I think he should have fallen on his sword already, once that report was released.

He's already out of a job. He just doesn't seem to realise it yet.

Expect to see a letter of resignation once the penny drops.

This man always had the ministers confidence in the days of helengrad... of course the emperor had no clothes and now "everyone " can see again... truly strange!

Oh bugger you beat me to it!!
No wonder Labour reps were Mum on accountabilty issues at the pre-election SST conference....Cheers Labour for that nice little mismanagement coverup:blink::2guns:

If David Garret keeps the screws on, Mr Matthews head should roll....
If this was a private company Management would be removed and underlings underperforming would be out, why should this bunch, responsible for the release of high risk prisoners killing innocents, get away with it?
Yes there's issues within Corrections that need looking into..but maybe if they follow their own reccommendations..that'll be a nice place to start
Nice to see the Poli's doing what they're voted in to do!!!!!:Punk:

Barry Matthews is just being used as the fall guy for the gross mismanagement of corrections by Aunty Helen's neanderthals.
He had to make do with the resources ( or lack thereof ) given to his department by his political masters. He will be replaced & don't be surprised when his successor is somehow linked to the "key" administration :2guns:

the thing is the media put all this blame on corrections but they dont differentiate between the parole board/probation service and the prison service so the prison service get all the blame for the mistakes the parole board have made, in reality there is nothing wrong with the prison service much at all. its the parole board and or the probation services that need the shake up

Its not rocket science..
He could've gone to the head cheese and requested the inadequacies he was dealing with be sorted, that he needed resources..
Thats his role dude, and so there would be a "Key" role taken on, dont be naive to think that beaurecrat remenants of old, dont remain..

He is the head cheese of that dept, but if he is underfunded & understaffed as reported then mistakes will happen. Anyone in that position would have gone to the 'powers that be' & ask for the resources to do the job, that he didn't have them & is now the fall guy isn't disputed.

Just like Barry Manilow when his first record was released.

He might go with a golden handshake but I doubt very much if he will be sacked outright.

Manilow will never die, with such hits as...

The Copacabana. Allegedly the hottest spot north of Havana.

Lola could apparently merengue and do the cha cha.

He's refusing to fall on his sword..... I wonder if they have enough to sack him without a lawsuit.

Well - I guess they have to go thru the same process as 'normal' staff.

Are the failures DIRECTLY attributed to him? Could outside items like funding helped contribute to the issue?

Has he had written warnings?

Has a government minister made it clear they want him gone in the press before actually having everything there to fire him?

Looks like this is going to cost us (thats us the taxpayer - not you skidmark) a lot of $$$$

Yep, I think that's the crux of it.

While he is ultimately responsible for the mess, I don't think he's had the required "perfomance management" to be able to be unilaterally sacked. I understand he had a performance review WHILE the report was being penned which was positive.

He's the guy in charge, his department have continually fucked up badly whilst under "his control", so he, as the boss, should get the bullet!

But...

This is New Zealand Authority - no care - no responsibility - no morality - and fuck the public!..... (in more ways than one)

Embattled Corrections Chief Executive Barry Matthews will remain in his job and not resign.
Matthews has been under pressure since Corrections Minister Judith Collins refused to express confidence in him this week following a damning report from the Auditor-General into the failings of the parole system.
Matthews met his employer the State Services Commissioner over the past two days and it is understood he has successfully argued to keep his job.

Kinda makes Judith Collins look like a DRAMA QUEEN.
Mabey next time the minister will learn to go through the proper procedures to achieve the end result she desires.:Pokey:
