ok - anyone out there get into this stuff?

I enjoy both and really don't find enough time to indulge... of course if there are others wanting to come shooting or fishing that'd be a different story...

(God, doesn't that sounds like a desparate "want" ad)?!?

Eh wot? Wot wot? Missed this thread first time around.

*I* like shooting, haven't been out in a while now. Same reason I don't go riding on the weekends much, I owe the missus most of my spare time until the kids get out of the toddler stage.

Might be up for an excursion some time. I think my DOC hunting licence for the Waikato just expired, have to call them and get it renewed.

Are you on the Woodhill deer ballot for this season?

Sounds like a plan to me... I also happen to have some contacts on some LARGE stations in the central North Island...

Meantime, I got a new .22 just itching to find some bunnies or (even better) possums.

I'm not on the ballot, nothing bigger than the .22 in the house at the mo so no point, but I'm sure something could be arranged.

Can't beat a good bunny hunt. Large stations in the central NI, eh? Tempting.

Absolutely no idea if and when I could take the time to do it, though. I'm not your best bet for a reliable companion.

If you have some good places to go, SpankMe might be up for it, too.

We're in the same boat on that one - little ones at home so not too easy to just pop out. I used to go shooting down Pukekohe way (I did a massive mail drop to all the famers, and one guy took me up on it - was brilliant).

If you ever get the urge PM me, likewise the other way round. I've got all the kit (spotlights, rfile, licence) and I'm keen to chase some of that wild venison at some point. I was going to try out the Easter Bunny Shoot in Alexandra (25 March) but it's a long way to go to shoot them, and doing a 24 hour shoot takes some of the relaxed pace/cruisin out of it.

I'll keep you and SpankMe in mind - ta

Always up for a bunny shoot. The rifles in the gun cabinet (http://spankme.dynu.com/spankgun.htm) have been gathering way too much dust lately.

The place I usually go to has been over run by the ever expanding Auckland suburbs.

I will be in for a shoot - don't get out much these days.
In Easter in the past, a bunch of us used to go to the Kaiangaroa forest. You get the permits from Fletcher Forsets - acces depedns on the fire risk and work. Lots of bunnys, some magpies and a very few, very shy deer. They 1080 the hell out of the place, which knocks the deer down.

Off to Stewart Island in a week for 10 days hunting, fishing and some general rest & relaxation.

Good bunch of guys, good hut, good food and good booze, can't beat that combo for 'chilling out' eh? :niceone: :2thumbsup

Oh, and I forgot to add the usual: "I wonder what the poor people will be doing" heh, heh, heh!!

Muhahaha,

I have some semi-exclusive shooting rights at a secret location up North. I'd share the wealth, but the last few times there was barely enough (if anything at all) for me. Damn cyanide poison wiped out virtually the entire possum population - about 4 dead bastards per bait station. Still see the occasional rabit.

I got 4 possums just the other night, ah felt good for the soul-come on guys, be good kiwis, kill more possums!

Been chasing salmon all last weekend. Bastards swim faster that I can cast.

Go after the searun too when they are about. Used to shoot.............too noisy so stopped.

I have a family property at Tokoroa that's crawling with rabbits, quite a few Goats, some real big buggers to,an pigs passing through when we have a crop in.Oh yeah the place backs onto lake Arapuni so a spot of trout fishing happens now an then.I also get up the Waipakahi river and Clements rd after Sika a couple of times each year.
Plus a trip up the Okahu valley in Te Urewera at lest once a year for an easy Red.The last year I've been a bit slack because we're trying to save money but I'm still keen on a walk if anybody wants to get out sometime.
Just drop me a PM.
Cheers.

I like both but have never had much of an opportunity to do either.

I've been out bunny shooting a few times with my sister and some other friends but that was aaaaaaaaaaaaaaages ago.

I have a good friend who does a lot of deer & pig hunting, with dogs, and I'd love to go out with him sometime - although I do suspect that when it come down to it I couldn't stick a pig.

Fishing - love it too but, again don't know enough about it. I have a rod gathering dust.

I really needed a big brother or a Dad growing up.

Feel free to pop around to my place any time and ping a few possums. I quite often wander down the road and get a few, which is a pretty stress-free "hunting exercise".

We've also got a lot of goats and a few pigs around our area so that's always a bit of fun. Hardly ever get the chance to go fishing but wish I did. Got some cod and terakihi off Turakirae Head the other day though - very, very nice trip! :niceone:

Nice to see a few people on this site (of both genders too!) that are not of the "bleeding heart Bambi-hugger anti-gun type"

Good on you all, :niceone:

I don't knock anybody that has no interest in hunting & fishing but I've a negative tolerance for anybody that tries to tell me why I shouldn't go hunting/fishing/have guns/eat meat etc :angry2: . (rant over).

I have to admit I enjoy making people think... They're anti guns/hunting/killing - so I just calmly tell them to stop eating meat then and let them work the rest out for themselves...

It ain't no big mystery where meat comes from... the method of death may differ slightly (stunning and killing on the line at the works vs a single clean shot in the bush) but I prefer the taste of wild Venison and beef anyway...

BTW I suppose Cordura etc was put on earth for those that didn't like the idea of naked cows walking around feeling the cold eh?

Needed a place to post this, and it's gun-related. Or perhaps not....
