Currently there is a thread that tells of job "DIS"satisfaction. How many out there ...like their job. And like the view from their office.
Post said view of your office, give us a look at what you see each day.
This is a view I see on a regular basis... but the view often changes. Sometimes the view is better...

I look out over a cemetary and the motorway on one side...it's actually quite entertaining - you'd be surprised how many muppets there are out there who decide that backing down the Terrace Tunnel motorway on ramp to get back to the The Terrace Road offramp is a good idea...seen this three times now  no accidents yet...lucky buggers!
On the other side I look out over the beehive - that's a crap view but as on the top floor can see all the way to Petone foreshore - very nice view on a good day...ferries and weather rolling in.
Then directly in front of me I have the Boulcott hotel. This is a crack up - people either don't realise that we can see them in the nudie OR they like it :blip: Seen some sexy type action on atleast 4 occasions now...not in a while though I think the reception must warn them now

Yeah, a little hard to understand if you dont know i guess  That is a rolling mill, we make reinforcing steel and wire rod.
Billets (~1.4T of steel) come in from the left hand end out of the furnace at up to 1200 °C and get squashed between the rolls, gets smaller and smaller, then squash on the deformations etc for re-bar.
That is what happens when the steel doesnt go where you want it to, that big glowing line is the nose of the billet stubbing, and the rest just keeps on coming, so it curls and and goes everywhere. At that point in the mill it is moving slow, and there's nothing much you can do about it. Just let it all come through, and pick up a gas axe.
The second one is where it has ripped the delivery tackle clean off and picked it up in the air (the dark chunk on the glowing thing :p). That piece of tackle needs a crane to put in place, and is held down by 4x M30 capscrews that sheared clean off, so you get an idea of the raw power involved.
When that happens further down the mill where the bar is moving faster (like 30 m/s) you dont wanna be standing around...

I work from home and don't have a bad view at all. When working on the desktop in the study, the view is of our front paddock and the neighbour's trees across the road.
When working on the laptop in the lounge, the view is a little more dramatic, and the view from the side deck isn't too shabby either.
And just to show we have great sunsets too - and a bird's eye view of the balloon festival too!

This can be a problem. I know a guy who used to work in an office block over the road from a bike shop and he used to spend all day watching bikes come and go. Eventually had to turn his desk around to face away from the window so he could get some work done!
The good thing is, when my bike got broken I took it to that bike shop for repairs. Every day they would wheel it out of the workshop and leave it sitting on the road outside, rain or shine. My friend kept an eye on it and let me know what was happening.

I changed office's today. Actually, spent a couple of days in this office, its a place called Corridale. The farmers among us will know the name as the breed of Corridale sheep were bred here. Now a Dairy farm, and irrigation is in demand. Hence the need for these beastys. I help assemble them. Just a big mecanno set...
For those that are geographically embarrased as to the location, it is about 30 km's inland from Oamaru. The KB encounter went past here on the return part of the day ride from Moraki.

Well spotted!
Shame I couldn't get the camera out in time to capture the view out the study window on Tuesday. Heard a roar and looked out to see what on earth was coming up the road but it was actually a Hercules flying REALLY low - it loomed up over the pine trees across the road and appeared to be aiming right for our house! Managed to get two shots as it went away out to the south, but the sight of its props and nose just clearing the trees about 100m from the window was incredible.
Last time they did low-level manoeuvres in our area they came back every 15 minutes or so and I got heaps of photos, but this appeared to be a one-off.

Electric or diesel powered hydraulic,To hydraulic wheels, each span has a cable actioned brake to the hydraulic wheels that come on when the spans get out of line. Simple... but things can... DO go wrong...
