On the brekfast show i heard John key saying that prisoners were going to be put to work for 20c a hour.
I heard some motherfucking hippy on Bfm today complaining that this would cut jobs for "working class nzers" as they work cheeper then them.
perhaps if they flicked a few of the chinese (and indians) that are doing the same thing out then id agree.
I for one, think it is good that they are not going to be sitting there all day playing playstation anymore!:2thumbsup
DISCLAIMER, i have not been to jail, ive only heard that they have playstations ect

Hell yes, Make those fuckers knit jumpers and then hand them out free of charge to people that need them.
Everyone needs a good warm jumper, One of lifes necessities.
That and some thick socks and sturdy boots.

Yep...recovering donated couches, sand and revarnish donated tables to be given to the less fortunate...
Make them actually be giving something back...
It should be proper punishment so they learn...
NZ is so light on sentances... they should be getting more than a free room overhead and a feed.... they should be getting what they are supposed to be in there for...
I'd like a heated floor...

Yes John Key is my local MP, and yes I did send the idea to him.
No - I have no way of knowing if he chose to use it or not - but I'm happy he did. Now we need to give the little buggers a dose of responsibility and a few perks/rewards to go with it (shoot a few gun, ride in tanks - some of the cool/neat stuff to go along with the 4:00am cold showers...)
Mr Key - you bloody beauty!

It's already happening
The fact that the prisons are now undercutting firms in the "outside" world, and obtaining contracts, which see the regular firms ceasing production of their products, as they can't compete with "subsidised cheap labour", is not a worry then?
Refuse to work and lose chances of probation....sounds like standover tactics to me........

A few things... I can appreciate that he is doing something for the problem, but there are a bunch of people saying that the only thing it does is turn out tougher shitheads that are now fit and a little more book smart. And Phil Gough (how to spell it?) just seems to be popping his head up complaining about every little thing John Key is doing, yet his party had done nothing to fix the problem and at least National is doing something. If he wanted things to stay the same then one can assume he was happy with the way things were and thought it acceptable... Thoughts?

Funny you should say that dude. I've thought for a long time that edjumucation is actually wasted on the Yoof of today.
Seriously I think at year 12 all kids should be out there in the work force. Compulsary work. 8-5.30 for 12 months. After that then go back to school with perhaps a clearer picture of the life direction they want to take.

It's one of the ways private prisons make thier money. They undercut society by way of contract prices due to cheap labour. Society(that's you and I) pick up the bill by way of unemployment benifits and related issues. Put a smiley face on an ex money trader and everone thinks they are getting a good deal.
For fucks sake guys wake up. Ya being shit on.
