Having a chat last night and decided that there was too long between the weekend and Friday night rides so a plan was hatched. Pootle mid week, was the fix  :ride:

Plan was for a exploratory excursion with Bonez being nominated route finder (I still don't know where anywhere is )

There are quite a few newbies who want to clock up the k's and get to know the goup better so a perfect opportunity. Not going to be as fast or as far as on Fridays but will surely be fun. See you there :sunny::soon:

Plan was for a exploratory excursion with Bonez being nominated route finder (I still don't know where anywhere is )Best known plans are known to go haywire. Basicly the place and timish has been set and its up to those who turn up to sort out where to go. Obviously a route can be posted in this thread. As Sarah mentioned this is more aimed for the less experianced/newer riders, but anyone is welcome.

I beleive the CDs have a pooddle from there every other Weds too.

Really sorry to hear that Bonez.

Wednesday Night Ride. BP FH 6:00 - Not wanting to confuse things but Central Districts Wednesday night ride / Cafe cruise is also on Wednesday at 6:00 from BP Metro (Cnr Princess and Fergusson).

There could be a lot of bikes out so make sure you're with the right group. :dodge: You would be welcome to tag along with Central Districts if you wanted to and maybe pickup some routes. Things are really hectic here so I won't be out. Enjoy.

Shame about Bonez not being able to attend (hope all goes well for you). I'm keen for a leisurely ride and might be able to come up with an idea for where to go by 6pm. See you there if I don't get all keen and head out to your place before hand.

Really sorry about your Dad Bonez, anything you need just shout :yes:You were missed last night of course :ride:

Gary and my bruv on the Daytona got to escort the babes on hondas:lol:
Maria (not on here yet) did a storming job and we had a lovely pootle out past bunnythorpe, colyton, colyton lookout and then arrived early at the waterford so headed off down pohongina valley east. Ni and Gary went for a play and Maria got some twisties under her tyres :2thumbsup:
Perfect night and the views were awesome.

Saw the CDers at bunnythorpe and no confusion thanks for the warning. Would have been too fast for us:lol:

Sly caught up with us at the pub, the new camo gear not here yet so we recognised him
That daytona is gorgeous  Would look better in caspian blue of course but you can't have it all:lol:

The guys rode back with us to Ashurst and Ni and I delivered Maria glowing after her first 'REAL" ride. She is keen to get out as often as possible so won't be long before she is out on a Friday:soon:

Gr8 night for a meander and Gary managed to keep us all under some sort of control.

Did have to tell Maria not to follow Ni when he was slaloming the daytona along the the white line  These visiting poms can't work out how to ride on roads that aren't clogged with traffic!!!

Pootle mid week, was the fix  :ride:

Will be Tuesday this week unless anybody else will organise a Wednesday run.
Off to Eric Clapton in Auckland and Horse and I and possibly GSVR will be riding up there Wednesday and back Thursday. Feel free to come find us or ride part way if you are free :ride:

Meeting Ynot and Mrs when we get there:wari:

Tuesday plan is a short slow one and then a play in the carpark to get some braking and slow riding skills. Off to play on the gravel too so visitors to the house on the hill feel safe leaving :bye:

Same time same place :sunny:

Be well and truley onto capacino alert by the time you get there, ride safe as it is a biggish race day at Ellerslie, but the traffic should be gone by 2.00pm.

Tuesday sounds the bizzo, nearly dropped the bike again this arvo,in the bloody shed, thought the stand was down, but was 1/2 up,leant bike over and kept going, thought wtf, bike is bloody heavy at that angle.Thought thank you to grandad & dad for having horses, getting on and off the correct (near)side works on a bike and nag, nearly took out copious export stubbies if she had gone down too.

Well a good evening. Gary and Dogs popped into the garage for a quick natter before we left. Then off to a Massey car park so Sarah, Horse and Maria could do some slow handling stuff. Figure 8s, slow speed braking and U turns. Sarah and Horse doing a good job of showing Maria the ropes while I supervised. I'm good at that ;). Good thing was with the cars about a good deal of situational awareness was required too. Good effort people. After that a run over the track, balance, gorge then home.

Thanks Al. Its the improved version!

1/ Doesn't fall on its side.
2/Don't get wet when it rains.
3/When its cold you can turn on a heater.
4/You can cart all your gear around in it.
5/In a collision you have much less chance of injury.
6/You can operate it barefoot and without a helmet...
7/Tires last alot longer and cost less.

The advantages are endless...

Going for a wee ride tonight (Monday) as it's a nice evening - straight after work, meet up at BP Rangitikei at 5:30pm.

In the name of simplicity, I suggest that the title of this thread be changed to 'The Not The Friday Night Ride Thread' or something equally witty. That way, if ppl want to go riding during the week, they can just post it here. Friday night is half weekend baby

... yeah.... ok.... maybe.... you twisted my arm.... I'm having electrical issues due to my impatience and shite wiring. Wiring is all sorted but now the battery went flat yesterday. Bikes charging ok so there should have been no excuse for it, other than the obvious wiring and the fact its british. Charging all day and night SHOULD solve it, so I'll try to be there AND on time

2 for 2.

EDIT: Actually, I'm not so sure on the ride now. Just been down the river and in the downpour thats come up from the south island. Its icy cold out today.

Nothing wrong with the British, you can't complain, a short ride and you went after your own like a ferret down a rabbit hole I seem to remember:lol:
They just like to be loved a lot and spoilt a little. It will settle down soon. The beast was temperamental when it first arrived but it is under control most of the time now, only lies down occasionally

Spotted a cow on the road but trusty Horse on his trusty traction engine soon had that sorted. Off up to Sarahs for coffee and nibbled on some balls after giving up our quest. Saw some bitch who was giving Garfeild a hard time and I got a good lick'n by a big dog.

I'm afraid to comment. :)

Nice little pootle, and where was the fricken rain? I even went on a longer tiki tour on the way home, but the skies were clearing. I can see _stars_ out there, damn it!

It was actually a nice evening for a ride over the hill, and we were taking it easy with the damp roads, so just a nice relaxed cruise. And yep, just before the cafe at Ballance my bike demonstrated its cow-herding abilities and chased one back over a fence. I knew I wasn't going to live that one down. :)

Stopped in to see Sarah for a cuppa as she'd gone and spelled "Biker" with a "P", but we'll let her off as those strawberry & coconut balls were yummo!

Well, it was a ride of two halves. The first half was a quiet little pootle with GSVR leading, keeping the pace very moderate for our beginner. After a small loop to the south we pulled into an empty carpark at Massey for a chat, and the consensus emerged that our thirst for pootling remained, so minus our L-plater we headed Track-wards.

Unfortunately chaos soon ensued as our 5 got split into two groups by the traffic, and our leaders (sarahtvet and timaaaaaa) wandered up the garden path while the rest of us took the correct turn and thought the front two were well ahead. Eventually we were reunited at Ballance and headed home through the Gorge, going our separate ways once we hit the city.

And an interesting sidenote for Gary and Bonez - remember that txt I sent Sarah while we were waiting at Ballance - she actually received it about 25mins later as we were queuing up at Cafe Cuba for cake. So much for modern communications!

It was a good night for us fans of American Iron. Met a trio of visiting Seppo's looking for a jumping bar (we had to disappoint them - Jumping? In Palmy? On a Weds night?), turns out one of them rides a Wideglide and we steered him towards ANZA where he's thinking of renting a bike for a day or two. And then a gorgeous old EVO Electraglide with sidecar went past and parked up a little further down George St.

PS I should also mention a Mr Sly dropping into the BP on 4 wheels before we left, telling a tale of woe regarding his Trumpet's sparky bits. He's really not having a good time of it in that dept.

sarahtvet and timaaaaaa) wandered up the garden path while the rest of us took the correct turn
Purely accidental of course, last time I wait for you lot thats for sure

And an interesting sidenote for Gary and Bonez - remember that txt I sent Sarah while we were waiting at Ballance - she actually received it about 25mins later as we were queuing up at Cafe Cuba for cake. So much for modern communications!
If you had waited you wouldn't need t text me, am I nagging yet

It was a good night for us fans of American Iron. Met a trio of visiting Seppo's looking for a jumping bar (we had to disappoint them - Jumping? In Palmy? On a Weds night?), turns out one of them rides a Wideglide and we steered him towards ANZA where he's thinking of renting a bike for a day or two. And then a gorgeous old EVO Electraglide with sidecar went past and parked up a little further down George St..

Harleys everywhere last night for sure. Maybe he will join us tomorrow, he has the directions and mobile number so providing high flyers didn't wear him out you never know. Can look forward to the return trip to Alaska next year maybe:ride:

PS I should also mention a Mr Sly dropping into the BP on 4 wheels before we left, telling a tale of woe regarding his Trumpet's sparky bits. He's really not having a good time of it in that dept.

So nice to have the caged visitors on a wednesday to see us off when they can't come play. Memo to put mobile in a different pocket so no distractions when I am trying to catch up with you lot.

Poor Sly, sounds like he had a crap day for sure, apart from the beach start :innocent: I am sure his bronze beauty will be on top form again soon if he he has anything to say about it. Looking forward to riding the two daytonas again together soon

Well I had promised to meet someone on the ride that day and felt bad if I had been a no show. So this way they realised the bike actually was dead and I wasn't piking out.

...apart from the beach start
That was the start of the crap day. Infact that started the night before on arrival at the beach but thats all done and dusted now. I should focus on the bike, Eleanor needs a little repair work

so minus our L-plater we headed Track-wards.

What L plater did you all lose along the way?

Fair enough - any progress with the electrics? That must be driving you mad.

Maria - she was a bit tired and felt that the initial quiet loop was enough for her - she's still getting her "sea legs".

Being on leave this week I've set one day aside to do the bike thing. That day is tomorrow. If anyone is interested I'll be leaving 10am (I'm allowed to lay in) from Gull on Tremain Av. It's more than likely going to be nippy so rapping up warm is a good thing. As usual I have no idea where I'm going but that is half the fun-"decide as you ride".

Had a goody today.

10am at Gull. Waited a bit no one else appears to want to come. Oh well nevermind. Wasn't too keen on going solo today so popped around to Douges to see if he wants to let his Pantah off it's leash. "Oh alright, but a coffee first" he says. Me "If you insist". After a chat, coffee and some home made cookies we popped up to the Caltex servo to top his 500 up. Goody we're set.

Brrrrr ratttle rattle brmmm goes the GB. Chugger chugger chug goes the Pantah. Over hill (the sadddle rd) and down dale (oxford, pinfold( a few others I can't remember), topgrass, maharahara, graham) we went. Lunch at dannivagas then out towards the coast we twaddled. No hurry far to nice a day to get home too early ah?

Hung a sharp left heading towards Pongaroa via Te Uri. Toodled down the lane a bit and stopped at the intersection where the Hyabusa cooked its battery a year or so back. Leg stretch and natter to decide the next way to go. Looked at the sign post which said Pongaroa thataway, Ormondville tather. "Never been that way before we says as one". "Oh alright" says Gerble and Pantah. So it tis younominus, thats the way we still go then- Te Uri here we come-clatter clatter rumble rumble. brmmm brmmm. Lovely peice of road. Of the 30 odd kms (sign said 43kms to the big P) round 24 of it was unsealed-hard packed for most of it with 10kms(sign posted no less) narrowing down to a single lane. Absolutely stunning vistas. Stopped a few times for a stretch and a walk as clip-ons aren't the most comfortable of bars in this sort of terrain. Sorry to see it end really when we got back on the seal.

squeak squeak (lubed the chains) rumble mutter mutter brmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm wisshhhhhhhhhhh

Headed back towards Waipuk, cut across Middleton rd then onto Farm Rd.
Bought Lance, James and John accross this the other way when we picked up CuBiX. Primo!! Cut across to the road leading out to the coast from Waipawa. Back around to Waipuk to refuel. Douge was feelling the strain:sweatdrop on his wrist so we decided to head home. We ended up going back via Takapau, Ormondville. Dannivagas, Origingi, Hoplands and the Gorge(which we got a straight run though). :chase: Stopping a few times so Douge could give his wrists a rest. Oh the joys of getting old.:oi-grr:

The highlight was definately that unsealed stretch and I plan on doing it again some time soon. Got home too late for the 6pm ride but ended up going to Murry's. A good turn out with some good ideas thrown about. Off to bed now.:zzzz: Gotta have my beuty sleep ya know...................

Then had daughters birthday pressie to organise, can get vouchers for defensive driving, driving lessons but not for sitting full test,so she had to be there with proof of address and restricted licence.Sorted that part with her meeting us there, then after doing eyesight test they found her restricted licence didn't have glass endorsement on it so they took her licence and gave her a paper temporary one,she now has to take her passport to get into pubs tonight as she is 19 today, and only photo ID she has is uni student ID but that has no birth date, she liked the idea of me paying for her,but pissed they took her only form of photo ID hehe.

Ended up somehow being ME that led the ride. I behaved. Everyone kept up and no one got lost.

we went to Foxton Beach via Linton/Opiki/Pioneer/Himatangi. We arrived one minute before the sun set so it ended up pretty much perfect timing.

A big thank you to Sarah for convincing Maria to ditch study for the night for the most important exam of her life so far. Sarah also let me ride her Daytona and she got pillioned on another bike. We rode to the beach, then she rode Maria's Isabella back to cafe Cuba while I doubled Maria on the Daytona. I have to say the 955i was a blast, not too fast, perfectly stable, easily ridden slow or biffed into corners like a Rossi wannabe and it never put a wheel wrong, whether with just me or 2up. Was very impressed and would consider one as a 2up carrier if and when I get a second bike.

After having someone point out the obvious... if its dark and your on a backroad that goes pretty straight, and on the horizon is a big glow... when lost head toward the big glow... it'll be Palmy.- we made it back to palmy where I had to fill up after Maria insisting I go fast and dodge imaginary objects. She really enjoyed it! We had a low fuel light for over 35km though and I had visions of me sitting with the bike while Maria bailed out for another ride and they all went and got warm and had coffee...

Made it to cafe cuba and had a chuckle at Maria trying to work out how to dismount the rear seat... its so High! Also swapped notes on the evening and found out that Maria talking to me as we ride causes me to slow right down... unexpectedly... to about 70kmh while we chat away, forgetting everyone else following us!

4 bikes in attendance tonight, the Horse's Hog with Sarah in the gunners seat, Maria's CBF250, Timaa's Hornet 900 with a mate, Jono, on the back in borrowed sweaty tight shift leathers [for sale after a wash and a crotch stitching repair] and Sarahs Daytona with a monkey swinging off the bars... me.

not aaron, jono... but yea. not too sweaty it turns out. just frozen. good ride if a little slow and jono liked the 180+ down wylie road. apparently me leaning on the tank nearly blew him off the back so i tried to stay upright, very hardd to do at high speed with no fairings...

slydesigns
2nd April 2009, 06:42
woops, I was concious of that with Maria on the back so I stayed upright for that section...lol And the 955i carved pretty good through the air with zero buffetting of either of us at reasonable pace. The 675 would have punished us severely for not being tuched down!

Didnt realise that was our speed...opps! Maria mentioned she was watching the Digispeedo over my shoulder and enjoyed it, :spanking:

And for those that know me... if I seem a little touchey feelie lately, my dads real sick and its given me a brake check on things... so... yeah

Wind buffeting never been a problem on it, only need to hunch down when you are wanting to squeeze every last km/hr out of it to be fair. Likewise I decided to take the long route from town the other afternoon just before the sun set, over the saddle and back through the gorge and got to enjoy the K valley racetrack just in time  It was a mint autumn run and I felt guilty not dragging others along

The Cafe Cuba, fielding, colyton, ashurst via the ditches and home on Tuesday was a little more challenging at 9pm in the rain but good practice for the grand challenge I am told. (why did I decide to do that? mad I know)

Last night the trip into town was interesting as the K valley road was damp and a little slidy

:offtopic: The reason for going was cake (of course) and the Pink Floyd Experience. What a bloody great time was had by all. We were dancing in our seats and in the aisles and one mad joker hopped on stage briefly.

Didn't get out until 11:10, any who didn't go missed a good bash. Lead guitarist was really on form. Old stuff first half peppered with a few well known and then a feast of the Wall and DSOTM after the break.

I was on such a high when I got out and it was cold but dry with a bright moon so had to watch the throttle hand to keep out of trouble

In summary - The Pink Floyd Experience are great and I like riding anytime so dark or rain do not mean no rides. The evening rides idea stemmed from when I was learning on SK1PY and we used to go out every night and end up at a cafe, seemed a shame not to share. Happy to ride with those who aren't fire-hugging slippers in winter people (well not til after the ride anyway)

Was an awesome afternoon and after a weekend of local socialising with duckies from the east and south the beast and I were ready for a run:ride:
Had a meeting in town so caught up with Horse and chocolate cake at Cuba and decided to indulge his fetish for steel horses and chasing the tracks.

Out via fielding to Halcombe and back through Colyton and Ashurst. What a fab ride, apart from a few road works on the Colyton to Ashurst stretch the roads were in great conditions and traffic at a minimum.

A mild nite for sure  only turned on the heated grips for the last blast from Ashurst, bit of wind chill as the beast needed a run  and the throttle needed some exertion

Banana cake n custard infront of the fire to round off a perfect midweek winter meander.

Inspired to go and begin packing for the weekend :soon:three days of good roads :ride: two nights away and soaking the riding muscles in the hot pools is a perfect way to celebrate HRH's b'day.

If I am really good:innocent: I may get to revisit being a teenager and try out the GPZ9 tooo :sunny:

To be fair I was only thinking on the way to work, I maybe like watching the 675 more than I like riding it:laugh: Especially when it is 'not' going on one wheel for ages infront of me. Oh and sorry about the gravel and turning into a nana on that bit

The beast is just such a dream  I am totally ruined for anything else at the moment. I enjoy it more the more I ride it, never boring :sunny:

I know before you all say it I am a sad woman because I love my bike. Guess what ? I don't care

HA! you know how I discovered that gravel? I pulled a wheelie up the hill behind you and the rear slide while it was up! Interesting feeling and seemed controllable but it took me a second to work out what had caused it when the front finally came back down as the HID's are TOO bright and didn't contrast the gravel too well.

Well spring has sprung and at the first dry opportunity :sunny: I dashed out for a ride. We have been trying to plan something for days but the Fazer has been hiding from the rain

Started at Cafe Cuba as a spur of the moment decision and headed out to Ashurst and Pohongina Valley. A gravel excursion for repast. to pat a few ponies and to challenge my abilities again.

Next the beast encountered an old garage companion which was a little wierd but good to see it back on Manawatu roads. We soon parted company and I had a great ride over the saddle, along Ballance and back over the track to finish at BP Fitzherbert :ride:

The fuel light came on along Ballance so I know for the GC that the beast does 20K at least.

Since the track days I can keep up with the CD crew now (providing I don't get 3 punctures and get left in Dannevirke ) so most wednesday whizzes will be with them. As for the rest of the week. I will be riding most nights so post here before 5 if you wanna go for a blast.

Happy to take whatever pace suits the majority. I get plenty of thrills on the way to work and back and just enjoy getting out and about on the Beautiful Blue Beast  as much as possible. Especially as it had a tweak at the last service and is even more responsive.

Have a few big trips coming up so want to get plenty of riding k's under the belt so I am fit enough (and the new leathers continue to fit )

See you out there :ride:
