For those of you who really want to learn how to take better photos, the Photographers social group (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=95) is now doing monthly assignments. The idea is that we set a theme, everyone takes some photos and uploads them, and then the group provides feedback about what works and what doesn't.
The theme for the first assignment is... wait for it... BIKES! So get out there and start shooting some pics of your bike! :D Pictures should be uploaded by 21 May. Check out more details here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=95).
Nice, ive a crap camera and no skills but have always found it interesting so im in.

Big Dave has provided a useful link, which may be of interest if you're struggling to get started. Read his tips here:

Why don't we do a ride and organise to take pics of each other on the ride on different corners and places and see how we get on? We could stipulate certain places where we stop and take pics. Also means we all get to meet each other and do a ride as well.

I did heaps for Kiwi Rider many years ago - covered the nationals, etc. What do you want to know?

You buy the ticket now, and if we win, I'll give you half AND pay for my share of the ticket - you can't get any fairer than that!

Since submissions for the 2010 KB calendar are already open (see here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/showthread.php?t=97375)), you could also consider submitting your best shot(s) for that too. :D

Don't forget that your bike-related shots are due next Thursday. You'll need to submit them in the feedback thread!

I have to go dig out my bike and take pics of it! This shocking weather hasn't helped but I'm sure my white RSVR would have looked awesome parked up in yesterday's hail storm. ;)

The submissions for the photography assignment should be coming through now thick and fast. You only have until Thursday to submit your pictures so get a wriggle on if you haven't done this already!
If you want to participate and are not currently a member of this group, join here (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?groupid=95). You will need to join this group before you can see any discussions or submit photos.
If you don't know how to submit a photo, you'll need to:
1. Go User CP > Pictures & Albums and upload the photos into one of your albums.
-> Social groups don't have the same size limit as the general forums; however, the really large images (say 1024 x 768) make you scroll across and down the page. This can make it difficult to see the whole photo so feel free to resize them to 800 x 600 or thereabouts.
2. Copy the URL in the BB Code box.
3. Go to the Photography social group's Do you want feedback on a photo? (http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?do=discuss&group=&discussionid=201) discussion and paste in the link you copied above.
Happy shooting! :D

Midnight Mike was the winner of May's assignment. Here is the topic he set for June.
Junes topic: "Back in the day"
New Zealands full of iconic historical buildings, all of which are photographed on a daily basis. But the buildings with true character are those which are often overlooked and ignored. Old structures such as abandoned wool sheds, cottages, batches and small town churches are full of old tales and rich history.
Therefore the focus for this months assignment will be to capture the essence of these buildings, to get out there and find something different that you would normally ride past and would only offer a glance, or even something that requires a bit of a walk to get to. Its really up to you.
To coincide with this theme, submitted photos must be in either black and white, or Duotone (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Duotone)
No archiving - photos must be taken this month.
DUE DATE: 28th June.
Good luck and have fun.
Photos need to be submitted here: http://www.kiwibiker.co.nz/forums/group.php?do=discuss&discussionid=535
When you submit your photo, please bear in mind that you will need to resize it to 600x480 and 100kb so it can be posted in the main forums for voting.

Ditto. I've already got some ideas about a certain type of structure to shoot, but they're not buildings.

I thought this was about photography not using photoshop features. Or can you set your camera to do duotone? Sucks if ya don't have photoshop.

Just use B&W if your camera doesn't have duotone. I don't have a clue how to use PhotoShop, either.
