Hi All,
I’ve got a little Chinese made moped that I just use for local trips and the 3km ride to the ferry and back for work. The only reason I bought it was that it was stolen recovered so very cheap, a little tatty but cheap, $250 for a bike that was new in May last year. It came with a skid lid but I reckon a bowl of fruit would have given better protection so I got a new one (not a new bowl of fruit, a lid), FFM. It’s the best I could afford and a few people on here seem to think they are Ok. It cost me almost as much as the bike.
The only things that I like about the moped is that it has two wheels and it has opened the door for me to get a “real” bike (the missus was totally against it before).
Now, I can’t get a bike until two things happen....
#1 is obviously get my learners, I live over on the North Shore so will be getting in touch with Qkchk to get my learners, she seems to be good by the comments I’ve read.
#2. Turn the grand old age of 40 in September, according to said mentioned missus I would have grown up by then. :bleh:
I’m thinking of selling the moped now instead of waiting till I’ve hit the magic 40. I could use the dollars to fund my licence (the missus didn’t say I had to wait till September to work towards getting a bike :msn-wink:) but would lose out on being on two wheels for a while. Anyone think this is a good idea?

I think you should go for it! Take it nice and easy, until you feel comfortable riding ;)
Im glad i started riding, and im pretty sure most people on here feel the same way!
You can sit your motorbike bike handling skills test on a scooter, thats one thing you could do before you sell it?

May as well use their bike, bit of practice shifting thru the gears etc, with someone to watch ya.
Might cost you a bit more but I reckon you'll be glad when you go to test ride bikes or pick one up and go, now how the fook am I going to get this home?

Cheers want-a-harley,
I reckon that you are right, get the basics otherwise I could end up looking like a proper tit when I go to buy a bike.. not to say probably a danger to myself and everyone around me.

Been thinking about this more and more.... Going to do it, I enjoy riding around on the hairdryer so I reckon I'm going to have me some fun on a bike. Cheers.

Hi All,

 The missus is clueless but you must try to use the situation in your favor. Ride your learners bike with no mishaps for a year or so and the missus might agree to let you get a supersport!

Sure will. I'm going to get my gear before I get a bike, that way I won't be tempted to ride without it. :soon:

Hey GOONR (R U an Arsenal fan?),
Getting approval from our ladies is always important.
A Happy Wife = A Happy Life.
Get her to ride Pillion to see if she enjoys the thrill. My wife loves it and I was buying a bike to suit us both. As she then got in the family way (cellebrating our decsioin to buy a bike), I then (selfishly) choose the bike I wanted. All she said was, so long as it has ABS and I can choose the colour! Lucklily she didn't choose pink.
Go for it and good luck.

Get her to ride Pillion to see if she enjoys the thrill. Not a bloody chance due, she won't go anywhere near a bike..

Hey fellow Gooner, I was born and grew up in Highbury. The season is about to take a huge turn for the better :-)
You need to take one step at a time with your missus. It sounds like you have done really well getting her to this stage. You might want to consider an emotionally equal reward for her so as not to over tip the perceived balance. I got away with buying my missus no more than a rabbit with cage and all the trimmings :-)
Just don't report any two wheel related mishaps back to her.
Women = Strange creatures. They change their minds quickly and without notice (like the weather).
Good luck.

I've always said no but now.... It's my bargaining chip.:woohoo:
