ride as it will be my first and I can gget quite dizzy and lost amongst a crowd!
As for the 10th, I think we should go with it, we can always do another a couple of weeks later when MsTopos leg is on the mend and VW has soothed her dance legs :)
If you haven't already, could you PM your email address?
Or go to the social group forum (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=101) and post your details up there so we can get in touch with each other for in-between rides etc.
BTW: If anyone is up for weekday rides, just let me know as being a housewife I am pretty flexible!
All my details are up on the social group forum (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=101) or you can just PM me.
Might go swap out my exhausts today to see what the hollowed out ones sound like !!!

ok, so after a quick email around, we are postponing the big group collingwood ride till possibly the 17th (yet to be confirmed).
this sunday a couple of us are still going out, weather permitting, and we will be leaving from the BP on Haven Rd in Nelson at 10am-ish - destination yet to be confirmed.
those up for it are still very welcome.

I've just posted up an event for the ride this Sunday (the 17th) for the ride to Collingwood - weather pending as forecast isnt surpose to be in our favour!
Plan so far is to leave Nelson 10am-ish from the BP on Haven Road, head to Mot via Richmond collecting people as we go. Regroup when we get to Collingwood and decide on our location for lunch then our return route home.
I sent out an email to our regulars earlier this week but have only heard back from a couple of you so touch base with me (Burtha via PM (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/member.php?u=15234)) or Jane on 021 120 4722 or email vwgrrl@clear.net.nz
All girlies welcome!

Hope you had fun in the mud Mrs J!
Sunday ride was postponed as metservice showed rain on the hills still just before the ride and weather still appeared uncertain, plus we still didnt have the numbers (for various reasons) to justify a long ride.
Sooo....
How about this coming Sunday (24th) for Collingwood?
