That is, we have our Shoeis here (wife's is almost new), and I was wondering if it is legal to ride it in NZ (I know american helmets can't be used here in Europe).

Also, is it legal to ride with a shaded shield?

Yes and yes! NZ new Shoei helmets are Euro spec, and tinted visors are legal

While in theory the police here can stop and check that your helmet complies with the relevant NZ safety requirements, in practice it never happens.
Australia is different - it HAS to have the proper ADR or whatever marking, and if you try to take a non-compliant helmet into the country it may be seized at customs.

Same here, but you never know about other countries.

Anyhow, here shaded shields are forbidden on open roads; no officer will stop you for that, but if you have an accident you will be made responsible because supposedly you can not see well.
