Saw it all happen,

Some frecking knob forgot to take off his disc lock and pulled out of the bike park outside work quite quickly, front locked up and spat the guy off. Just happened to be right near Arizona bar and about 100 people pointed an laughed at him... Sucker.

He said F**K a lot, picked the thing up, looked at the damage, then shook his head a few times and rode away... Ha ha, what an idiot.
.
.
.
Oh wait... it was me :(

Why after all these years would I forget to take the lock off ? Sigh... Didn't do too much damage luckily, just some scrapes on the fairing.

I wish I could kick myself in the arse sometimes.

Sedge.

Aww thanks CSL... Right back at you and your poor abused bike :(

If you're going to chain your bike up might I suggest chaining it to a rottweiler ?

Shit man, sorry for having a lil laugh, but that does suck arse indeed, at least you got away lightly by the sounds of things.

Didn't warp your disc or anything like that, was it only cosmetic.

Bugger! How embarrassing....did any of the 100 people come and help you pick up that not-insubstantial ZZR? Or was it more fun to laugh while they quaffed their RTD's?

I have done that twice. Luckily no one was around and I didn't drop the bike. I think about what sort of damage it does to my discs though?

My disc lock came with a curly cord attached, hang one end over the handlebars. Easy eh.

Everyone uses those over here, mine was a freebie with RIDE magazine but they`re on sale in every bike shop.Sorry sedge but I laughed as well but in sympathy, before I got the reminder I did it myself and nearly gave myself a hernia because I was silly enough to try and hold the bike up.O.k. so I slowed it`s fall but could have seriously done my back.
If it`s any consolation I`ve done something stupider.First bike was a CB200 and in my eyes I was jack shit on that bike.local hangout was a pub called the Cornish Arms, all the lads used to stand around on the pavement behind the bikes on a Sunday afternoon before we went for a ride. This particular day I pulled up,all the guys were there, and my sidestand went between the bars of the drain grille.Me and the bike ended up in a heap on the pavement.great mates though, within 10 minutes they`d helped me up and stopped laughing and it was only 3 or 4 years before they let the matter drop completely. My mate Mart`s attempted donut in a grass car-park kind of eclipsed it,you`d be amazed how much crap a Z650 spinning around in circles on it`s side with it`s throttle jammed open in the mud can chuck up,same great mates could hardly stand up and were all but wetting themselves.

Yeah, no mech damage, only fairings and pride... No one offered to help, I frightened them off with all the swearing. Luckily I'm big and ugly enough to pick the thing up myself or I would've had to feign injury.

Might try one of those handle locks, you can't ride with one them on and it's probably enough.

Ah well... Bound to happen sooner or later.

Cheers all,

Sedge.

Had a couple of close calls myself so changed to a Griplock a couple of years ago. Found them much better.

Awwww shit.... not good.

Actually I have one of those disc locks as well, and on a couple of occassions I have got all kitted out and got on the bike and started to ride off, went 6 inches and thought "What the fark?" and then remembered, ... its like DOH !!!!! and friggin annoying too.
But I haven't dropped the bike thou when this has happened.

So maybe one of those stretchy thingee's is a good idea....
I wonder how much they are?

Saw it all happen,
In slow motion, too, I suspect - and felt it happen as well.

Bummer dude. Glad not too much damage was done - to the bike (and obviously yourself, unless the ER has internet access these days)

Why after all these years would I forget to take the lock off ? Sigh...
Don't use disc locks so I've never been caught by that.

Forgotten to kick up the side stand a number of times and had serious brown-trouser moments at the first left turn...

I wish I could kick myself in the arse sometimes.
You need to be more flexible, Sedge.

I would've been fine but there was a courier parked in front so I had to ride off on full lock, choke was on...

Got far enough to get my legs up and start to lean, then the thing locked up. Choke drove it forward a bit (lots of torque the ol' ZZR) and it is heavy once it's starting to fall. Even if you can get your leg out, it would be hard to lever against the bike with it coz it would just fall away under you (and it did). Sad sad sad... still shaking my head.

Gutted m8! ive got a Xena alarmd disc lock and thats primarily what it designed to save one from.
regular chunky disc lock but it gets really LOUD with motion, ie someone sits on it!
handy for saving yourself from expensive and embarrising moments as well as th security that it really loud if someone else sits on it!!!

I was about to say what a bad egg you were for laughing, as it's happened to me a couple of times, albeit at slow speeds so I didn't kiss the tarmac.

That sucks mate.

There's a couple of guys in work with me that use disc locks attached to bungee cords that they tie around their bars. That way they remember to remove the locks when they mount their bikes.

pffffttthahaha........ sorry man thats bloody awful, but i know all to well the perils of these embarrassing situations, by way of the first bike i had with a sidestand cutout switch ......me being a complete noobie (read twat) at the time i couldn' figure out why every time i put the bike in gear it cut out :spudwhat: and i had to put it back into neutral and start it again :angry2: anyway after about 1/2 an hour lookin at this fiddlin with that with every body i the sevvice station watchin me :spudwave: ,these two guys walk over gigglin their arses off :shake: :shake: and said they couldnt let me suffer any more and kindly informed me that the side stand had to be up before putting it into gear!!(not the routine i was used to but better!) :stupid: "ohh yeah" i said tryin to maintain the last shred of whatever cool i thiought i had, thanked them put on my helmet put up the stand and then give my 750 beast a rev just to recover some cool points then eased out on the road wrung its neck out in first (young twat that i was) went to snick it up into 2nd missed a gear and damn near blew the thing up :brick: :weep: i was too ashamed to look backfor fear i had killed them with the laughter i was givin them! i went home parked up and left it for the day!......somedays your shit just gets all backwards! :o i understand your pain sedge.

I wonder how many KBers have done the same, but "got away" with it? I usually lock the stearing head whenever i use a disc lock to try and stop doing that .................................................. ............. again.

sympathies mate - had a similar experiance but fortunately at home and no one saw me. I dont hardly ever use the bloody thing now and if I do I tie a bit of yellow string from the disc lock to the handlebars just to remind myself!

I booted it, dropped the clutch, popped a mono breifly, the when the front made contact with ground again (about 2m later), BANG!, bike slid for about 2 meters.
i looked like a mega dumbass, good thing my bike was naked, so no fairing repair bill.
Make up one of those cable things so u know its on the handle bars. about 1.5m nylon and 2 cable crimps do it.

Put the disc lock on your back disc. That way if you forget it, you won't drop the bike when it whacks on the caliper.

Close, but better still, chuck it on the rear sprocket and you'll do no damage to your brakes.

Hope the bike's ok and your ego recovers...

Oh shit, now THATS funny! Did something similar myself: Used to have a GPX750R that I nearly always put up on the centre stand but on one occasion I used both (?)....started the bike on the centre stand, put my gear on. hopped on, rolled forward off the centre stand, grabbed first and went to roll off. As the clutch was let out it didn't stall- it just bogged down, the more the clutch was let out, the closer it got to stalling, so it sounded just like it was trying to roll off in top gear with the brakes on. WTF? I rolled it back and forward, nothings locked up, what the hells going on. Tried again, same result. Made absolutely sure it was in 1st gear. Tried again with lots more revs. Same result. Two lovely ladies were now laughing at me. I feel so cool. Rolled the bike back and forward again- all OK. WTF is going on???! Tried again- MAX revs. Same result. People all over the car park are now watching. Now I feel REALLY cool  . Go to hop off the bike to inspect- 'oh.....the side stands down'...

Bummer, Sedge.

There are simple things you can do to prevent this happening again - one is to put the lock right behind the caliper, so the front wheel won't turn at all when you go to move forward. A better idea is when you use your disk lock, do something you don't normally do, as a reminder you've got the lock on. I keep my disk lock in a small bag that goes under the seat with the tools. When I lock the bike, the bike keys go in the bag, in my pocket, so when I go to get on the bike, I go "Oh yeah - disk lock is on!"
The 'disk lock leash' is another one, or what I was going to do before the bag thing, is get a fridge magnet or summat similar and stick it over the ignition cap when the bike has the disk lock on, as a visual reminder.

This thread is certainly putting me off ever getting a bike with a fairing - cost me enough replacing levers and getting pegs straightened/welded back on without having to pay for fairing repairs.

For sale: "I's got da browns" bags.

Made entirely of heavy duty paper. Put it over your head to conceal your identity after an embarassing moment, especially in public places. Leave on until people have lost interest over your laughable incident and your dignity has been reclaimed. Comes with openings for eyes and mouth for your convenience (opening for nose optional, please specify). Going cheap. If you're ever involved in a public incident at the expense of your pride and dignity think " I's got da browns bags". Ask for them by name at a local registered dealer near you. :wari:

Sorry bro. Not only do I like tits by I am one as well. :spudwhat: :spudwave:

Oxford make them, about $6.00. Cheaper than a new disc or caliper.
