xyt brake pads

anyone tried xyt brake pads? ive seen them on trademe for $14.99 each end,

but quality may be an issue

pretty much yes, im broke as, and enjoy riding, unfortunately i ride hard, which means i wear things out fast, so if i can find something that i chew thru a few sets of each year like brake pads for cheap, then ill run with it

yeah well i thought it was hilarious. they also basically told me that there are no such thing as aftermarket ones. I was riding on steel backing plates and half way to desert storm so i just bit the bullet and paid the money

I've heard it's a good idea to get em hot early & then let them cool down & they last longer, could be urban legend.

I use some from the local shop on the front that last forever, my bike is @ a mates @ the moment, but all I can remember is they are red & $45, I did get some sintered ones from Cycletreads one weekend & they were shredded after one ride ( Dead Toad from memory ).

Vesrah do too. what i found so funny is that the same bike shop sold me vesrah fronts a month BEFORE they told me over the phone that they can't find any listings for any aftermarket pads for my bike. They must have ordered some rears in for someone who told them to get fucked after the pads arrived and the customer found out the price. I became their stock clearance sucker and i probably paid for the previous guys freight. lol. Fuck it, it's only money aye?

Just replaced both brake discs (metalgear) and I was tempted by those xyt's too but ended up going with Goldfren pads $30-35 (Made in Czechoslovakia) from another TradeMe seller. The random sounding 'xyt' brand name and price put me off. I'd be asking seller if the xyt comes in different grades. Quality wise I'd be keeping an eye on not just rate of wear, but even-ness of wear as this will screw up the rotors pretty quick.

Can't say I'm feeling overly happy with the goldfrens yet though (I got K5s), had a weird rear brake boil-up and fronts have just started to squeal like pig. I don't coast into corners so doubt I'm being too gentle on them. Probably not bedding in right although I roughed them up a bit before installing. Had premiers before that and no probs.

I couldn't find any industry standard on pad hardness but maybe just a stronger flavour goldfren would suit your riding better eg. K5-LX?
I'm wondering about trying softer ones for more bite on front. You don't happen to remember which Goldfren grade you've used before?

I found info on below page a bit confusing as the table above chart seems to show conficting info.

sneaky pricks the guy here tryed to tell me that no one makes a gasket set for a ktm 200 and the only way to get the gaskets was to buy them individually ffs

for the same reason im looking at doing the same.... too many bullshitting dealers out there trying to suck you dry and telling lies.

im not saying all dealers do this, but i know a lot that do.

There really are some crap pads out there. For the KTM's the stock Toshiba pads are by far the best rear pads you can use but they are expensive (but I still think the poster above got ripped from memory of the last time I bought them).
Golden Fren seem to last me about two rides, waste of money for me.
Xyt sounds like shyt in Chinese, take that how you will but I have not tested them for myself.
I've used the supposedly rubbish Metal Gear pads because they came free when I replaced my discs. I was pleased with how they lasted and they were free!
But when replacing my pads these days I use Premier full sintered pads and they have lasted well and not too grabby although they don't seem to have the stopping power of the later model KTM brakes but that might be the age of the whole system. And seeing as everyone else on here seems to be pushing their own barrows these days I do sell these along with other parts, but I prefer to have pickups only as its not worth my time to take calls for parts, stock, invoice and post parts around the country for $20.00 profit, sorry. And I won't under cut the shops that are trying to earn a buck just to keep their doors open, there are a lot of struggling shops at the moment with several that I'm aware of closing their doors recently.
