Weekend's almost here. Should be working but can't be bothered.

So I thought I'd find out what people think

Looking for your favourite way to ride - alone, with a mate or in a group?

Just cos...

(Never posted a poll before so apologies if it goes wrong)

Since just about having my head taken off by someone's chain, alone.

Maybe with one other bike. So long as it isn't a bag of shit that'll have things flying off it.

Never in a group.

Alone - I can stop whenever I want, don't like timetables, go at my own pace whether it be fast or medium. I trying to learn slow lol and am having some success at it too. Have ridden in groups for a few funerals - and that is awesome - but went on the Hog Toy Run once - forget it, good cause but too many bloody posers.

I don't mind pillioning - my friend Ahu loved it - very brave man - he would just give me the thumbs up to go for it. Another friend tho I ride strictly to the limit - I tried to lose Col of the back once but didn't work lol.

It would probably be ok if I had a partner that rode but that hasn't happened yet - oops my first husband did but we didn't have two bikes!

Alone, although one other is cool.
Alone because, for me, it is the safest, in that I am not tempted to "compete"...a buddy would have to be happy to match pace etc and not get into any pissing contests.
I do enjoy the companionship of group rides but then, at the back of the herd, there is not much of that anyway!!

same here. im more than happy to take a 2 week trip down to the burt and speak no one else except retail staff. its like getting to know myself all over again.

i will ride with groups for special occasions, but i limit those as much as possible. im not 100% confident in groups, and always try to ride just in front of the TEC. that way, if i stuff up, theres less people to run over me. lmfao.

I only ride with 2 maybe 3 people in total.. Usually never with more than 2

all the people i ride with are at the same-ish ability as me and we know and trust each other .. I dont ride faster than i think i can handle due to some vision deficiencies and if i play tail end charlie thats fine with me

i have nothing to prove and wont let my testicles over-run my brain...

I havn't had the chance to tour with a comany so I wouldn't really know how to compare but I'll tour by myself ANYDAY.

Reasons are simple.

I can decide where the fuck I want to eat.
I can decide where the fuck I want to sleep.
I can decide where the fuck I want to piss.
I can decide where the fuck I want to stop for some photos.
I can decide where the fuck I want to go.

Sounds selfish but yet that's all I know at the moment. Biased you say? Come on, I've never toured with my friends yet... Nor had a big accident by myself either...

I look forward to tour with some mates one day. I'd love to!

I'm not into going "racing" when on a group ride.

Only two possible issues here when spending too much time alone:

1. You discover that you really don't like yourself and end up depressed.

2. You discover that you are indeed a farking excellent person, fall in love with yourself  and get caught making out in the bushes......alone.......

I love to ride in groups, its fun, but you have too be 100% aware of whats happening around you, and put a heap of trust in the riders you are with.
Speed is the killer of this, so if the lads at the front want to go fast, thats ok with me, I just tag on to the rear of them. Its also good to sit in the middle of a mob of good riders, but I get a little nervey when there a lot of noobs in a mob. TEC is a position behind the Harleys so I dont sit there ,lol.
Riding in a small mob, say 5-6 is easy as, when they are all experianced riders.
Risks are taking when with those who want to hit the throttle stop,
but it all comes back to your personal comfort zone and how much experiance you have in groups.
riding in pairs is good for getting places at a good pace, or for a pootle across the contryside.
Riding alone for me is so/so. I do it, but dont enjoy it as much as riding in company.

Where's the option for "all of the above in the right circumstances"?

I like to ride alone for all those reasons EJ said.

I like to ride with one or two friends when I know I can trust them, and our bikes and riding styles are similar enough that nobody feels like they are holding anyone up (otherwise I would prefer to ride alone and just meet them at the destination).

I like the fun of riding in a group - the bigger the better! BRING ON THE WESTPAC RIDE!

Works wel.

"Rhino Bucket - Ride With Yourself

Queen of denial, sex plain Jane

I'm a little bit crazy, but you're insane

Two lane highway, take the middle lane

Forever in hurry, always being late

Walk like a lady, talking like a man

You say that you're a princess, but they call you a madame

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like the company

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like what you see

Teasin' old men, pleasin' little boys

You say that you're discrete

But you're makin' too much noise

Run up a tab, pullin' down your top

You say it's time to party

But you don't know when to stop

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like the company

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like what you see

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Take a long, long ride

Take a long, long ride

Solo

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like the company

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Do you like what you see

Take a long, long ride with yourself

Take a long, long ride

Take a long, long ride

Take a long, long ride (ride with yourself)

Take a long, long ride (ride with yourself)

Do you like what you see (ride with yourself)

Take a long ride (ride with yourself)

Take a long, long ride (ride with yourself)

Take a long ride (ride with yourself)

I don't really mind either way as each has it's advantages and disadvantages.Really depends on what mood I'm in. Riding alone means being able to do your own thing when and how you want.Riding in a group means meeting new people and possibly making new friends.

Having ridden with large groups and with one or two other riders, and alone, I have decided that I enjoy riding alone the most.

For some reason, I feel stressed while riding in groups. Even riding with one other rider isn't as much fun as riding by myself!

A lot of folks here only seem to ride with trusted buddies........I'm just wondering how it was yo'all knew they could be trusted, or how they came to be trusted??

Gimme a break people, bikes are like magnets! If you're out riding alone, you all wave at the oncoming bikes and if you pass or are passed by another rider heading in the same direction, how many of you latch on for a bit.

Personally, I just like riding. Be it alone, with one or two mates, club rides, charity rides, commutes to town, short fangs to a latte, moderate pootles to a big-breakfast or all day and night with the Rustys. I like it at the front of a group or I am equally content as TEC, or anywhere in the middle. One can normally tell if those around aren't used to group riding and I'll give them a bit of space (for my benefit), and the same goes for those I don't know, but I also have a few riding buddies who are happy for me to fill their mirrors and vice versa.

If you haven't guessed already, I haven't voted as there's no option for "All of the Above".

I do most of my riding solo but do enjoy riding with small groups. What I don't like about riding with others is that you feel that you have to keep up with the group (which might be going a little bit faster that the posted speed limits!) and I don't like riding in close formation (staggered) with unexperienced or unpredicatable riders. What I don't like about riding solo is not having a mate to share the experience with, and easy targets for traffic police - no witnesses to back you up when you claim you weren't speeding :crybaby:

Something to be said for riding alone, blow some cobwebs out !
Something to be said for riding as a mob (cant think what right now)
Years ago it was cool to mob up with a bunch of harleys and blast all over the country in packs, but when i was reborn as such i found it more enjoyable to ride alone or with the Mrs on the back !
Lately i have taken to riding with a group again ! Started in group 3 (that lasted a day or so, then it was group 2 (for quite a number of days) But now i ride in group 1 (and it's just so much fun) Only had one lass fall off directly in front of me (i avoided her) and 1 or 2 moments of my own (stayed rubber side down)!
Ya soon find one or two in yr group ya seem to get along with (along quite quickly) and stick with them, ride side by side, take turns in the lead etc !
I like riding in groups again !!!

Either way riding Solo is where I'm most comfortable I guess, I ride in groups for the social aspect not the riding. :niceone:

I enjoy riding with my husband but otherwise prefer to ride alone. Know my own limitations and prefer to ride within them rather than push myself or be left behind.

I often get called a wuss or people say "we never see you out on rides" but I loathe riding with groups and always have. I hate having to look out for what everyone else around me is doing - I'm fine if I am at the back, but I hate being in the middle of a large group of riders of varying abilities.

I prefer groups. Heaps more fun. Heaps safer.
I do ride with just draco sometimes as well, and sometimes 1 or 2 mates (if I can borrow some off somebody)
And I sometimes go out on my own, usually at night, but it scares the shit outta me with the way I ride nowadays, heard of far to many dying while waiting for ambo's, or just not being found....

I do find it fascinating how many don't like groups, when we do group rides everyone rides at their own pace, and we wait and regroup every so often. The field usually gets fairly spread out fairly quickly so you don't bump into each other all the time. Really don't see any problem.....you sure you lot aren't just a bunch of anti-social bastards? :Pokey:

Depends on WHICH group you ride with. When I was a member of WIMA about 10 years ago I enjoyed their rides as there weren't the problems with having to prove yourself that you often get when men are involved! Many times I have come back from a ride with other groups and had to listen to piles of shit being spouted about "did you see me wheelie past that cop car (exaggerated for effect)" and "you think that was cool, did you see me pull out and overtake that Ferrari doing 200 clicks!" etc, etc.

One club I belong to had to take the unprecedented step of permanently banning a member because of his behaviour - overtaking on double yellow lines, on blind brows, in the path of oncoming traffic, etc - and despite ALWAYS being tackled about this at the next stop and being approached by heaps of club members about how dangerous his riding was, his response was "I'm a good rider, I know what I am doing". That may be true (but we all thought it was a load of shit), but when riding with a group of varying abilities, he had to allow for one of them NOT realising he wanted to push his way back in when an overtaking move went wrong. Add to that his propensity for self-medicating on various substances and you'll see why he was a danger to everyone around him.

Silly poll, no all of the above options.

Depends on how I feel at the time. I recently became confident enough to ride on my own in big rides without Phoenix leading, and discovered I really like it. However I also like going away on rides with him and a few others. I started off in a group, and as long as everyone is true to there own abilities then there is usually no probs.

So for those who "can't vote" Imagine that tomorrow you are granted one wish for a motorcycle ride - you can be anywhere in any weather on any bike you like - are you going solo, with one other or in a group for your one perfect ride...

There are some great things about riding alone.

I can think I'm riding fast and there is no one there to spoil my delusions.
If I ride like shit but make it back alive, no one will know how useless I really am.
I'm less likely to have my thinking/ideas challenged or be challenged to learn something new. Ignorance is bliss.

yeah am with you there. Definately prefer to ride alone.
The truth is that starting riding again after losing a brother in a bike accident and nearly getting killed by a drunk driver whilst driving a car, changed me.
Being alone means I can relearn to ride without pressure. The man is far more experienced than I and when we do ride together I have to have him in front or I feel an almost impossible to ignore urge to have to go faster or ride more aggressively.

You're quite right.

Riding in a group will teach you that group rides are a particularly shitty way to spend your riding time.

If you don't ride in a group at least once, you might never learn this valuable lesson.

I've done most of my limited riding over the last year or so alone. Honestly, it's half the reason the bike sits the garage getting dusty for weeks at a time.

The pack ride to and from Paeroa on the weekend was the most fun I've had on a bike for ages.

Seriously. I love the group ride and consequent socialising, but in spite of the 'safety in numbers' bins and tickets seem to follow groups. If I want to have a great bike ride these days at a suitable pace then unfortunately it's by myself.
