Ok I'm trying to get one of the fork caps off the GT250R but they are a lovely polished soft alloy 17mm hex nut, and they are real tight. Any hints before I get brutal ?

thanks,
Steve

Of course, you could do the decent thing and tell him the right way to do it.

If they are still assembled in the bike first loosen the top triple clamp pinch bolts. These tend to squeeze the tubes harder onto the top cap threads.

I find a single turn of alloy foil tape works perfectly, especially on anodized caps.
I have had the fork caps off the DR four times to date with not a mark.
