One thirty. Just run in for these beasts.
One of our 08 300's is over two hundy and still very strong. They should do 80 hrs on a piston eazy.
Just make sure its had one or two top ends.

Yeah mines done about 110hrs now and it is rock solid, I did the top end at 86hrs and it was still pretty mint, if you are just a cruiser it would do 100hrs with no issues.
Mine also might be for sale soon unfortunately.

IMHO 140 hours is long enough for someone to completely bugger a bike. Poor air cleaner maintenance, bad jetting choices, incorrect fuel/oil mixing or just plain bad luck - any of these things or more could wreck a bike - even one with as tough a reputation as the KTM300. Tread carefully.

Five minutes is long enough to bugger an engine if you do any of the above as well.

Yeah it is a gamble! But at 140 hours I would guess as long as you allowed enough in the purchase price for a top end recon it should be save able. Its not often you need to fork out on a new barrel in a 2smoker. Mostly a new piston etc will bring it back to being well good enough for a 2 year old bike. 70 hours a year isn't to bad. If he rides for 3 hours at a time that's only twice a month. If your not going to be happy with that go buy a new one. Buying any bike is a gamble, if the guy is adamant he's cleaned the filter after "every ride" simply ask him how he does it! If he gives you the proper method ie kero, soap wash, rinse twice, dry overnight and oil with Motul etc you can be fairly sure he's not filling you full of shit! If he can't do this and doesn't know what the hell he's talkin about, make your own decision from there. All the above can be done as part of a discussion about the bike and MXing in general as well.
Its not often a 2 smoker is totally toast unless he's had a major blow up or someones stuck a hone :bash: down it! (Just kidding, couldn't resist sorry cham). Even in saying that some of the really fast kart engines out there had some quite bad C clip gouges from the port down and went very bloody quick. Unless your Josh coppins you could easily loose 2% off a 300 exc and not even miss it!
Fuck I can ramble!!!

Yeah I may have to give it a rest for a while as I might be heading to OZ to live, things are abit up in the air at the moment but I should no in the next couple of weeks. It will be a real bummer to leave the 300 and the nz riding behind though, I will miss it greatly.

Picked the bike up today an o my god, i thought my 98 rmx was nice to ride.

dude seemed very genuine and honest,
the only thing is the e start doesnt seem to work but hey who needs one of those on a 2 smoker
even after spending a grand or so on the e start it still doesnt want to work
makes all the noises but no go
other than that its an amazing bike. a steal for 5800 i reckon!!

KTM recommend motorex $35 a liter. but the castrol tts is just as good $30 a liter. i just use the cheaper motul for my gear box since its changed quite often

Wow thats cheap, there really is not much to the e-start I service mine regurally and I dont have any probs, pull it apart and have a look I think the bendix spring on the 07 was a bit light but you may be able to replace it with a 08 or 09 model spring which I think they improved some what.

the castrol stuff can be bought pretty much anywhere, including superdum auto and ripco, for about $85 or 4 litres. i wouldnt waste my money buing a litre at a time
as for its goodness, 15 years of 2 stokes and no issues so far ought to vouch for it enough.
i also rate the motul, but its fucken expensive
