View Full Version : Did I make a differance

Did I make a differance? well I'd like to think so. I live on state h/w1 in a 60k zone and tonite was about the 4th or 5th time in the last couple of weeks that a KLX/KDX (the 2stroke) has gone flying through in excess off 100k along with a XL/SL125.
These are kids having fun but they arnt going to live to be half my age at this rate.
I heard the 2stroker winding up so I jumped up from the puter (how dear they interupt me while on KB) and saw the green flash of the noisie one fly past at least this time he had a helmet on, the old honda was folowing balls out changing lanes something wicked at a very impresive speed for it.
Any how I thought fuk this ran out to the garage slamed the MTB lid on mounted the MTB and took of after them, I knew they wernt far away as I could still hear them. They were having some fun in the meat works railway yard area so I headed over.
I beckened the green thing over (the old Honda had disapared) and he came....... I said bikes are so cool but no good to ya if dead..... told him they were riding well in the stock yards and the bikes looked sweet then proceded to mention the dont be a fukwit speach regarding the speed on the road and singlet that he was wearing reminded him that he was too young to be going to his mates funeral.
So did he just think I was some old grumpy fart that told him off and what I said went in one ear and out the other..... or did he listen to what I said?
well I'd like to think my efforts wernt in vane and that he will be injoying bikes for a very long time......... ohh crap have I become the old man that used to shoot a salt gun at me cos I was digging up his padock on the old TS100 all those years ago.

I surely do hope so.....
But time will tell.
All you can do is try to get it into their heads,
and hope like hell they actually listened.

One can only try.
Better to have given the speech than to wonder if it would've made a difference after seeing him after an accident.
Keep well.

Good effort Dangerous. Might have had more impact if you'd rocked up on the VTR though, but you did the right thing.

Doubt it will sink in but at lest your on the right track.

Good on ya. :2thumbsup :2thumbsup I like to think it's made a difference - even if you've sowed the seed of common sense so that it whispers quiet-like from their subconscious and effects a modicum of restraint.
Saddening to see people doing silly things that could get themselves killed or seriously maimed.

cheers guys, ya could be right about it getting through cos about half an hour later they came past again doing the speed limit, but still wearing SFA on the non reg/wof bikes as I said to him.... you will stand out less to the cops if ya slow down.

At the end of the day mate, im sorry to day it, but they wont learn the lesson here.
Reason being, at that age, if you were in those guys boots, would you listen to someone doing the same to you?
Hopefully they learn on their own accord, or fate deals them a good hand.
I guess we can be thankfull they arent on GSXR's, R1's and Blades like the states.

I guess we can be thankfull they arent on GSXR's, R1's and Blades like the states.
Or on RGVs, for that matter.
Years back I was visiting a friend in Orcland and some of his flatmates (young Uni students) had clubbed together and bought a defunct RD250 that they were planning to do up and ride. Once I ascertained that they had never ridden a bike in their lives I said "Pray you never get the fucking thing running."
They were rather put out and asked why, so I informed them it was more bike than they could handle at their level of experience (I had owned an RD350 so was quite familiar with the RD's insane power-band and I figured that if the 250 was even half as bad as that, it'd kill them.)
They weren't prepared to have a bar of it, tho' - they knew what they were doing (they were students, after all - knowledgeable on all things).
Fortunately, they mechanical aptitude was even less than their riding ability and all they lost was their money...

i think its very admirable that u did more than most people (myself included) would do. They probably wouldn't have thought too much about your speech immediately...but hopefully when they do screw up (hope it won't be too serious) they'll remember an important chat they once had and it'll become more relevant.

What possibly did help is you saying they'd attract less attention if they went the speed limit. They possibly know what they're doing is wrong & just want to get that part over & done with as quick as poss. As for them wearing sfa on the way home - it'd be interesting to see if next time they're wearing a bit more - that will show if it's sunk in or not.
If it's a 2 smoker, it'd be the kdx as the klx is a 4.

As you were on a bike yourself, they may have taken in what you said.
Sharing the same interest and all.
Unfortunatly maturity and young guys don't go together :(

LMFAO...you old fart :spudwave:
Hey in all seriousness though good for you for trying to teach these guys some kinda bike safety. Would I have listened at that age? From someone on a bike maybe I would have.
You never know you may have just saved a life !

Good move man!
1) you at least had some cred with them being on a bike
2) I think the biggest surpirse to many is that there are people out there that actually care.
Kids are being brought up to know the rules and get away with breaking them if they can. It's just a game and of course when you are young and bulletproof "how could anything possibly go wrong?"
I was at a concert and some kid in front of me decided it was time to play "kick the shit out of a sign". Same thing - I went and had words with him and his surprise was obvious... it wasn't acceptable behaviour.
Thos kids on the bikes are going to hurt or kill themselves eventually. That's bad, but the additional problem is they'll also scar anyone else involved, physically and mentally.
Not good. I say more people shoudl be doing that. It sends the message that it's not only against the law, but it is dangerous and unacceptable to the rest of us too.
Good on ya man - do it again anytime

......... :brick: thats right I was pulling out the drive in the work van an hr ago and those to brain dead teenagers came flying through at full noise and disapared down the rail tracks again, well by the time I was up to the servo I saw them pulling in..... so yip I had to ask 'dident you fuking wee c*#ts listen to what I said, why did you just pull that dumb ass stunt again' his answer 'cos its fun' my reply went something like this 'theres no fun in being dead... aint no bikes in teenager heaven boys.... think about it.
I left it at that, they havent been back past yet so maybe a black singlet wearing tattooed thug like me with DG's on scared the crap out of them and they took off the other way or they walked past my joint pushing the bikes on tippy toes..... then again I may of made no differance what so ever :done:

Try and 'back-track' the boys and see where they live, it may be that there parents don't give a fat-rats arse what the boys do but then again they might just be really worried about what you have to say.
I've had an experience similar to yours where the parents honestly believed the boys were 'just riding up the grass verge and riding around Mr Wilsons paddock and the bikes don't go very fast"
And when they found out the truth? Hooboy, no bike for a bit (mainly 'cos of the lies) and the riding was a tad more toned down and they ALWAYS had a helemt and gloves etc when they DID get the bike back. :niceone:

Little buggers eh?!
Hmm, there's always a chance that lads like these will try to run if the cops turn up- that could turn nasty and your predictions of them killing themselves would become a self fulfilling prophecy.
Scumdogs idea is probably the safest. Shit if a scary looking bugger like you didn’t give them a fright I don’t know what will….maybe you should’ve worn that mini you were supposed to wear to Ruapuna :p

Yeah those kdx's are mean I was on my mates 200 or 250 and it was the most fun ive ever had on a bike :) To wheelie it you just have to acclerate hard. Although when showing someone how safe it was to ride it I poped a wheelie (by accident) and crashed :( broke the front brake lever too, so had to fork out a whole ten bucks for a new one.... at least now im part owner of his bike hehe
I'd be too scared to take it 100ks down the road with no helmet on :S those bike a too powerful..... now to find a 600 dirt bike.......

Some of those kids can be downright irritating....but an injured/dead rider is not what anyone wants to see regardless of age!! Afterall, accidents knows no prejudice or bias. Good job for trying mate!
In the US CBR forum I'm on they regularly post pics and vids of accidents just as a reminder to everyone abt how fragile we are and how much more we have to be careful to enjoy this great hobby/pastime/lifestyle!!

Sadly I think I have these pics. A freind who is convinced I am a nutcase emailed them to me. I have looked at them a couple of times, but frankly now I just avoid them. If you want them I can email them. There is no way I am posting them here as they are extreemly graphic, so before I email them I think you should be warned- they go like this:
Photo 1: burnt trees etc on the side of the road leading up to a corner
Photo 2: an unidentifable bike on the side of the road with a pile of body parts on the ground next to it- trail of blood on the road where they have dragged the torso
Photo 3: a nice close veiw of the dismembered torso, with the legs and hips near by. Some internal organs are clearly visible, the top of the riders head seems to disappear into the road...
Tell them that you took the photos and this was one of your mates and you had to help drag his body parts...

Yes that's true unfortunatly.
It's just a nasty price to pay, injury or death and not necessarily your own...
